Annual UFO over El Cajun makes Fourth of July appearance once again
The July 4 celebrations over Pennsylvania brought thousands of people outside looking skyward, and multiple cases of UFO sightings, according to witness testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
State MUFON Director John Ventre is reporting that his teams are investigating five possibly related sightings, primarily on the eastern end of the state.
Celebration of July 4th is possibly the most popular holiday to draw people out of their homes to look skyward at the thousands of fireworks displays produced by professional groups and individuals or at family gatherings. Like the UFO reports from April Fool's Day, ufologists look more cautiously at sightings that occur on a night when the skies are filled with manmade lights designed to entertain.
Reports from nine additional states claim orange or red objects, or multiple objects, in the skies that moved in a controlled or intelligent manner.
Ventre said witnessses are being interviewed now in the following five cases.
Case # 1: At 10:30 p.m. on July 4, a witness in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, reported an orange glowing light coming toward him. The silent object made several turns in the sky before moving away. A second object was spotted followed the same path. Now armed with binoculars, a third object was seen rising in the east that quickly moved away and out of sight. A fourth object then came into view from the north. This case is under investigation by Pennsylvania MUFON's Mark Zmigrodski.

PA, July 4, 2009 - orange glowing brighter at bottom, not unlike illuminated hot air bal. Looking notheast up valley at fireworks saw light coming orange. Thought to be an airplane. heard no sound. object continued south, turned east. Next object came a few min. later [ 10? ] same path. followed by another in distance. ran in house for binoculars. sited and focused on third object. it rose in altitude east, and accelerated in speed out of site. Fourth object came over mtn. in north, heading southeast. Got good look at this as it came closer. Than object increased in altitude, and traveled southwest i'm guessing. It went up and out of site. followed a satelite and could still see that, behind slight cloud. Surmised cloud did not block view of fourth object. It looked like the shape of a hot air balloon. wind was moving toward east. It did not follow wind, nor could balloon have that much speed. REALLY COOL! Better than any fireworks! the first 3 seemed a bit yellow at times with the naked eye. An exiting thing to see, but you can't share that! |
Case #2: A Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, witness who was driving home from July 4 fireworks, saw between 15 and 20 lights moving across the sky "in a loose formation from north to south." Other witnesses were pulling over to watch these lights, including a woman in a nearby car who asked what they were. This case is under investigation by Pennsylvania MUFON's John Royer.

PA, July 4, 2009 - lights in sky flying in formation We were driving home after our local fireworks display. I looked to the northeast of our vehicle and saw what looked like light rising into the air. After a little while it became obvious that they weren't rising, but moving. There were about 15-20 lights in the sky flying in a loose formation from north to south. There was a main group and a smaller group further behind of about 5 lights. Many people were pulling over to view the lights. One woman in the car next to us asked us what they were. I kept thinking that they were most likely aircraft. But they were flying low in a very loose formation with bright lights on, which seemed odd to me. It is certainly something I've never seen before. We lost sight of the lights when they continued south and were too far away to continue viewing. |
Case #3: A Bucks County witness reports a sighting on July 5, at 3:40 a.m. where two craft made erratic maneuvers in the sky.
The witness said the two craft moved in formation. This case is under investigation by Pennsylvania MUFON's Greg Mazzotta.

PA, July 5, 2009 - 2 ufo fling in aradic patterns have been seeinga single object for last 10 months, directly overhead and would over time of each evening it would move, east to west, fling like someone was playing with a joystick and not making direct flight rather zig + zag, back + forth, tonite however it was joined by a 2nd craft about 10 degrees due north of original object, they together displayed the same arradic patterns, almost like signing someone on the ground. odd very odd |
Case #4: A Palmyra, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, witness saw a bright orange object the size of a quarter at arm's length move across the sky. The witness said the object was "mushroom shaped" and pulsated. This case is under investigation by Pennsylvania MUFON's John Bainbridge.

PA, July 4, 2009 - bright orange object with a mushroom shaped glow coming off the top moving west to east. I was outside cleaning up after a 4th of july party. I bright orange glow went by, above it was a glowing ring. My son (age 6) said it was a "flying mushroom". My neighbors kids (age 5-8, three of them) said it was a "ballon". The object was moving roughly east to west. It went directly across the sky. I knew it was too fast for a helicopter, Not too fast for a jet though. I knew it was not anything I had ever seen before. I called it in to the local police. I was curious to see if any one else had called it in. There were a lot of fireworks in the area, many people must have been looking up. This object traveled across the sky, not up or down. It looked the size of a US Quarter. I lost sight of the object when trees blocked my view. |
Case #5: Three Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, witnesses reported an orange light. The object would at times speed up and then slow down, getting brighter and then dimmer. One of the witnesses captured the light on video (not made available at this time.) This case is under investigation by Pennsylvania MUFON.

PA, July 4, 2009 - Orange light in sky making direction change, speed changes and hovering above Ellwood City. My wife, a family friend an I were outside of our house watching fireworks when we noticed a light in the sky and thought that it was a burning firework ember or low flying plane. We did not hear any engines so we ruled out a plane. We watched it move across the sky where it appeared to be rotating, and it would speed up and slow down. At one point it did an abrubt 45 degree turn and then continued on a rather straight line. It appeared to be getting brighter and then dimmer. It was very bright then it just dissapeard. We then noticed it coming from another direction doing the same thing. I used binoculars to view the object, and every time I got a stable view, it seemed to either change coarse or speed up and disappear. At that point my wife captured the light on video with our camcorder. In the video it went from bring close to us, to being extremely far away with in 10 seconds. It was also moving at a very steady speed, then faded in and out and was gone. |

The descriptions don't sound like fireworks. It seems more like knowing many people would be out at night looking up at the sky, the ufo fliers went into their attention-getting mode again.
I was at a July 4th party with 20 people that observed groups of unexplained orange objets in formation after the fireworks display.
In South West, PA, Westmoreland Co., we witnessed two of these objects. They both moved in a straight path across the sky. They were very bright, and we thought at first they were hot air balloons on fire! Glad others saw it!!
OMG I live in Portersville, PA and witnessed the same as the witness in Ellwood City. It was very strange!!!
Finally, someone else has seen this! Myself and (found out later) a neighbor saw one of these orange globes up close. This was @ 3 am early last summer (2008). It was amber/orange, like it was a fire contained inside the big globe. I live in Meadville, 1/2 hr south of Lake Erie, PA. I would love to talk to anyone else that also saw this.
We saw one red/orange circular objest slowly flying southeast over Dallas, Pennsylania. We think it was a UFO.
We live in Washington state, and saw the exact same things at a friends 4th of July BBQ. We saw 4 of these orange objects while some neighborhood fireworks were going on. We had a bunch of eyewitnesses who were all baffled as to what they were. After the fireworks subsided, we were cleaning up the street and saw two more appear. They all moved smoothly, glowed orange, moved in random patterns, and all eventually disappeared as they took off "away" from us. The first 4 appeared from the east and looked like they eventually moved west.
The last two we saw appeared 30 minutes after the first group of four. Because it stirred up our excitement, we had binoculars ready for the last two. Three of us were able to focus on them with the binoculars. From our naked eyes, they appeared to emit an orange glow almost reddish. Like a glowing ball of light. But seeing one in the binoculars, we were amazed that we saw each one had a minimum of 5 lights, in a symmetrical pattern.
Oh, and for documentation purposes... these were seen around Covington, Washington between 11:30pm and 12:30am Pacific time.
Could that just been a firework but they were to boardring that u guys just made exuceses and said u saw a UFO liers why are your pants not on fire get some water before it starts hurry to slow see u suckers
There's a good chance some of these are sightings of Chinese lanterns. You can view videos of these on YouTube.
Saw a bright white object around 3am the morning of july 5th camping close to honesdale pa. it looked like a brighter star that ascended into the sky from the trees. it was difficult to know how close or far away it was from where were were standing. it stayed in the sky for hours, sometimes moving, but in ways very unlike an airplane. a few times for a few minutes i could hear what sounded like a faint hum, but definitely not an airplane. we watched this for nearly two hours, astounded. i was with two others, and we feel that this object very much knew of our presence. later, smaller orange glowing objects appeared to the northeast of the white light, then one to the south west. they moved in the same patterns together. the white light stayed in the sky through the sunrise, the orange lights eventually disappeared when the sun was up. we wanted to see if the white light would disappear, but it outlasted us. has anyone had an elongated experience such as this?
It's so strange, but I saw this same orange light in Chicago around 10:15pm on July 4th. I too thought it was flickering amber left from a firework, but it just continued on a linear path without ever dying out. I thought it was strange. Lost sight of it after it went over the house. I though nothing of it until now that I'm reading that other people saw the same thing!
We saw abunch opf them come right over our campsite at devil's lake state park in Wisconsin... it looked like little orange air ballons with candles? they were traveling south to north on july 3 at about 11pm.....does anyone know where they came from? did any else in Wisconsin see these?!?!
I was one of the Ellwood City witnesses - CG - whoever you are, I would love to chat with you! I've been wracking my brains out trying to figure out what the heck this could have been.

A red light in the sky was seen in Chester WV at around 10:45. It remained stationary at first, moved across part of the sky, and then the light began flashing as it made a very quick beeline in a different direction until it disappeared. It definitely didn't move like anything I'd ever seen before. A friend of mine has a video about 4 minutes long showing what I just described and witnessed (along with another person).
My boyfriend and I saw 4 orange, pulsating objects moving across the sky at around 9:30pm in Allentown Pennsylvania. No sound came from these objects, they seemed to be manuevered by someone/something. They floated across the sky, and eventually disappeared over the mountains.
We live in Bethlehem and saw the same thing about 15 min. after the local fireworks show. There were 5 yellow-orange lights moving in a very controlled way and close to each other which is what got my attention. The lights were moving eastward and completely disappeared in a matter of 10-15 seconds. I'm glad to hear of other sightings.
Guy on Youtube told me this about orange ufo like one in video called "Orange UFO Over USA ! " Under Rain ":
...(I saw same thing) Tonight, in (western pa) Crawford county PA. 7-5-09 at about 11:30 pm or so. grabbed camcorder and ran out in my socks.... was gone. Three of us saw it.
--We saw same east of Pittsburgh on 5/13 & 5/18/09... moving erratically, 3 different places by us, chased it by cell towers, then it came up in front of house from below tree line, stayed, got 2 pics on camera before battery died-posted on Mufon.com 5/18/09 Westmoreland County. Dimmed, then flashing plane-looking craft came from it's location... Saw total of 7 ufos that night! Epidemic of orange, red or amber yellow ones all over world lately! Around 9:00 PM on July 4th, myself and about a dozen others were sitting on my father in laws garage roof, watching the very illegal fireworks display from our magistrate neighbor. I looked south of us and saw exactly 13 orange lights, moving in a coordinated pattern in a south easternly direction. After reading some of the comments, this would be somewhere around the Hanover Township area.
Oddly enough, this is our second "UFO" sighting in two years on the 4th of July. Last year, myself and roughly the same group of people witnessed an orange light traveling across the sky, which initially we thought to be a plane. The object then came to a complete stop for approximately 20-30 seconds, which grabbed our attention. It then continued on in its path, only to completely vanish and not be seen again.
It should be noted that both nights were completely clear of cloud cover. Freaky.
I did not mention my area in the previous comment. We reside in Old Forge PA, which is just south of Scranton.
I saw the Ellwood City,PA UFO as well from North Sewickley Twp. It appeared as a reddish orange light. It was traveling slowly in a straight line going almost due South when I first noticed it. It was traveling too slowly to be an airplane. It stopped abruptly when it was almost directly overhead and appeared to go straight up.
July 4th is a universal Date of freedom and prosperity, Only fair they stop by a few times.
Why all the UFO sightings on the 4th of July? I know why, I watch the skies almost every night, at lease for a few minutes to hours. Except on bad weather days. I'm humored by all the reports that are coming in. I figured this would happen. Fire works helped bring everyone's eyes to the sky. UFOs are more common than we are lead to believe. So People just need to look at the skies as often and they will see UFOs. I live in Salt Lake City. After a few months of observation, I pretty much know the time of night they are usually around. Star like ones are common(Orange colored). If they stop and disappear, keep watching that area. Later they will light up as they take off again! Get you a good pair of 10 x 50 binoculars with 376 or better field of (vision) view. A few hours every night and MUFON will ask you to stop reporting, even with or without pictures.
We saw the same thing in California on the 4th of July. Two orange red glowing objects hovering and then slowly circling in a random pattern. Then each moved away slowly until it just disappeared from sight. They moved slowly and in a pattern that no airplane or helicopter would follow. And the glow emitted from them was too bright to be a plane/helicopter. Also there was no sound coming from them. Either type of aircraft with a light that strong would have to be pretty close and you would definitely hear some type of engine noise. These were totally silent.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this! I wish I had thought of running to get the binoculars though.
I was the first case report. I now believe these were big iron meteors. When the bottoms heated, the repulsive pole propelled them back into space. If this is so... we were very lucky. They were a thing of beauty to watch, [but so are tigers before they kill you.] I'm convinced of this now. By the worn bottoms, and heat-brightness on bottom, gave them the mushroom-lightbulb shape. The heat depleated the magnetics and off they went. Is this not possible, if they came in polorized and lost the attractive pull toward the earth from heating up? A few meter asteriod can generate about 1 kiloton of tnt explosion. These things had to be the size of buildings by thier height and distances observed at once. No science or govt. responses on these things? the whole country saw them.
i saw this as well! on july 4th 09 in shillington, berks county at about 10 pm at night, my friend pointed out a strange orange sphere shaped object in the sky, many people were looking at it after a minute. it was a perfect sphere, not too high up, at a constant slow-ish speed, the opposite direction of the fireworks display. i fiugre it was the size of an average size excersize ball. it appeared to be full of fire. it wasnt the light of a plane or anything. made no noise..
Ive been looking for other accounts of this and im pleased to find this.
I saw one of these last night. Bright orange glow, extended spherical body, reddish on top. Took some pictures, but all I got was a fuzzy red dot. While I was grabbing my binoculars, the light sputtered and went out. I focused on it - it was around 9:00, so the sky was still bright enough to see the dark object against it - and I saw a reddish, deflating bag tumbling slowly out of the sky. In retrospect, I believe it was a Chinese Lantern. Most of the sightings described above sound like they could have also been Chinese Lanterns.

I saw one of these last night at about 10:30 pm. It was fairly low in the sky (probably about the height of a hot air balloon flying.) It moved from the south and headed north and simply stopped. The orange flame-like appearance was brilliantly lit for about 2 minutes and then slowly faded away to nothing. All in all, it lasted about 4 minutes. I have never seen such a thing before, but must admit, I am intrigued that so many across the mainland saw this at about the same time last night.
saw the same orange red lights on long island about 9:20 they were no chinese lanterns as suggested. They flew in formation then disappeared
