We didn't spend enough money to create jobs

We didn't spend enough money to create jobs. That was the comment left about an article I wrote a couple of months ago. I had written about how unsuccessful President Obama's Stimulus program had been to create jobs. According to the Daily Policy Digest The United States is spending massive amounts of money, here are the deficit amounts:

  • $450 billion in 2008
  • $1.4 Trillion in 2009
  • 1.5 Trillion in 2010
  • 1.4 Trillion in 2011.

Unemployment is almost 10% and the real unemployment rate is about 17%. How much more do we need to spend?

I have also talked about how the massive spending by President Roosevelt during the derpression kept unemployment the highest ever recorded in the United States.  I also wrote about how President Regan cut taxes and the economy created 20 million jobs.

Wisconsin has one of the worst business climates (#42 of 50) according to Forbes. We also have some of the highest income and property taxes in the United States. We are also running up one of the biggest state deficits.  Milwaukee is fourth highest in poverty and leads in drop out rates, yet we spend more per child than most school districts.

Notice a pattern, high taxes kill jobs, cutting taxes create jobs.

I have another example. All we have to do is look North to Canada. While we were spending Canada was cutting spending. Canada was once a big spender too. Their budget in the 90's climbed to 53 percent of GDP. Spending has been cut to 10 percent of GDP.

Canada's economy began to grow once spending was cut. They did pass a stimulus during the recession, but are already cutting spending and their economy is growing.  Germany also has refused to accelerate spending. They openly disagreed with President Obama about spending their way out of recession. Germany now has the strongest economy in Europe. Big spenders like Spain and Greece are still in trouble.

Recent and past history shows big spending is followed by big taxes and the death of jobs.  When President Obama was in Milwaukee over Labor day he proposed $50 billion for infrastructure.  He keeps proposing more money to secure votes. None of this spending has turned around the economy.

Next Tuesday is a referendum. It is a chance to vote with Obama for more spending or with Conservatives for smaller government and an improved economy that will create jobs.

Next Tuesday is also a referendun about the business climate we want to create for our state.  Do we want the current high tax, high regulation climate that is pushing companies out of our state?  If you want continue to be one of the worst states for business climates than vote for Tom Barrett and the Democrates. If you want a state with smaller government, lower taxes and less regulations then vote for Scott Walker and the conservatives.  Even the uber liberal Milwaukee Journal reconizes that Scott Walker is the person Wisconsin needs to bring much needed change.
