The Times thinks that Carrie Prejean is the new American conservative hero.
In what is a remakably unkind piece about American conservatives (but one which is possibly too kind to Carrie Prejean) Ms. Prejean is put forward as the latest conservative hero in the country. The unkindness comes from the implication that conservatives are too stupid to see the positioning: the kindness perhaps from the implication that Ms. Prejean is clever enough to do it.
They go through the whole story: the beauty pageant, the breast augmentation, the "solo sex tape", the Perez Hilton incident. And then they add two further pieces of newer information:
In the end both sides backed down and settled. But it was the detail of this agreement that prompted Ms Prejean’s latest implosion, this time on Larry King’s show. Asked to explain why she dropped her claim she repeatedly insisted that the question was “inappropriate”. When King pushed harder Ms Prejean attempted to storm out — but couldn’t work out how to disconnect her microphone. Instead, she sat at the interview desk without her earpiece, mouthing questions to an off-set handler as a baffled King tried to continue the interview.
That plus the fact that her new book, "Still Standing" isn't selling well, languishing below 500 on the Amazon listings.
There's also a certain snideness to the piece: several references to how she is not only a conservative hero, but how she seems to be positioning herself as a younger version of Sarah Palin.
Truth to be told, she does seem to have comparable media skills as the following Larry King video shows.
The question is, if you cannot undo your own microphone does this make you too dumb even for politics?

I'm mystified. Other than what she SAYS, this woman BEHAVES in a way that would violate every principle of what conservative Christians are saide to believe. How did she become a hero to anyone? She seems like a particularly ungracious, deceitful, promiscuous person with a nose for publicity and no obvious talent.
Perez Hilton catapaulted her to fame with a question that is trully inappropriate for a beauty contest and made her into a martyr as did the liberal press. The fact that she is just another vacuous beauty contestant escaped everyone. Also whatever else she may be there is nothing to show she is promiscuous, she mat well have had fewer sexual partners than Meg.

Thank you very much for pointing this out very insightful. It seems that there are some Christians out there that as long as you sh to the mountain tops that you believe in God there is no wrong you can do. Apparently by believing in Jesus and asking for forgiveness one is allowed to be a total douchebag in this life.
