An airline passenger on approach to Philadelphia reports watching a "silver sphere-shaped object approximately a thousand or so feet below" the plane at 8 p.m. EST on July 18, 2010, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The object was traveling in the opposite direction of the plane.
"It looked about the size of a volkswagen beetle," the witness stated. "There were no wings. It traveled in a straight course, without deviation. I watched the object cross my viewing region for only about 5 seconds."
The witness provided an illustration of the object in relation to the jet. No images or video were included in the public portion of the MUFON report.
The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Pennsylvania MUFON State Director John Ventre investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.
PA, July 18, 2010 - Sphere shaped object about the size of a volkswagen. MUFON Case # 24800.
While traveling in an airliner over the city of Philadelphia, PA, I was in a window seat, situated about 4 or 5 rows back from where the right wing protruded.
I was basically just looking down toward the ground. I can only assume our altitude was around 15000 ft, due to the fact that we had already been descending toward the airport.
It was around 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
The sun was beginning to set in the west, which was almost directly to my right, perpendicular to our path south toward the airport.
While looking down toward the ground, I noticed what looked to be a silver sphere-shaped object approximately a thousand or so feet below, traveling the opposite direction that our jet was traveling.
It looked about the size of a volkswagen beetle.
There were no wings. It traveled in a straight course, without deviation. I watched the object cross my viewing region for only about 5 seconds.
