An eastern Washington family claims they have been seeing UFOs in the skies over their town, with unusual helicopter traffic, then a "grey shape" running through their backyard, according to witness testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
The reporting witness first describes unusual air traffic in a town where they "never have flight traffic." The helicopters seem like they are searching for something.
During the time the helicopters are in the air, the witness claims hearing an odd sound - described as a "very low decible hum, which made a kind of whum, whum, sound (higher to lower range and back again)."
The family witnessed pulsing lights in the sky, a stench in the air, and a bright object in the sky that moved 25 miles toward them in seconds, stopping just three blocks from their location and hovering just 200 feet off of the ground.
The object was "shaped like an orb with spikes coming out and seemed to have a compainion light under it to one side." The family watched the light for about two hours from inside their home. Then at 3 a.m., their daughter looked out a kitchen window and some a grey shape, "about 4ft tall, grey colored from top to bottom, in an approximate human form moving rapidly across the yard from south to north."
Following is the unedited witness report from MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on this case, I will update this page.
WA, September 12, 2009 - Bright Light moved rapidly from the N-NE, hovered at edge of town 8hrs. Grey sighted at appox 3am "moving rapidly through yard". MUFON Case # 19306.
I live in a small town in Eastern Washington. We NEVER have flight traffic over town with the exception of crop dusters and "Heart Flight".
On or about July 15,2009, at 2:30am I was awakened from sleep by the sound of helicopters. I use a CPAP breathing machine which generates a fair amount of internal noise (ie: I can hear it's pumping inside my head, but exterially, it's almost silent), so the noise was loud enough to wake me up. I live in a two story house with a sleeping porch off my bedroom. The sleeping porch has large windows across the front of the house.
I went to the windows and I saw a Black Hawk helicopter flying due N-NW at minimum height. There were the lights of other copters already ahead of the one I heard.
As I watched, in about 2 minutes another came over in the same straight direction. I counted out 2 minutes and another and then another came over the town. I got the impression they were pursing something. I watched as they began an intense search at about 10-15 miles north of town. The copters set up a perimiter, with one at each corner of a grid, and the others (there appeared to be 6 to 8 total), began moving east to west and west to east.
The entire time I watched, there was a sound in the air of a very low decible hum, which made a kind of whum, whum, sound (higher to lower range and back again). I watched for about 1 and 1/2 hours. Since I had to get up for work, I finally packed it in.
Two days later my daughter witnessed several strange events. She was driving home from a movie at about 11:30 pm on the 17the when she witnessed a black helicopter (it was silhouted against the sky and clearly black) flying out of the direction of our town. When she reached home, she got out of the car and heard the whum whum noice and noticed a strage glow in the North North-East emitting pulses almost like heat lightening, but it had a 1-2-3 rythm.
The same rythm over and over...low glow, medium glow, high glow. There were no clouds in the sky, only the strange glow. The pulsing and hum went on all night. About 4 days after that, my daughter was out walking. It was a calm day, no wind, no storms etc. Then suddenly she heard the hum again and was hit by a sudden blast of air that rushed past her.
About 15 days ago my daughter again noticed the pulsing lights. She went out onto the porch to sit and watch ias it was only a few miles out of town in the north. Suddenly a helicopter emerged from the glow and skirted the edge of town. A few minutes later she started to gag stumbled into the house calling to me "mom can't you smell that?" She was overcome by an intense smell of something very pungent, very acrid, and metalic.
We ran around the house and closed all the windows and doors. I got her a painter's face mask and that helped keep out the smell for her. We were baffled by why she could smell it, and I could not. She would say.. oh it's gone and then get up and as she passed by a window, she would retch again. Two of our dogs could not smell it, but one got a terrible sneezing fit. She has always had an acute sense of smell, but what was she smelling? We know the smell of every farm chemical and this was nothing she had smelled before. I
I read where on July 24, 2009, a crop circle was discovered at Wibur, Washington. If you take a ruler and lay it on a Washington State map the line would be a straight going North-North West and in the EXACT line the copters flew over town and headed away the first night I saw them.
Then on the night of September 11, 2009, my daughtr and I went outside to star gaze. We saw a "star" headed across the sky from west to east in a straight line, about 15 degrees above the horizon. It got very much brighter, and accellerated up and away from it's position at a high rate of speed disappearing into the dark. I hate to say it, but it looked just like Star Trek when the ship jumps into hyperspace.
We then saw a "star moving directly overhead and zig-zagging from it's center position to the west,back to center, back to west, back to center. The degree of zig-zag was small, but very discernable. I then saw another "star" move, stop, turn in a circle, then disappear. My daughter then saw a small globe of light, perhaps 40ft off the ground streak past her. We went inside, scared but a little excited.
Then last night, September 12, 2009, at about 10:30pm, we went back outside and saw a bright object, much like an aiplane when seen head on in the sky near the mountains. (It was NOT an airplane..there were no running lights, no noise). We were watching it, when it suddenly moved at a very high rate of speed directly towards us, covering 25 miles in seconds.
We were terrified. It stopped at the edge of town, which is only 3 blocks away and hovered perhaps 200ft above the ground. It was very bright,very menacing, silent,shaped like an orb with spikes coming out and seemed to have a compainion light under it to one side.
We were very scared. We ran into the house and we peeked out of a window and it stayed positioned for about 2 hours. At one point I watched the light blink out, only to go back to the window later and see it was back. We turned on all the lights in the house, locked the doors and windows, brought in the cat and huddled in the living room afraid to sleep.
At about 3am my daughter went to the kitchen window over the sink. That side of the house is very dark with no outdoor light and a large tree in the yard. She turned off the lights, pulled back the curtain and screamed. She saw a grey shape, about 4ft tall, grey colored from top to bottom, in an approximate human form moving rapidly across the yard from south to north.
I cannot begin to tell you how frightened we are by what has occured. We are not hoaxing you, we are just regular people caught in an abnormal and frightening situation. I just read where a pilot from Oregon witnessed a bright silent light hover over his home. His "UFO" sounds like the same type as we witnessed.

That stench sounds familiar....a few nights ago just before 10 p.m. as I was leaving my daughters house to walk home to mine,we live a couple hundred feet apart on a 4 acre lot, I could smell a strange odor in the night atmosphere...I didn't recognize the smell at all, it had a metalic burnt wire kind of smell...I remember thinking 'wow' that's a funny smell...no one in the neighborhood was burning leaves at that hour,,,as most of my neighbors have to get up early for work...so they go to bed early...anyway, then a couple of nights later, again walking home around the same time , I noticed 4 flashing lights over the trees in the northeast section of sky... the lights were blinking in a rotation...they never went out just blinked across one after another fast...I saw that happen twice in a roll and was still walking...then I came to my senses and thought wow, so I backtracked to see if I could still see them, but no they weren't visible...I tried several different places with no luck...
Sounds amazing, I would love to be in your position....although I don't understand why, if you were watching for a couple of hours , you didn't think to get a camera or video camera or mobile phone to document this?
Did any of your neighbors see anything? Did you call the authorities?
Was the gray alien running? Can they run faster than humans?
Hello! I am the author of the article. I want to answer your questions. Andy, until you are in our situation, you cannot imagine the terror you feel. We felt hunted. That light moved towards us with a purpose and it was menacing, not curious. It was just me (a mom) and one of my daughters, and we have no weapons. We felt like prey and the predator was circling the house. The last thing we wanted to do was agitate it by snapping its picture. Plus that would have required exposing ourselves and we were very afraid just to peek out the curtain. When daylight came we sought out every explanation we could think of to discount what we saw. Was it the moon? (The path was 45 degrees in another direction. Was it a child running through the yard? Well for one thing, it didn’t run. It glided. It also didn’t appear to be wearing clothing, just a grey skin. Helen: I don’t want my neighbors to think I’m nuts, so no I haven’t asked around. Sandra: What is your general location? Close to us?

If there is a smell that means that your family and pets are breathing in particles of something; you should have yourselves tested for radiation exposure or other chemicals. You can purchase digital binoculars that can also take pictures quite cheaply; I got a pair at the drugstore for less than 10 bucks).
But for now draw what you saw so that you can keep a record for Mufon; have they visited you? Make sure each family member has cameras handy, digital and regular old film and then see what pics come out next time you have a visit. There were quite a few sightings listed on the Examiner website. Good luck with your UFO hunting!

Was the odor connected to the copter’s spraying for aliens, like one would spray for bugs in a kitchen? Or did it come from the UFO? It can’t be good whatever it is. I read where NASA said the universe has a strong metallic smell. Was the smell from a UFO punching up or down through the atmosphere? I just don’t know. I will tell you since the incident my daughter is having abduction flashbacks from the night after the incident. She and I both feel strongly that the UFO was after her, not me. Mufon is coming to investigate and it is a relief to talk to someone who doesn’t think you’re crazy.

I liked your description about them not running, they glided! I seen two of them going though the woods and they also glided. Their head level etc also glided and they were silent. It gave me goose bumps to be near them. Where ever they were.... the hair on me stood up stronger in their direction. You are not crazy, but beware all that you tell to MUFON. A government infiltrated fishing source for abductees' and physical evidence. UFOs are classified as top secret, I know from my Marine Corps experience. Don't believe for a moment that our government would give any organization free run at what they classified top secret. It's a National Security matter for a crashed UFO or ET bodies etc to be collected immediately. The government wants to keep track of abductees'. Missing time or physical traces on your body? ET's can suppress memory and and also place memories on top of what they don't want you to remember. Things may seem dream like, but leave physical evidence

Quite a few UFO incidents are being documented and more witnesses are telling their stories. Google the Stephenville Texas UFO sightings of January 2008, it was very similar to your incident and also lasted several days.
There was Canada 67 UFO that had a strong odor. Did you have a cold, sinus problems or allergies? That could lessen the sense of smell. Thank you for sharing your story, and I hope you capture that UFO on film! Here is more info:

Thank you so much for writing. Just today there is a huge news story out of Spokane about many people capturing a UFO hovering over Liberty Lake, Wa. Liberty Lake is 45 miles north of us, so I think they are still in our area. I will check out the stories on the chemical smell, and yes, actually I was being treated for a sinus infection at the time my daughter smelled the odor! For C H..The gliding part is scary. It's frightening when you encounter something that your mind can't identify or wrap around. Did you have any abduction flashbacks after witnessing the incident? Their agenda frightens me. Thank you all for writing.

To: Palouse Mom, Hi your question makes me wonder if you are having flashbacks. I would recommend contacting Roger Marsh, he covered your story here. Ask him for my email address. I will not discuss everything openly on the net. My encounters started in about 1967. I was about 10/11 years old, lets just say "they" thought it was time for schooling me. I will say this; if ET's have an interest in you they will often continue to check in on you through out your life time. Please try not to worry....Do you know what worry is? Worry is faith in the wrong thing. Think good and good will follow. Use your faith in a positive manner. You have to believe, if you find yourself worrying just change the mood/thought and feeling. This will keep you safe and free from them during your waking hours. Dwelling on them only attracts them more. I have learned a lot over the years. Sense Feb.27th, 2009 till now(102!)the sightings of them has increased tremendously! I go out side and there they are!
