Saving money is always helpful, especially during the holiday season, and now those hit with unemployment can receive 20% off of over 1,500 grocery and drugstore items at Kmart for 6 months. In an effort to help both their own name brand and help out unemployed customers, the store has launched their Smart Assist program.
Originally extended only to customers in Michigan—one of the hardest-hit states during this recession and where the company’s headquarters are based—Kmart officials have decided to extend this worthwhile program to all unemployed customers nationwide.
Customers who sign up using state-assigned proof of unemployment* will receive a savings card that will deduct 20% off of select items from private Kmart brands including Vitasmart, American Fare, Biostyle, Little Ones and more.
According to Kmart’s press release, even if the unemployed person in question gains employment within the 6 months of the card’s valid time period, they may continue using the card for the duration of its life.
- Cards issued in November will be valid until 05/31/10.
- Cards issued in December will be valid until 06/30/10.
- Cards issued in January will be valid until 07/31/10.
--Customer must show card at time of purchase.
--Not eligible for sale and clearance items.
