Michigan witness shoots video of silent sphere UFO

A Michigan witness reports watching a sphere crossing the sky that looked like a "bright white round ball,' according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.

The witness was able to shoot a couple of photos and some video.

Following is the unedited report. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on this case, I will update this page.

MI, October 5, 2009 - White Sphere moving west to east. MUFON Case # 19834.

I went out my back yard to a field that is an old golf course. I had my camera with me as I usually do.

I noticed a bright white round ball in the sky. I began shooting pictures and then took some video footage of this object as it went from right to left (west to east).

I would estimate this object as being over a mile away. I continued taping until the object could not be seen as it passed behind the trees. There was no noise that i could detect.

It also looked to be shimmering, or reflective.

    Eric from philly ...

    I'd use a bit of caution in classifying this video / pictures / personal account of a "U.F.O."

    As Roger Marsh cautiously states with regard to sightings:

    "Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade."

    Those are words to heed in ANY sighting from a vast distance. As Dr. J. Allen Hynek states:

    Sightings more than 500 feet (160 m) from the witness are classified as "Daylight Discs," "Nocturnal Lights," or "Radar/Visual Reports." Sightings within about 500 feet are subclassified as various types of "close encounter."

    Close Encounter of the First kind definition:

    A sighting of one or more unidentified flying objects:

    * Flying saucers
    * Odd lights
    * Aerial objects that are not attributable to human technology

    I believe that this would be classified as such ... pending further investigation. Appears to have the qualities of a balloon, IMHO.

    Take care,

    I've seen many of them here in Mich; they are truly unidentified.
    BTW R23, that's what UFO means, unidentified. They have proven themselves NOT to be balloons. They remain motionless for long
    periods (5mins or more) and travel against the wind. Once we were discussing whether one could be a balloon and a balloon actually flew by, in the opposite direction! They also change course so are not satellites either. Just remember that UFO means exactly that, UNIDENTIFIED.

    I have similar video with clouds moving against the object. My own in the San Francisco bay area in 2007. Photographic/telephoto also to compliment the sighting. These objects, whatever they are are everywhere. I have seen and photographed them many times, as have others. Even a sighting my wife and I had during the day on 9-11-2001 in otherwise one of the nations most busy airspace's with 3 international airports.

    After looking at the video once again, this doesn't (IMHO) appear to me as an open and shut case of a UFO sighting (CE1). First off, the object is quite distant. Secondly, the videographer fails to maintain a still camera perspective (i.e. a lot of jostling of the image). I think that this is compounded by his excitement (you can detect his quick breathing) and that has affected his ability to remain calm. Also, the object tracks slowly from right to left at the pace of a weather balloon / mylar balloon would in moderate wind conditions. There is nothing erratic or quick about this object. No darting. No sudden stops. Nothing to classify it as "unique". Granted, these are just my sober opinions / observations, and it doesn't make me a skeptic (I sincerely believe in UFO's), but each case must be looked at with a skeptical eye until it can undergo an investigation / further scrutiny. Looks poor for the UFO community when we "jump" to conclusions. Too many crackpots out there.

    I've seen the same thing in the middle of the day and at first I thought it was a ballon but it was going against the wind.

    I shot this video and have closer zoomed in photos of this object. What I seen with my own eyes and comparing to the photos I shot tell me this was not a balloon. I have taken the separate images that I took of this object and put them through rigorous enhancements and every time I can only come to one end. This Object was metallic and gave off a reflection comparable to a mirror ball. Direct links to still images.
    Check our my youtube for the stills.

    Contact me at rp38@ymail.com for questions. Location of video shooting Fort Gratiot, Michigan.
    Also the next day i took more pictures othe same type of object in another part of the sky. After looking at them I have determined that they are of the same type of object. Thank Eric for your support.

    It's an interesting few seconds but, coupled with the shaking, it doesn't amount to much. Also, those trees do not appear to be so distant that an effort to move around them and get more footage would have been impossible. The so-called "skeptics", whose demeanor is juvenile at best, never counter with anything more scientific than bizarre swamp-gas/Venus/weather balloon explanations, however, they can always refer to the best response they can manage "why is the visual evidence always shaky and out of focus...".

    At this point in the history of UFO's several short shaky seconds is, unfortunately, worse than nothing at all.
