Pennsylvania responds to UFOs over holiday weekend

Many Pennsylvania readers responded to the story on related UFO sightings there over the Fourth of July holiday weekend,  including a few from other states.

Pennsylvania MUFON Director John Ventre asks that anyone who had a sighting here over the holiday weekend should report it to mufon.com.

Here are some of their comments. All comments are unedited.

Phil G - Around 9:00 PM on July 4th, myself and about a dozen others were sitting on my father in laws garage roof, watching the very illegal fireworks display from our magistrate neighbor. I looked south of us and saw exactly 13 orange lights, moving in a coordinated pattern in a south easternly direction. After reading some of the comments, this would be somewhere around the Hanover Township area. Oddly enough, this is our second "UFO" sighting in two years on the 4th of July. Last year, myself and roughly the same group of people witnessed an orange light traveling across the sky, which initially we thought to be a plane. The object then came to a complete stop for approximately 20-30 seconds, which grabbed our attention. It then continued on in its path, only to completely vanish and not be seen again. It should be noted that both nights were completely clear of cloud cover. Freaky.
Phil G - I did not mention my area in the previous comment. We reside in Old Forge PA, which is just south of Scranton.

Alison in PA - Guy on Youtube told me this about orange ufo like one in video called "Orange UFO Over USA ! " Under Rain ": ...(I saw same thing) Tonight, in (western pa) Crawford county PA. 7-5-09 at about 11:30 pm or so. grabbed camcorder and ran out in my socks.... was gone. Three of us saw it. --We saw same east of Pittsburgh on 5/13 & 5/18/09... moving erratically, 3 different places by us, chased it by cell towers, then it came up in front of house from below tree line, stayed, got 2 pics on camera before battery died-posted on Mufon.com 5/18/09 Westmoreland County. Dimmed, then flashing plane-looking craft came from it's location... Saw total of 7 ufos that night! Epidemic of orange, red or amber yellow ones all over world lately! See my UFO videos on youtube, channel name: seeingUFOsPA

CeliaPA - We live in Bethlehem and saw the same thing about 15 min. after the local fireworks show. There were 5 yellow-orange lights moving in a very controlled way and close to each other which is what got my attention. The lights were moving eastward and completely disappeared in a matter of 10-15 seconds. I'm glad to hear of other sightings.

Allentown PA - My boyfriend and I saw 4 orange, pulsating objects moving across the sky at around 9:30pm in Allentown Pennsylvania. No sound came from these objects, they seemed to be manuevered by someone/something. They floated across the sky, and eventually disappeared over the mountains.

WK - A red light in the sky was seen in Chester WV at around 10:45. It remained stationary at first, moved across part of the sky, and then the light began flashing as it made a very quick beeline in a different direction until it disappeared. It definitely didn't move like anything I'd ever seen before. A friend of mine has a video about 4 minutes long showing what I just described and witnessed (along with another person).

CG - Jennifer, you can email me at Cherylsspectrum@yahoo.com There were 8 of us that seen it that night. Talk to you soon!!

JOHN - ANYONE WITNESSING THE ORANGE REDDISH OBJECT ON THE EVENING OF JULY 4, 2009, MAY REPORT THE INCIDENT IN DETAIL TO: MUFON.COM AND FILL OUT A SIGHTING REPORT. WITHIN 24 HOURS A MUFON FIELD INVESTIGATOR WILL CONTACT YOU VIA THE METHOD OF YOUR CHOICE TO DISCUSS THE INCIDENT.

Jennifer - I was one of the witnesses in the Ellwood City sighting. CG - would love to chat with you and compare stories! I've been wracking my brains trying to figure out what it could have been...

Debbie - Wisconsin - We saw abunch opf them come right over our campsite at devil's lake state park in Wisconsin... it looked like little orange air ballons with candles? they were traveling south to north on july 3 at about 11pm.....does anyone know where they came from? did any else in Wisconsin see these?!?!

O. pineda - It's so strange, but I saw this same orange light in Chicago around 10:15pm on July 4th. I too thought it was flickering amber left from a firework, but it just continued on a linear path without ever dying out. I thought it was strange. Lost sight of it after it went over the house. I though nothing of it until now that I'm reading that other people saw the same thing!

honesdale, pa - Saw a bright white object around 3am the morning of july 5th camping close to honesdale pa. it looked like a brighter star that ascended into the sky from the trees. it was difficult to know how close or far away it was from where were were standing. it stayed in the sky for hours, sometimes moving, but in ways very unlike an airplane. a few times for a few minutes i could hear what sounded like a faint hum, but definitely not an airplane. we watched this for nearly two hours, astounded. i was with two others, and we feel that this object very much knew of our presence. later, smaller orange glowing objects appeared to the northeast of the white light, then one to the south west. they moved in the same patterns together. the white light stayed in the sky through the sunrise, the orange lights eventually disappeared when the sun was up. we wanted to see if the white light would disappear, but it outlasted us. has anyone had an elongated experience such as this?

West Chester PA - There's a good chance some of these are sightings of Chinese lanterns. You can view videos of these on YouTube.

smickle - We live in Washington state, and saw the exact same things at a friends 4th of July BBQ. We saw 4 of these orange objects while some neighborhood fireworks were going on. We had a bunch of eyewitnesses who were all baffled as to what they were. After the fireworks subsided, we were cleaning up the street and saw two more appear. They all moved smoothly, glowed orange, moved in random patterns, and all eventually disappeared as they took off "away" from us. The first 4 appeared from the east and looked like they eventually moved west. The last two we saw appeared 30 minutes after the first group of four. Because it stirred up our excitement, we had binoculars ready for the last two. Three of us were able to focus on them with the binoculars. From our naked eyes, they appeared to emit an orange glow almost reddish. Like a glowing ball of light. But seeing one in the binoculars, we were amazed that we saw each one had a minimum of 5 lights, in a symmetrical pattern.
smickle - Oh, and for documentation purposes... these were seen around Covington, Washington between 11:30pm and 12:30am Pacific time.

Jeanne and Chris - We saw one red/orange circular objest slowly flying southeast over Dallas, Pennsylania. We think it was a UFO.

Kathy McCombs - Finally, someone else has seen this! Myself and (found out later) a neighbor saw one of these orange globes up close. This was @ 3 am early last summer (2008). It was amber/orange, like it was a fire contained inside the big globe. I live in Meadville, 1/2 hr south of Lake Erie, PA. I would love to talk to anyone else that also saw this.

CG - OMG I live in Portersville, PA and witnessed the same as the witness in Ellwood City. It was very strange!!!

Becky H. - In South West, PA, Westmoreland Co., we witnessed two of these objects. They both moved in a straight path across the sky. They were very bright, and we thought at first they were hot air balloons on fire! Glad others saw it!!

Bethlehem PA - I was at a July 4th party with 20 people that observed groups of unexplained orange objets in formation after the fireworks display.

David Adams - The descriptions don't sound like fireworks. It seems more like knowing many people would be out at night looking up at the sky, the ufo fliers went into their attention-getting mode again.

As a matter of fact John, I have googled chinese lanterns. I know what I saw, and I know that wasn't it. The way this thing moved is not in any way what those things look like.

Why all the UFO sightings on the 4th of July? I know why, I watch the skies almost every night, at lease for a few minutes to hours. Except on bad weather days. I'm humored by all the reports that are coming in. I figured this would happen. Fire works helped bring everyone's eyes to the sky. UFOs are more common than we are lead to believe. So People just need to look at the skies as often and they will see UFOs. I live in Salt Lake City. After a few months of observation, I pretty much know the time of night they are usually around. Star like ones are common(Orange colored). If they stop and disappear, keep watching that area. Later they will light up as they take off again! Get you a good pair of 10 x 50 binoculars with 376 or better field of (vision) view. A few hours every night and MUFON will ask you to stop reporting, even with or without pictures.

To: Jennifer.... Most people are scared to believe or admit to themselves in the existence of UFOs. 4 friends of mine and I seen a UFO about a 100 yards away from us hovering etc. One of those friends was totally unwilling to even discuss what we saw for 10 years! Also the government wants them covered up, they also control much of the news media etc. It's sad that people have to hear it from our government that they are real in order to believe. Most people that have not seen a UFO, need to see one to believe. You know as well as I do, seeing is believing. Don't let anyone try to tell you what you saw with your own eyes, like they were there seeing it too! When you read posts that say UFOs are not real etc, you need to ask yourself... Why are they here posting? They don't believe, but they come to post and try to shoot everyone down. Government paid? Government doesn't want this stuff reported? Why else are they here? If I didn't believe in UFOs, I wouldn't bother to read or post.

Four friends and I saw a UFO...

I guess Grammar checker needs to find fault and flaws in what we write, in order to try to detract anyone's attention from the real subject.... which is UFOs. That was weak Mr. Grammar Checker. We like to put flaws in our writing just to bother nuts like you off.

As in real estate where "location, location, location" is the best selling tactic, UFO debunkers use "ridicule, ridicule, ridicule" to hammer at the concept they are attacking. This is far and away, the single most effective weapon in the war against discovery and innovation, ridicule has the unique power to make people completely limp, and fails to wither only those few of sufficiently independent thought. *Forget the Grammar checker! We all know what his purpose is.

I have only two words to describe the recent spat of sightings over the Independence Day Holiday. "Sky Lanterns". These are lanterns that you you light and the heat causes the paper ballon to fill and rise. The normal color they come in is white, but because of the flame inside they tend to have an orangish glow. They also come in red, green, blue, yellow and others. They are becomming more and more popular in the US and the firework vendors are selling them!

Dave - guess you didn't read the rest of the comments. We're not ignorant and I, for one, do know what sky lanterns are. What I saw was not one. CH - I agree with you. The FBI has been calling my friend harassing her about what we saw and I'm quite convinced they know something - whether it's ET or not, it wasn't something you see everyday. I'm so sick of people talking about sky lanterns!!!!!!!!!

DAVE! "Chinese Lanterns/Sky Lanterns" for sell! Its not legal to send up a fire hazard like this! If it lands on a roof it could burn that home or structure to the ground, land in the woods and cause a forest fire etc! Dave that's a bunch of B.S.! Go some where else to try to debunk UFOs. Also you where not there so how did your eyes convey this knowledge to you! We are not that stupid here. But thanks for the side busting laughs! Hahahaha! Also a side note for Dave and other like this: If you want to get arrested and also pay for all damages done.... just go send up a sky lantern while informing the local police and or fire department of your deed! You'll make the news as an idiot reporting yourself!

Someone commented on an increase in the sighting of orange orb or globe shaped objects in the night sky. My wife and I saw (3) BRIGHT orange lights flying in a straight line on Thanksgiving night 2008. These were not "Chinese Laterns". If anything they were military flares of some kind. Problem with that is they were over a heavily poplulated area (Bethlehem PA to be exact), absolutely NO aircraft were in the area and it was THANKSGIVING. I doubt the boys at Willow Grove were out playing in their A-10s around 6 pm on Thanksgiving! Anyway I'm an engineer and she's a nurse. Not saying these were alien spacecraft. Just saying that we could not identify what they were. They were not fixed wing aircraft, helicopters or blimps. They MAY have been balloons, but they would have had to be RIGIDLY tethered and carrying some of the brightest, non-flickering lighting either of us have seen in the air. Could of been just that. But why? Pretty damnmed expensive to throw together!!
