Solange Magnano, the former Miss Argentina, has died of the after effects of a gluteoplasty.
A gluteoplasty is an attempt to achieve the callipygian form: that is an operation to create perfectly formed buttocks. And as Solange Magnano just found out, a gluteoplasty can also be very dangerous, for she's just died from such an operation going wrong.
She suffered from a pulmonary embolism (not, as some are reporting it, an amniotic fluid embolism: she wasn't pregnant) as a result of the operation. The gluteoplasty is pretty much like having a boob job: silicone or saline implants are placed inside the body but in this case it's the curves of the butt which are enhanced, not what is normally placed in a bra. Other than that it really is very similar indeed and carries the same risks as most surgeries. People die on operating tables all the time and embolisms are one of those things that do happen:

Solange Magnano, 38, died of a pulmonary embolism after undergoing a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires, a normally routine procedure which involves placing implants in the buttocks to give them a firmer outline.
The mother of eight-year-old twins, who won the beauty crown in 1994, died on Sunday after three days in a critical condition. Roberto Piazza, a close friend, claimed that the procedure also involved injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain".
