One large fireball spotted by an Ohio witness from the 5th floor of the Westchester Medical Center on July 16, 2010, split into multiple pieces and appeared to form a diamond shape in the sky, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
"My second reaction was we were about to be bombed, then it separated into three pieces, the middle piece remained larger than the two pieces on either side," the witness stated.
The witness reports that each piece maintained an equal distance between the others.
"Then they disappeared and as fast as they went two came back and then two more appeared to form a diamond, then a fifth appeared on the bottom right. the two on the left and right disappeared and appeared lower, then bottom left light moved diagonally toward upper right. "
When the witness realized photos were bad taken through glass, he (or she) ran down five flights of stairs to get to the street, and then discovered that only two objects were left - and they quickly disappeared. The entire sighting lasted about 10 minutes.
Westchester Medical Center is in West Chester Township, Butler County, in the southwestern piece of Ohio, where the population is about 60,000.
The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Ohio MUFON State Director William E. Jones investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.
OH, July 16, 2010 - One big fire ball. MUFON Case # 24571.
I was up on the 5th floor of Westchester Medical center looking out the window toward 75north. All of a sudden I looked up and saw a HUGE fireball, My first reaction was maybe it was a small comet burning up.
My second reaction was we were about to be bombed, then it seperated into three pieces, the middle piece remained larger than the two pieces on either ide.
They all maintained equal distance from either as they spread apart. Then they dissapeared and as fast as they went two came back and then two more appeared to form a diamond, then a fifth appeared on the bottom right. the two on the left and right dissapeared and appeared lower, then bottom left light moved diagonolly toward upper right.
I tried to get my video camera on my droid to work but it wouldn't penetrate the window. I ran down five flights of stairs out the back door and as I turned the corner two were left litterally zipping back and forth and then they were gone as fast as they appeared.
This went on for atleast ten minutes.

I also witnessed these unexplained lights. I was exiting north bound on I-75 at the state route 63 exit (near Monroe, Ohio) when I observed the "fireball" in the roughly NW part of the sky. I at first thought it was a meteor or fireworks but the "pieces" of the fireball seemed to hover in the air for more than a couple of minutes. Then the lights formed a diagonal formation with some of the lights "winking" in and out, with the final two lower lights left. I was trying to pull into a gas station on SR 63 to get a good picture but they had disappeared by that time.
J Shaffer - if you have not done so, can you please file your report with Ohio MUFON - at mufon.com. I'm sure the Ohio MUFON staff would welcome a second witness to any sighting; and it sounds like you have some interesting details to add.
I witnessed the fireball also. It was about 9:50pm in the southwestern sky to the left of the moon. At first it looked like a meteor breaking up in the atmosphere with a fiery trail..Then it split apart into four or six evenly spaced trails of light. It reminded me of when the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds do the maneuver where they are in tight formation and then fan out.. Then the objects disappeared for a moment and then lit up one by one and lined up horizontally in the sky and hovered, four of them. I couldn't beleive my eyes so I ran to get someone else to see this. They maneuvered around some more, light appearing an disappearing, and then again they appeared one by one this time lined up vertically. They moved into the southwest sky and disappeared.. I am so glad that other people saw this!
I saw this exact thing tonight, July 17th, at around 9:50. I live in Liberty Township Ohio not too far from Monroe. At first I thought I was seeing a shooting star, but it was moving much slower than other shooting stars that I have seen. Then it split into 3 balls and they all dissappeared. then they all winked back on. I ran home to get my camera and my husband, son and I went out on our deck. We could still see 3 lights floating around, winking in and out. By the time I got my camera on and focused there was only one light, but I got it!
Hey Theresa, We saw the same thing you did. We were exiting 75 at Rt 73 at ~ 945pm and saw a portion of what you described... large, slow moving fireball split in two, then immediately each of the two pieces also split into two or more ... shortly after all but one piece burns out... significant meteor? or re-entry of piece of space junk? either way, very cool site.
At first I thought I was seeing a shooting star. Then it seemed like it was slowing down and then it split up into two or three other lights. I saw it in the sky when I was getting out of a restaurant in Union Center. I was facing south. I tried to make a video with my iphone but it didn't capture anything. Isn't there any way to find out what it actually was? Can anyone post a video or picture of it?
I can't believe what I saw as well. My sister and I were out in her backyard and saw what we thought was a shooting star! Then in front of our eyes it broke into 2 looking like a falling firework! Then from behind it there was 2 to 4 lights that kept turning on and off. I tried to take a video on my phone and got a little bit of the dancing lights at the very end!!! It was the most coolest thing ever!!!
I saw the same thing. I live in Loberty Twp. and saw the lights and thought they were fire works. When the lights seemed to hover longer than any fireworks, I began to wonder what I was looking at. They disappeared and than the lights reappeared in the formation of a diamond. Has there been any information on what the mystical lights were?
