Robert Zubrin -- the Robert Zubrin of today -- is the President of the Mars Society, and holds a PhD. in nuclear engineering from the University of Washington. The Robert Zubrin who wrote the book How to Live on Mars: A Trusty Guidebook to Surviving and Thriving on the Red Planet, was born in New Plymouth, Mars in 2071. The Zubrin of the future has channeled the book through the Robert Zubrin of today (no relation).
We spoke to the future Zubrin through his Earthly medium for the Boulder Weekly. But the martian author has also agreed to give a few tips exclusive to Underground readers wanting a change of zip code.
UG: Any tips for dating in a pressure suit?
RZ: It creates a sense of anticipation that heightens what happens after you get out of the suit. It's like a battery kept at high voltage that is suddenly released. Furthermore, since we don't have to deal with the Earth's hypergravity, bedtime sports are much more fun too.
UG: I'm a winter. What fashion advice can you give me for the Red Planet?
RZ: Choose Mars-tones for your spacesuit color. If you choose classic NASA white, the dust will make it look like crap in no time.
Here are a few of Zubrin's pickup lines:
- Cold today, isn't it?
- Need a hab for the night?
- Are you really as beautiful as I imagine you are under that suit?
- Want to see my rock collection?
- Wait a second. I think there's something on your faceplate.
As for the Earhly Zubrin, here are a few things you might not know: Zubrin was featured in the CBS special The Mars Underground, is a minor character in a Gregory Benford's The Martian Race, and was paid homage by legendary Pixies songwriter Frank Black in the Dog in the Sand album.
