NV, September 18, 2009 - lights seen and then disappearing. MUFON Case # 19393.
Around 11 pm (I didn't think to check the exact time) on Sept. 18th, 2009, I saw what at first appeared to be an airliner (we are in the McCarren fight path for planes that have taken off from McCarren airport going east bound), it had 5 rectangle white lights from left to right in a straight line with a white strobe flashing on the bottom center.
What made me pay attention was there was no sound from the jets (at that time of night you can hear the jet engines for a very long time) and it wasn't moving away like a airliner, it was stationary.
I watched the lights for like 30 to 45 seconds and then it just disappeared.
I mean disappeared, poof, it was just gone. It wasn't like it went into a cloud, it just vanished, like faster than a blink of the eye and I didn't see it again.
I had the strangest feeling that I saw something that I wasn't ment to see.
The lights I saw were east of Las Vegas near Nellis Air Force Base, over what we call Sunrise Mountain (real name is Frenchman Mountain), kind of low in the sky, maybe a 45 degrees from the horizon. A plane at that degree would have been very high and far away and just a dot. This looked to be only about 10 miles away.
I was just wondering if anyone else saw the same thing and reported this sighting?
This isn't the first weird sighting I've seen, I've reported to Mufon before a few years ago. Of course Area 51 isn't that far away.
Another weird light I saw was few months ago at night, I didn't record the date and time, sorry, I saw what looked to be a star but it was moving slowly in the sky. If you had just looked upward in the night sky you would have thought it was just another star, but I was gazing at the stars and saw it moving, then a very bright light came off of it for about 3 seconds, like it was taking a night time photo, then it went back to being a slow moving star then it disappeared. I watched this for about 30 seconds. This was moving from north to south, was in the eastern sky, around 60 degrees (guessing) from the horzon.
Anyway, let me know if anyone else saw these latest lights too so that I know I'm not seeing things.

I believe you saw either a military engineered ufo or the the real thing. I have seen them as well, over two years, here in Texas & more than that.
We are still surprised to know that yes many Advanced life forms are here, each in their own style of crafts. Yes some seen are military 'hybrids' of reversed engineered UFO crafts but most are one of about 25 distinctly different species of life forms, some only about 200+ years advanced, some thousands of years and more.
It IS cool however to see them as they usually know whos watching them...I dont know how but you can feel they know your watching and they sometimes want you to see them I dont know why.

the moving light with the " flare " coming off it like a nightime photo was taken , seen it 1981 above Kirkland AFB , made a 90 degree turn also
Ray, I totally disagree with you, this is one of my favorite sites for UFO information, this site lets the average person like me tell what we've seen and we're not ridiculed. You have no idea what is actually seen and most people are sincere...
Seren, I agree with you, I also, think they (UFO) know when we're watching and sometimes seem to play with us...my granddaughter and I see them in the sky at night and use a flashlight to signal. Every now and then they grow brighter and dim quickly, as to be signaling back to us...totally fun...peace
I do agree with saundra. "They"(UFO)know when we're watching and sometimes do play with us, even individually. I have used a 2,000,000 million power portable spotlight to get their more immediate attention. Also on nights you don't see them, do random sequence flashes in the clouds etc, do this every few minutes, if any are around they will usually come. It's a great attention getter! On those solid cloudy nights that's how to bring them in too. It works for me! Everyone can buy one of those potable rechargeable spotlights very cheaply at Harbor Freight. I think I paid about 10.00 dollars for mine. They do run down the rechargeable battery inside them quickly so you might want to buy more than one. They also take too long to recharge, but they are portable and cheap. They work for me! Brand name is: "FIXIT TOOLS". If anyone used the car battery type, please remember they do drain the car battery fast. Just use some common sense everyone, it's fun! Happy sky/UFO watching everyone.
mmmm? noticing an object in the east near Nellis AFB? a base that has its test bombing surrounding area 51 to the north/northwest of Nellis? mmm? sounds like to me this time more of a government project than an UFO?
what you've seen is true...i saw them too hhere in lebanon..they conqured the sky....there was over 100 of them....mostly they are ufos...guys everything is possible ...some can believe some won't... that's life...we all saw them here
Dear UFO seer, please note that on the night of the 19th and 20th, strange objects were seen by hundreds of people in Lebanon, ME. you can check it on u tube, just search for strange objects in the sky....
Sunday night october 18th exactly a month later I had a similar sighting!! I was drivcing home and around 2 a.m. i saw 3 large lights hovering over the mountain near my home I stopped and observed what I was seeing and eventually the lights began moving towards me and flew right over me on the bottom of the craft I saw 5 bright large lights then it began to turn hard towards the NE and flew in a circle. I attempted to take a picture with my phone but it was acting strangley and i couldn't get to my camera feature. I could not tell the shape of the aircraft but it also made no sound.

Those happen a lot. From my understanding, they are satellite flares. Something about satellites reflecting sunlight, and when they move just the right way, they make that sudden flash. But they always look like normal faraway stars that are slowly moving, which tends to make people freak out. Google iridium satellite flares. Might be a good explanation for what you saw.
As for the lights over Frenchman...no idea.
