A group of North Carolina witnesses report bright orange lights in the sky that formed a triangle and then quickly disappered on July 22, 2010, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The first sighting occurred about 10 p.m. in one location, with the second sighting about five minutes later at a second location in the sky.
"It was about 5 minutes after that that I was setting there watching when all of a sudden 6 lights in a triangle shape came on," the reporting witness stated. "The lights were very very bright and orange. It was almost as if they were illuminating or glowing. They were pointed in my direction as if it were coming my way."
No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the MUFON report. The group attempted to ready themselves to take photos, but the object did not return.
The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If North Carolina MUFON State Director John Kledis investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.
NC, July 22, 2010 - triangle shaped bright orange lights over the ocean. MUFON Case # 24726.
I was fishing with a couple friends and my 2 sons on the beach. At about 10pm one of my friends jumped from his chair and yelled.. "did you see that, did you see that!" Please tell me Im not the only one that saw that".
He told me he had just seen 2 bright orange lights high in the sky. They only stayed on for about 5 seconds and then just disappeared.
Our other friend also saw it but myself and my sons did not. I sat down in one of the other chairs and started to watch the sky. The moon was very bright and the beach and skies were fairly light.
My 2 friends stood near their fishing poles. I had asked him where exactly they had seen the lights so I could focus my time on that area. They told me it was to the left of the moon and pointed to a star as reference.
It was about 5 minutes after that that I was setting there watching when all of a sudden 6 lights in a triangle shape came on. The lights were very very bright and orange. It was almost as if they were illuminating or glowing. They were pointed in my direction as if it were coming my way.
I had yelled to my friends to look up in the sky. My one friend looked up and saw the lights and said it was almost exactly what he had seen a few minutes earlier only they were in a different part of the sky. They were to the left of the moon. Then they just disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.
Im 100% positive that this was not any sort of conventional aircraft. It was almost surreal and seemed that it had changed locations from the first time it was seen. We sat there for the rest of the night (appx another 2 hrs) observing and hoping to get some photos. It did not make another appearance.

I, too, saw the lights while sitting at the beach on Emerald Isle, NC.
I also saw the lights. It was around 10 pm. I was in Cedar Point, which is sound side of Emerald Isle. Towards the ocean, I saw the lights in the shape of a triangle, but with no lights on the bottom. Kind of like an upside down "V", but flattened a little.
I saw the lights from ocean isle beach
I was at Southporth, NC last night (8/6/2010) and witnessed about 15 orange lights flying east of Southport across the sky south to north toward Wilmington. At first I thought it was an aircraft, but realized that it was no aircraft when it just disappeared without any sound. Shortly after the first disappeared, a line of them appeared and flew the same path and all disappeared at the same location in the sky. I was able to capture a picture of one of these with my iPhone. Very strange indeed.
I was walking on DeBordieu Beach near Georgetown, SC, at around 9 p.m. on July 19, 2010. I stopped to look at the ocean and to my right over the water at about the level a small plane or helicopter would fly along the coast, I saw two sets of very bright, rectangular shaped yellow-orange lights which blinked on in a sequence, 2-4-6 (so a total of 6 rectangles in a line all lit up), then dark, then they blinked on again, then they all went dark, and did not reappear. The first time they blinked on, the two sets were next to each other, separated by a space about equal to how big they appeared. Then it was dark for a couple of seconds, and then the lights appeared again, blinking on in a sequence, but this time separated by a space about three times as big as before. Then they blinked off, leaving an empty sky. The whole sighting lasted about 5 or 6 seconds, maybe a little longer. There was no sound over the surf. The rectangles were very well-defined, as if cut into the sky, and each was about the size of my hand held at arm's length. I saw two people down the beach and walked over to ask if they had seen the same thing. They had and were excited and mystified, as I was. I watched for another 30 minutes or so and, seeing nothing else, walked back to the house. I told my brother and sister-in-law about the lights. They had seen them too from our deck overlooking the ocean.
My daughter and I also saw the same lights over the ocean at Myrtle Beach, second to last week of August 2010. Very strange.
My family and I were in Myrtle Beach SC mid June of this year(2011). We were staying at the Ocean Reef resort. One evening around 9:30pm we were down on the beach just enjoying the breeze and sand and all of a sudden my mother in law and I BOTH saw at the same time Orange lights appear in a triangle formation over the ocean. There were lots of people on the beach and they saw them too...everyone started pointing toward the sky. The lights just faded into view and just as fast faded out...then farther out over the oean they came on again in the same formation..just fade in and fade out...absolutely not a plane...the lights are just hanging there. Never seen anything like it before or since. When they fade out it looks just like The Phoenix Lights video...
