Unitarian Universalists have a high respect for Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism, as well as many other theologies and philosophies. They seek to find the truth and beauty within each of them. Unitarian Universalists practice and promote tolerance, making intolerance and propaganda against other theologies highly disconcerting for them.

A video has recently been circulating around the web about Islam. The beginning of the video appears to give a positive message about it. Unfortunately though, the tone changes drastically causing the viewer to experience fear and anger toward Islam. The video is an inauspicious work of propaganda designed to create hatred toward the second largest and fastest growing religion in the world. After dissecting the video and breaking down each accusation within it, you’ll understand what is truth and what is fiction.

Due to the fact that the United States is 75% Christian, each argument of the video will be given a comparison to Christianity to help you better understand Islam and how it affects you. The sections regarding Christianity will be in Italics.

Please commence by watching the following video, entitled “Three Things About Islam” below. Then, continue reading Parts 1, 2 and 3 of this article. Each part coincides with the three parts of the video.

Part #1. It's true. The Qur'an is very different.

The Qur’an was created by one man, who, according to Islam, was previously illiterate. Yet after 3 days in a cave, came back speaking the word of God. According to Islam, he dictated the Qur’an to his companions after every revelation from God. On the other hand, the Bible was created by more than 40 men after the death of Jesus, over the span of about 1,500 years. Some Bibles have 24 chapters and others up to 89; though the most commonly used Bible has 66 chapters. The Qur’an, on the other hand, has gone unchanged since shortly after Mohammed’s death, when the revelations were compiled into one book.

The video makes accusations about the contradictions within the Qur’an. Just as the video claimed, it's true that the older verses of the Qur'an should be replaced by newer ones that contradict. Thus, showing that there are no real contradictions.

Contrary to what the video claimed, the "contradictory" verses within the Quran were not peaceful/positive verses later replaced by more violent ones. You can see a list of the Qur’an’s contradictory verses here. As you can see, there are only about 31 contradictions within the Qur’an.

On the other hand, the Bible has a total of 456 contradictions, which you can see here. It’s not a surprise when you consider that the verses in the Bible were subjected to 1,500 years of scrutiny and editing by courts full of religious and political officials arguing about what should and shouldn’t be in the Bible.

In conclusion, it is very true that the Qur’an is very different. However, is different a bad thing? Decide that for yourself as we delve in deeper to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Bible in Part 2 of this response to the video, “Three Things About Islam.”

Continue to Part 2: A cross-examination of Sharia Laws and the verses of the Bible

There is so much hate in the world, so much that is beyond our understanding. In our fight for good over bad our best weapon is love. NO crime has been ever committed in the name of LOVe because true love knows no hate. Jesus was murdered and crucified for religious purposes. Christians might have enough reasons to hate Jewish and Romans for what they did to him. The same as Jewish have so much hate against Hitler. But non of those murders were made in the name of love. Any one who commits a crime in the name of their religious believes is only doing it based on this believes. And those beliefs are altered by men, they are interpretations made by men, Men has gone as far as sacrificing their own flesh for God, all that is an interpretation that men has of God's desires. Who are we to think that we can stop this by just saying how unfair it is? Our only weapon is Love, be love, do good and be an example of what we believe is true. Not forcing any one to follow our beliefs but rather show another way of living that is commanded by love, the opposite of hate. HAte is nothing but lack of love and it comes from Ego. Love comes from our spiritual being, our soul that is perfect because it comes form the whole, from God. For centuries humanity has suffered for murders committed in the name of religion, that does not make it in the name of God. true spirituality transcends religion, it is the understanding that we are part of the source which is love. And perhaps it will take many more years for humanity to move the wight on the scale towards love. One action at the time, one word at the time and more importantly by ding what all the masters tell us, love each other the way God loves you. Why did Jesus turned the other chick? because love does not attack, does not react. Love looks at ignorance with love as what it is acts of ignorance, lack of love.

  • Very well said. Thank you for your thoughts. I completely agree!! :)
