Six Kansas witnesses near a neighborhood pond first joked about lights in the sky circling around them, but were shocked by the craft's second appearance at close range as they made out "the distinct outline of a very thin triangular shaped black object," according to witness testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
One of the friends called out to the others to point out a lit object in the distant darkness. They joked about it being a UFO, one snapped a cell phone image of it, and when it disappeared from view they wrote it off as a blimp.
But the object came back about two minutes later - this time brighter and at close range.
The object was hanging just above the tree line behind them and was described as "the size of a small house." The object hovered, they said, and slowly moved directly overhead.
"At this point we could see the distinct outline of a very thin triangular shaped black object. Numerous lights lit up the underneath and a slight hum could be heard, but nothing like an airplane or a jet engine. My friends and I just watched it pass and as we were all in shock, nobody could get out their phone for a closer picture."
After slowly passing overhead, the object increased speed and moved away - disappearing in "the blink of an eye."
The following is the original unedited witness testimony from MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Kansas MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page.
KS, August 21, 2009 - Triangular shaped thin black object (about the size of a small house) with numerous lights underneath passed directly over my friends and I just above treetop height. MUFON Case # 18813.
My friends and I (6 of us total) were visiting the neighborhood pond when one of us called out to point out a lighted object far off in the dark sky.
We watched the object circle around and one of my friends and i had jokingly called out, "Haha look it's a UFO!" Two of the guys with us decided it looked like a blimp judging on the lights positioning.
I snapped a pic of the aircraft on my cell phone while it was still visable.
The object had flown just out of sight behind some trees. We all were stunned at the thought of what that could have been. Finally everyone agreed that it had to have been a blimp.
Approx. 2 min later the lights from before were much brighter now and behind us. We all turned around to see the object from before up close and right in front of us but just above the tree line. The aircraft, about the size of a small house, hovered while continuing to move right above our heads.
At this point we could see the distinct outline of a very thin triangular shaped black object. Numerous lights lit up the underneath and a slight hum could be heard, but nothing like an airplane or a jet engine. My friends and I just watched it pass and as we were all in shock, nobody could get out their phone for a closer picture.
Just after passing us and the small pond, the triangular aircraft increased speed and took off. The object disappeared within the blink of an eye. I was in complete shock as I had never seen anything like this before in my life.

Once again no one could get a close up picture even when they tried. This makes the point CH and I have been making. Good cell-phone image just the same.
SRV I agree they know what they are doing, as well as what we are thinking. Kind of a cat and mouse game in which they are proving they are the boss :) . If they wanted us to get good pictures or proof they could have already done it hundreds and hundreds of years ago. It's also easy to see from our history and current day about man kind. Our technology keeps advancing, but our nature is(much the same)still very territorial. Look at how we have divided up the earth into so many countries, states and Providences, counties, cities, our properties, our own individual personal space around us. Property! My car, My wife, My husband, my boy, my girl, my pets, my room, hey that's mine! I want that so I'll take that and it will then be mine! We are a very territorial species. What ever they give us we would currently use it to get everything they also have. At our current state of mind we are a dangerous species. They probably make horror movies about us. Who would want us visiting anywhere?

We are a very immature species to be sure...I am hoping though that they have the ability to see, hear and know that there are good decent ones here also,,,unfortunately, the good ones aren't the ones making the major decisions for everyone else...the decent ones are under the radar...giving homes to animals, people, feeding, sharing, loving, being open minded, yes, there is so much good, good just doesn't get the attention... hateful aggressive loud does...anyway I sincerely hope they know about the good also...and don't paint us all with the same brush, as we tend to do...
I'd be interested in knowing *where* in KS this happened (a minor detail that kinda sticks out when you live in KS); obviously I didn't happen to see it on the news, but I wonder where this event is alleged to have happened.
Phoenix; According to the case report,the sighting occurred in Shawnee, KS. Thats in Johnson County.
Wow! My Dad, along and several dozen witnesses, described this exact same sighting in Youngsville, PA on the same night. I believe it was around 8 pm. It seems they went from one place to another in the blink of an eye, which is consistent with how these witnesses describe them departing.
I have NEVER been one to believe in UFO stuff. I always laughed at it until I saw what I saw last spring (north of Cincinnati). It was a clear blue day with white puffy clouds,I was driving to Walmart with my son when I saw two black triangles flying in tandum just above the tree line about a block away.I said,"What the heck is THAT?!" and pointed. My son turned just but the trees were now obstructing the view.I sped up to get past the trees and the craft were gone. Maybe five seconds?GONE! NOTHING flies that fast! I saw no lights as it was broad daylight and cant be sure of the size because they were in the sky.What I saw was a few seconds.NO time to even THINK of getting my camera out!My son didnt even see them! F-A-S-T
And this is the naiivety of America.... "They" are the military, Area 51 is an aircraft testing ground and by operating in plain site they fool you all... Aliens (which I do believe in) do take an intelligence but one borne from animal instinct. They dont go around pretending they are any different to their fellow species.. If you want to be close to aliens watch an ant hive for an hour... It reads like faith here, there is no super being going to pick you all up, dust you off and put a plaster on it. Their priorities involve finding food for the day.
I just witnessed what looked to be a curved black thin line moving through the clouds like a migration of birds, but it seemed to high, fast, and perfectly uniform. It looked like a very wide wing span, but was hard to really gauge size because of the distance away. I wouldn't have even mentioned this, but there was something alarming about what I saw and that was that it vanished behind a small cloud surrounded by blue skies and it never reemerged. It simply disappeared. The bird theory went right out the window. This just happened about 20 minutes ago at dusk. 7:20pm Arizona time close to Wickenburg, AZ
