Today's small business topic: computer programs that may be helpful in bringing you from unemployed to entrepreneur!
(There’s a lot to talk about in October. It’s Work and Family Month, Women’s Small Business Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All of these topics can have significance to those looking for jobs, so I’ll be posting three articles a week in October: one for each of these three topics a week! Stay tuned for useful information, resources and helpful organizations.)
If you’ve become unemployed and the thought of working in an office again, answering to a boss and abiding by their rules seems like the last thing you want to go back to, you may have considered starting a business of your own. Beware that while this sounds like the escapist idea of a lifetime, there are many things to consider:
Make sure you know your audience.
Make sure you have a clear business plan.
Thoroughly research the startup money you will (or may) need.
Use what you can from home (office, computer, phone, etc.) and get whatever you can for the best prices… Including relevant computer software.
Now more than ever, starting a business or working for one, computers are vital for the functionality of most businesses. I recently read an article (below) that highlights the steps of starting a business with computer software that may be necessary or useful to you in your newest venture. Some are free, some aren’t, but the great thing about this article was that it was geared for people who are unemployed, taking into consideration possible downfalls and monetary concerns. Check out sample business plans, low-cost online training, billing programs, tracking software and more.
This can be a fantastic opportunity for you and your family while you’re looking to make ends meet, but you don’t want to jump in head first without a safety line. Read the article thoroughly. Do your research. And good luck! You are on your way through an exciting journey!
