Here are some of the comments that readers made.

Tamarac, Florida
Brent - In Tamarac, Florida, about 9:45pm as we where lighting off Fireworks, myself and several other people noticed two amber/orange color lights stantionary to the NNW direction. Seconds later, the two Lights what looked like miles apart from each other started moving in a SE direction slowly. until they disappeared about 4 to 5 minuites later to the SE of our Location. About 10 minutes later another amber/orange color light appeared where we saw the first two and seemed to go in the same pattern as the first two earlier. We did not believe that this sighting would be anytype of Commerical aircraft. I am glad that other people in different States have seen the same Lights around the same time 1000's of miles away. Now, I feel better knowing I'm not crazy or delusional.

Gwinn, Michigan

K - We were in a boat on Big Shag Lake in Gwinn, MI when we saw a Burning spot in the sky. It was about 9:45 or 10pm, and we were waiting for the fireworks to start. It went from red to orange to yellow and back again. It had no smoke trails. We looked at it through binoculars at it, and it seemed to have no identifiable shape, then the burning went out and a black dot hovered in its place for a while. The whole thing happened over 7 or 8 minutes. There were 10 people that saw this at the same time after we asked around.

Harrison Township, Michigan
Zeke - We saw these things as well in Harrison Twp, MI about 3-4 miles away from Selfridge ANGB. We saw 4 glowing orange-red balls moving east to west. I don't know, a couple of friends said they were those stupid Chinese lanterns and said a guy down the street was launching them. I have not gone down to ask them yet if that is what they were doing.

Nebraska
Mel - After most fireworks were done, my family was sitting around a fire pit when they saw 2 separate glowing ball like objects in the sky. I was driving there from work shortly after 11:15pm and I saw one of them. These objects were definitely higher than fireworks. They witnessed their third "glow ball" and I witnessed my second at their house around midnight. We got my nephew's high powered telescope (can see mountain ridges on the moon) but never saw another "UFO" after that. If you can imagine a hotair balloon going at a faster speed and staying in a strait line, that is what we saw. It made no noise. It did not blink. It was a cloudy sky and it was above the clouds. They traveled from northish to southish but seemed to curve with the sky. Hard to explain, wonderful to see.
Mel - That was in Nebraska. Forgot to mention that, sorry.

VanBuren, Arizona
Kristen - My husband and I saw one orange glowing light move across the sky in Van Buren, Ar. on july 4th. We watched it for a few min. until it faded out of sight. Our neighbor, Will, posted above, also saw it. I don't know what it was, but would love to know.

Long Island, New York
buffy - 3 of us saw 7 fireballs fly across the sky and then just fade into nothing on July 4, 2009, 9pm-930pm. They flew only during the fireworks and were bright orange/reddish/yellowish. one at a time, a few minutes apart. they seemed to start northewest and travel south east. location, long island, ny.

Central Oklahoma
Glenn - I guess it's fair to say that Chinese lanterns have finally reached America en masse. I saw one myself here in central Oklahoma on the night of the 4th. They are fireworks people. Just different than you've seen before. I am no skeptic, I believe that UFOs are real, but these orange/red slow moving orb reports are ridiculous. If you think back, they were most likely moving with the wind. As a veteran UFO researcher, I take most 4th of July sightings with a box of salt.

Unknown location
no bull - ok no bull, didnt want to say anything to anyone, and i havnt, in mesa az on july 4th i noticed a black sphere moving east to west,in the north sky, too fast for a heli, and too round for a plane.

Toledo, Ohio
jason - my 2 freinds n i seen a bright orange light that was a perfictly round moving from i think north west 4 about 2 to 3 minits then it stoped in hoverd 4 about 2.4 mins!!then it started to fade away as if it was travaling farther away till we couldnt c it any more!!IM VARY GLADE THAT ATHER PEOPLE CN IT!IV CEEN STUFF BEFOR BUT NEVER HAD SOMEONE WIT NISS IT ASO LEDALONE THIS MANEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jason - AND THAT WAS IN SOUTH TOLEDO,OHIO
jason - AND THE TIME MY WAS 10;18 PM!!!!!!!!

Angola, Indiana
Lake-Goer - Angola,IN 20090704 2300ish Same as most everyone in the Midwest... One flickering/hovering fiery object in the North West Sky(definitely North West of I-69) 10 people I know verified with me Likely in the Thermosphere

Mt. Vernon, Indiana
Davetta Givens - Mt. Vernon,IN. On July 4,2009 our family was lighting fireworks. When our 9 yr. old grandson said look at that. A large red-orange ballshaped light coming over the trees. We thought is was a firework gone awry. It then kept on a slow, straight line heading north My grandson hae photos on my phone but I dont know how to send them.
Davetta Givens - mY HUSBAND IS A bELIEVER now!!!!!

Macomb Township, Michigan
Angie - Ya'll have no idea how glad I am that you are telling everyone what ya'll saw because my sister-in-law and I saw the same thing Rose saw on the 4th of July. We talked to so many people and nobody saw it. We were at 26 Mile Road and Hayes Road in Macomb Township, Michigan. I had seen it a little earlier but it wasn't completely dark out yet and all of the fireworks were going off so I didn't pay it much attention. At that time it was going in a straight direction at the same speed. But, when I saw it an hour later, around 10:30pm, going the opposite direction, I started watching it and pointing it out. It was really bright white-yellow with a reddish-orange glow at the top. It was about 6 times larger than a plane and pulsating. Then it stopped and took a 90 degree turn and moved some more and stopped again and then started moving again, but slower and then it just slowly faded in the middle of the sky.

Kokomo, Indiana
Le Ann D - My Family and I were coming home from an outing on July 4th and saw people on the side of the road looking up and our daughter said what are those things in the air, they were 12 orange disk in z formation flying over Kokomo In... no sound then they disappeared one at a time , everyone was trying to get a piture of them it was about 10:30pm.

Chesterfield, Michigan
Rose - my husband saw it first in the sky around 10pm on july 4th to the west & we are ontop of selfridge airforce base here in chesterfield Michigan. anyway at first it looked like a glowing fireball but then it moved to the side going south then stop on the dime & just sat there & then it went up & down & then sat there again & then going north west away from us & disappeared for good. It did look like a hotair balloon on fire when it came toward us BUT nothing made by man that I know of can fly yet like this did NO WAY.. I never believe there was UFO"S before july fourth but now I do & it is somthing my husband & I & our kid's will remember forever.. p.s. about an hour later we did see a selfridge helicopter go that same way,And we watch plan's fly right over our home all the time & never has anything like this come out of selfridge.......

San Diego, CA
Big Daddy Oso - I live in San Diego and I also saw the red lights in the sky while waiting for the fireworks to start in Spring Valley. They were just south southeast of the 125 and 54 junction at about a 65 - 70 degree angle. There were 3 red lights in a triangle like pattern and a 4th red light slightly offset from the other 3. I did not see a 5th red light though.

Maer Harbor, Michigan
Morgan - Around 12:30 a.m. my family and I(there were 5 of us) leaving belle maer harbor near selfridge air base in Michigan after seeing their yearly firework show.Traffice is always a mess leaving the marina and we were at almost a stand still right outside of the marina when I spotted this red/orange like objest moving at a constant speed across the sky. I pointed it out to the rest of my family and we all stared in awe. None of us could figure out what it was. It moved from right to left then stopped, and hovered for a few seconds. Then it stopped completley, and took off straight into the air until it disappeared. My uncle suggested that it could be a ballon like object, but ballons are not capable of stopping mid air.
Morgan - Why isn't any of this on the news? Selfridge would have for sure seen this, being that it was basicly in their back yard...HELLO?!

Washington
tigersoul - Hey Roger, We were the Washington sighting you have listed - 11 photos, no video turned out - Drop me an email and I'll send you the photos as well as more filtering effects like I did before with some of the images- Best regards as always, Jaackie

Langhorne, Pennsylvania
Frederick Lutz - On July 4th 2009 around 9pm or 930pm me and my two kids were out side of our apartment watching fire works. When at the same time we both saw what we couldn't explane. A round redish ball of light crossing the sky. The sun was just going down.It traveled pretty slow under the clouds. It's redish glow was a soft shade. We both couln't beleive what we were looking at.We live in Langhorne P.a. It traveled across the sky at a steady pass, coming from the sun going towards the west.I wish I hade my camera on me.This is something that me and my kid will share forever...

East Hampton, Connecticut
Jerry - I am from East Hampton, Connecticut. At around 10pm a group of us (15 of us) all saw an orange orb come out of the north at below cloud level and was moving very fast going towards the south. There was no noise and no blinking lights. This was not an airplance and all of us were at a loss. I have never seen anything quite like this. The only thing I have seen move this fast in the sky was the Internation Space Station. If anyone else in CT has seen this please contact me at J.Cloutier99@yahoo.com.

San Jose, California
Craig - I live in San Jose, Ca and saw what I thought was a hot air balloon on fire and it kept heading westward .When it was first spotted it was coming from the NorthEast and climbed steadily upward.I can say 100% of the time I would brush these sightings off as something cooks believe in, but this time I saw it myself. Not sure what it was ,but I would like to know .

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Yailyn - My mom ran inside from walking my dog Max around 9:30 screaming for me to run outside and look. By the time I went outside I only saw a cluster of four objects that looked like stars in a distance but unlike stars they did not flicker and in an instant they were gone. One after the other left. My mom said as she walked Max she saw at least 15-20 orange lights form what seemed like a constellation like formation. She said these lights were beautiful and hovered low and stayed in place. Some objects she says were actually moving from their positions. This occurred in Bethlehem PA on Fourth of July 2009. I couldn't help but to google what she had witnessed to see if anyone else stepped forward with a similar eye witness account. Last night at 1 am there were only two other people that reported witnessing these lights, and I was surprised to see more people come forward in such a short amount of time. I wonder why the news isn't following this story ?

Nassau County, New York
buffy - 3 adults saw 7 fireballs fly across the sky in nassau county, ny, approx. 9pm,,,1 every few minutes,,,also during the fireworks displays. they just faded away at the end of their path. very creepy!

Florida
Shirl - I saw one up close in Florida some yrs ago. It was scary. It was just hovering above the pines and we drove right under it on the road. It was round, had big square windows accross with hazy foggy light inside. What are they and why can't someone get a good picture?

Evansville, Indiana
tawyne b. - evansville, indiana. me, my 2 daughters, my granddaughter and my husband were sitting on my back deck...lighting fireworks. my oldest daughter yelled for us to look up in the sky and there was a weird orangish-reddish object moving...not real high in the sky. i thought it was a flaming part of a firework floating in the sky. but we all watched it and it wasnt. we watched it until we couldnt see it anymore. i have never seen anything like it before. it was almost pulsating orange and looked to be on fire....very werid! and it sounds so much like the sightings above! i checked the internet to see if there was any other sighting of it in evansville and found none.

Van Buren, Arkansas
Will - This was also seen over Van Buren Arkansas .

Western Washington
KieferSkunk - Interesting. A group of us at our place in Western Washington saw the lights as well. At first I thought they were signal flares, given the orange, flaming colors, but they were moving too erratically. I THINK we saw four - not sure because I'd run inside to get a pair of binoculars. They all appeared to move in roughly the same path - to our view, they moved up from the horizon, hovered, moved right, then left, then right again, then began to move downward as they started fading.

LaPorte, Indiana
Megan - On July 4, 2009 at about 10:00 pm my family and I were on our boat on a lake in LaPorte Indiana on the Upper part of Fish Lake. As we were watching fireworks someone looked over to the right and saw a balloon shaped object with a red glowing light inside. At first we thought it was just a balloon with something glowing in it but when it kept hovering over land in one direction and slowly went down into a tree and came back out of the tree we knew it was not just a balloon. It kept moving in a hovering sort of way towards the left and in about in 5 minutes its reddish light turned off and it moved up into the clouds, after that we didn't see it any more. That was a 4th of July I will always remember!

Minneapolis, Minnesota
Rusty - Minneapolis Minnesota a group of us saw three glowing orbs moving towards us from the NW heading South and out of sight. The orbs were yellow orange, uniform in size and flying spaced out in a line following the same trajectory on an arc pattern. One friend is ex air force and was very excited to see it!

Buffalo, New York
Cynthia-marie - My Daughter in law and 2 other people beside myself were watching fireworks and saw the 3 orange tri shaped object in Buffalo NY. I have seen them in Buffalo before.

Suburbana San Diego, California
Marmullea - Now I am convinced. I was among at least 20 other adults and kids last night who saw the spectacular appearance of three red lights in the clear sky. These lights were moving in a deliberate pattern and formation, and didn't match any earthly description that I know of. We live in a suburb of San Diego.

Location unknown
Raoul V - This is getting exciting. I stayed up half the night watching UFO videos being posted on YouTube. There were close to thirty from all over the world, mostly the US. I found it very interesting how the general public is reacting to these as kind of a matter of fact and look kids another UFO. What ever is happening is happening in a big way. Thanks Roger for all your time and effort.

Just for the record - I can't speak for any other witnesses except our group, but that was not a Chinese Lantern that we saw. We discussed it in detail as we watched it for over three minutes - What we saw stayed on a smooth, horizontal course, flashed a very bright light at predictable intervals, and was a solid sphere/oval shape. This was a craft of some kind - One none of us had ever seen before.

This is just an update to what we saw on the evening of July 4th 2009 in Harrison Twp, MI.
My last post did not give much detail.
A group of us (about 10-15 people) were watching fireworks that were being set off on the next street over.
The fireworks were over and I and a few others went back into the house.
Maybe 10 minutes later the people outside were saying "Come out and look at this" and "What the hell is that?"
We went back out and observed 3 glowing reddish-orange lights to the west of our house that had passed over before we went out.
Someone said "Here comes another one" and we turned to the east toward Lake St Clair and there was another one moving at a speed that I would guess would be that of a small plane.
It passed directly over us, I did not hear any sound at all. I would say that the distance between the 3rd and 4th object to be roughly 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile.
Apparent size was of a nickel at arms length.
I did not see them change direction or hover.

Zeke, I live at 22 mile rd and romeo plank road right near you. Although your sighting wa in 2009, I have seen the same thing several times since may of 2011. The most recent was last night on 7/14/11. I was sitting in the house when it caught me eye out the window. I went out side to get a closer look as it went right over my house heading from east to west. It was the same glowing orange ball of fire that I have seen on 3 or 4 different occasions. It was lower than I had seen before, maybe a few hundred feet or so. It moved at a slow but steady pace and had no sound whatsoever. It lasted for about 7 to 8 min and then dissapeared to the west. I know I am not crazy, but what did I see? My wife has seen it as well. Being this close to Selfridge air base, don't they see it on radar or somthing. I would expect them to send some fighter jets to check it out. I am close enough to the base to hear them take off but never heard anything.

By the way, to the editor.
The other poster that said they were at Belle Maer Harbor, that is not a city, it is a marina here in Harrison Twp, MI.
It is about 5 miles from my location.
Several of my neighbors that witnessed this with me are dead set on these Chinese lanterns being the cause of this sighting.
They claimed that they saw these objects rising from behind the trees on the next street over, which is where the fireworks were and launched by the same people.
The object that I personally observed pass over did not come from that direction but it seemed to come from over the lake.
I did not observe it rising from behind the trees.
So I do not know what to make of this at all.
I have lived my entire life near Selfridge ANGB and it was not an aircraft from there, but judging from the flight path of the objects, personnel from the base must have seen them as well.
I want to question the people on the next street about the lanterns but I am reluctant to do so.

What most of you saw was not a "UFO" but the international space station , making rare multiple apperances over the United States. I witnessed it last night, and it was bright. As bright as Venus during sunsets. The fly-bys began on the 4th of July. You can find more information at the redorbit website. Redorbit dot com

I can appreciate what you are saying but what I saw was not the ISS.
They were in the atmosphere just a few hundred feet up.

Why all the UFO sightings on the 4th of July? I know why, I watch the skies almost every night, at lease for a few minutes to hours. Except on bad weather days. I'm humored by all the reports that are coming in. I figured this would happen. Fire works helped bring everyone's eyes to the sky. UFOs are more common than we are lead to believe. So People just need to look at the skies as often and they will see UFOs. I live in Salt Lake City. After a few months of observation, I pretty much know the time of night they are usually around. Star like ones are common(Orange colored). If they stop and disappear, keep watching that area. Later they will light up as they take off again! Get you a good pair of 10 x 50 binoculars with 376 or better field of (vision) view. A few hours every night and MUFON will ask you to stop reporting, even with or without pictures.

I'm from Long Island, NY and around 9 pm my family and I were outside (about 25-30 of us) lighting fireworks and we saw reddish-orange orbs flying above us. someone mentioned that they were balloons on fire but i dont think balloons can fly that high and that far of a distance. There were 3 orbs.

    Respectfully, Sgt. Carter -

I checked the NASA site and the ISS flew over us an hour and a half AFTER our sighting, according to the time table that was on their page and two of our group that did indeed spot the ISS - almost to the minute when Nasa said it would be there (I saved the data from that time frame) - ISS Sat Jul 04/11:39 PM < 1 (less than 1 minute)- The first sighting we had was about ten times larger, and in a different direction of the sky than the ISS was when it showed, and much different in shape, color, speed, and action. Also, the ISS, according to NASA, was to be visible for less than 1 minute over our neck of the woods, and our sighting was for 3 and a half minutes. Good of you to point it out to those that hadn't known about it.

We saw it also in Plymouth, MA. What we saw though was a single orange light, not blinking, that went in a straight line across the sky. Probably about 15-20 minutes later we saw it again doing the same exact thing, same direction. We actually have a picture of it, although all you can see is just an orange dot. For some reason too it looks dimmer in one of the pics although it didn't appear to dim/brighten when we were watching it. I have them on photobucket but I can't add the link to my comment. :-(

We spotted a orange glowing thing also on the 4th of July big fireworks show here in Bay City, MI. For 4 years now UFOs have been spotted on this day. They watch whats going up in the sky and thats why people are seeing them.

Hey, Michelle. Can confirm that several years ago in Alpena we saw the same darned thing at the July 4th fireworks. A big orange ball of light hovering near where the fireworks were going off, and then it was just gone. People all around us were buzzing about the "UFO", even my police officer father.

My family and I were in Central City, NE when we saw a fire like ball floating above the pine trees. We thought it was something on fire from a firework nearby, but my Uncles (who were in a different town) mentioned in conversation they saw something weird in the sky, matching the description of what my parents saw. My parents called me immediately to tell me that my uncles had seen the same thing. Came to this website and now know that we weren't the only ones who viewed this. We only saw one, not multiple as others on this site did, but we also had cloudy skies. Too weird!

Today on July 9 th around 930 pm I was driving with my boyfriend to our friends in mchenry il on 120. To the right of us we saw three orange lights in the sky two were dimmer. The other one was alot brighter then the other two. The brightest one we paid closer attetion too. It stayed still in the sky for awhile got super bright, then got dimmer as the other two weere flying to the left then turned completly turned around to the main one,and the brighest one turned into the same as the other two. One took off by itself as the other two slowly took off pretty much right on eachother. I have had seen other stuff before too but nothing like this. The werid thing is four other people that I know that saw the same thing. The two others was last night and the other two tonight except the lighting was different she told me it was more gray. It was werid how there was two other sightings of the same thing not just the one that me and my bf witnessed tonight

We just saw the ISS go over us a few minutes ago to compare to what we saw on the 4th - It was beautiful, but completely unlike what we saw on the 4th, just as the two of our group that saw it that night said - This was a pretty clear white light, bigger than a star and moved from the West to the East. What we saw was much larger, red/orange, lower in the sky, and traveled from South to West as well as pulsing with an amber light every 2-3 seconds. I would suggest anyone who is not sure, check the NASA site for when the Space Station will be over your area and compare what you saw before.

Does anyone not see the pattern here? All glowing orange/red/yellow balls? I too saw the same thing, and fortunately I was in the direction it was coming to. They are little floating lanterns that when lit, are rised by the hot air from the flame, that emits a glowing light (red,orange-ish, or yellow). These are not alien spacecrafts, but true, I thought it looked bizarre also from afar. Sorry to disappoint everyone, but what you saw was a part of the celebration.

I live in Buffaslo, NY. On
    July 4th 2009 at approx. 10:30pm
my mother and I witnessed a strange occurance. We both stared at the sky in total disbelieve and amazement. We saw a bright orange glow in the distance that was at a standstill for about 2-3 mins. The shape was or seemed to be completely circular and what ever it was seeemed to just hover over that area without movement. It then proceeded to slowly vanish. About 1 min. later, in the same direction, another bright orange glow appeared. This time only for a brief moment then quickly vanished. I am a skeptic when it comes to UFOs and other supernatural beings. If anyone else saw what we saw and has a logical explanation, we would really like to hear from you. Thanks!!!!

Just seen over Mishawaka, Indiana. I saw five of them, and there was no way that these were planes or fireworks. I'm not going to be a moonbat and scream "ALIENS", but unless this is some freak natural phenomena or a very elaborate hoax, I can't think of anything else to call it.

My girlfriend and I were enjoying the fireworks display in my subdivision.(located on Indian Park Dr in Murfreesboro, TN)

There were a lot of fireworks being set off by a lot of people who live around me. But this was CERTAINLY NOT a firework. A bright orangish circular light appeared, moving in a straight line above the apartment complex, then made a 90 degree turn until moving slowly out of sight. We both looked at each other with the same expression and said what in the world is that? My girlfrend said she thought it looked like a plane on fire. But it looked like it was moving too slow and made no airplane or helicopter noise. I was sorta freaked out to say the least and my girlfriend was too. We continued to watch the fireworks and about 10-15 minutes later, the same light re-appeared! I told my girfriend to keep it in her line of sight and I ran into my house and grabbed some binoculars. While looking through the binoculars, I really couldn't make out any more detail other tha

I told my girfriend to keep it in her line of sight and I ran into my house and grabbed some binoculars. While looking through the binoculars, I really couldn't make out any more detail other than it was a big orangish glowing light moving slowly in the sky. The light finally started to dim. Only when the light was out completely, was I then able to see the actual full shape and size of the object. This sent chills through my body. It was a deep dark, much larger black sphere, circular in shape. The actual size of the sphere made the orange light look small in comparison to the full shape of the object. I watched it through the binolculars until it went behind the rooftops of the apartments across the street. Entire incident lasted from around 9:15pm - 9:40pm CST approx.

Myself, my wife, four friends and a friends parents saw what appeared to be a fiery ball traveling east to northwest at about 10pm in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Then a couple of minutes later another one appeared from the west going east then stopped and hovered for several minutes before going north and disappearing.

We observed a very odd orange light this forth of July, (2010). We first spotted this UFO around 9 pm and attempted to film it but it disappeared within a minute and a half of being first observed. Later that night we spotted another orange glowing orb. I was able to get the video camera and record about 2 minutes of this UFO. Four of us observed the orb and while I filmed the girls were able to get binoculars on the object. It was nearly stationary and far higher than the fireworks that were being launched. It did move extremely quickly for a moment and then froze again. It disappeared instantly after a little over 2 minutes of showing up the second time.

Me and my boyfriend saw it too. I live in Black Mountain N.C. outside of Asheville. Right when the fireworks stopped we left. We were driving. We saw 4 lights. 3 hovered and one moved vertically. I have never seen anything like it before. We watched for about 5 minutes. Then we got home and couldn't see it any longer because of the trees. Why isn't this in our local paper or on the news?
