U.S. taking in heavy number of Orange Sphere UFO reports

Bright, round, orange spheres are being heavily reported across the country in record numbers throughout July 2010, according to reports from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

Could all of these reports be explained away as Chinese lanterns?

Some of them, but not all of them, according to Illinois MUFON State Director Sam Maranto.

Reached at his home July 20, Maranto admits that the skyrocketing reports of these objects do overlap with the July 4 celebrations with fireworks across the country.

"But when you read all of the reports," Maranto said, "many are seeing the objects very close as round, orange spheres." Many of these objects are seen moving in a controlled manner - unlike what a Chinese lantern can do.

While the reports cover sightings in many states across the country, he said they seemed to peak about July 9, but sightings continue to come into the MUFON database daily.

"It's happening around the world," Maranto said. "Not just here where we celebrate July 4."

Typical of these reports, is the following sighting that was reported in Indiana on July 21, from a sighting the day before.

IN, July 20, 2010, bright orange globe. MUFON Case # 24682.

My daughter was outside and seen something in the sky that was too bright and not moving like a plane. she called me outside and I looked to the north west at this bright round orange object moving off to the east.

It looked as though it moved in a straight line and when it hit a certain spot to the east it would get dim and disappear.

I was going to call the police but it was gone.

I called my mom and brother who live in Calumet City, IL to tell them. My first reaction was to pamic and run back in but I was captivated and curious as to what it was.

As I was telling them, my duaghters noticed it was coming around again. Same way. Same path. as soon as it hit the same spot to the east it got wouldget dim and disappear.

My mom and brother could not see it as it came around again. My mom told me to call my sister who lives south of me in Cedar LAke, IN to see if she could see. So I am telling her that the moon is south of me and the Big Dipper is North of the moon.

She finds the area and all of a sudden my older daughter says its coming around again. Same way. Same path. At the same time my sister on the phone gasps and asks what it is.

We watched as it followed the same path and diappeared off at the same point on the east. It did not return and we watched for another 30 min. I saw it pass about 4- 5 times in total and my sister saw it once. Very strange. No noise. Very bright orange and would get dim and disappear at the same point in the sky.

Always appeared from the northwest heading to the east. Not extremely high in the sky- was above tree top. Sky tonight was clear. Still very shocked and curious to see what it was. Searched google and seen multiple accounts over Chicago and Indiana since July 1st about the same time. Very bizarre. Was searching for orange lights over northwest Indiana for todays date and pulled up the other accounts. I lost sight of the object over the same eastern point in the sky. After 4- 5 passes it didn't return.

My friend and I saw an amber light, that
had a candle like glow, move silently
    across the sky.

It was a light I had never seen

before. It moved "effortlessly" in a

    straight line.

    As it passed overhead, my

friend and I both had a feeling it was

about to disappear. It then faded away

in clear sight about 800ft above my

house. After it was "gone" my friend

and I talked about what we saw as it

disappeared. We both saw some kind

of metallic panel like lines, as if there

was a structure within the light as the

light faded away above us. This

happened on June 27, 2009 around

8:40 pm in the San Jacinto mountains

    of southern California.

My Mrs and me saw three of these things, equally spaced and moving " "effortlessly" in a straight line" just as you saw. We did not see any internal structures, they were just orange balls of light about the sizeof a dime held at arms length. Their speed was constant. They then all faded out within seconds of each other. I believe it was Thanksgiving night, 6:18pm 2008. We discounted chinese lanterns due to their precise equal spacing and their constant (and effortless, I like the way Mike used that) speed.

I have seen an orange sphere twice, once in 1998 at my girlfriends house and again in 1999 at my house in Escondido CA. My girlfriend and I saw an orange sphere that was dropping small blue spherical lights. As it passed overhead, I flashed my lighter at it and it stopped. It then dropped another ball of light so I flashed my lighter again and it took off in a streak of orange light with what sounded like a car backfire.

The second time, just about a year later, I saw it again with my mother. It started dropping the blue lights when it was passing over a mobile home park directly across from my house. I was a security officer at the time so I grabbed my 4 cell maglite and was about to shine my light at it when it abruptly darted to the right into a large cloud. We watched the cloud for over an hour and the object never emerged from it. I reported this to HBCCUFO Years ago and was interviewed on Brian Vikes Radio program.

I personally logged over 75 of these last year....the orange ones. Yes I seen other types too. I logged a lot of hours to do it! About 4 a night! If you put in the time it will pay off. 5 to 10 minutes a night is a joke! If you want to read about them stay inside and web search! If you want to see this stuff first hand go out and watch for hours at a time. If you are not seeing anything, have you done it for 40 hours and seen nothing? I have. Then I've seen several in one night and as many as 5 nights in a row! Maybe someone will get a clue and go look at our skies? If you see one UFO, they usually never travel alone. LOOK AROUND!

I saw one of these on June 25 over Omaha, NE. I posted a report of it on Mufon's website.

Absolutely amazing to watch. With a lot of people seeing these things, something's definitely going on.

I also saw this orange sphere on Oct. 10, 2010 in San Angelo Texas. It was around 8:30 pm and was about 1000 ft above my house. There was no sound at all, it was moving rather slowly but when I got on my cell phone to call my family to come outside to look at this the craft sped away a very fast speed. It was coming in from the south and headed north and was visible for only about a minute. I too would love to know what this was. It was very strange.
