Back on the scene, Missy Elliott attends BET Hip-Hop Awards

While missing in action, Missy Elliott has done a superb job convincing the music-entertainment industry her platform in music – wasn’t made for anyone else but her. At 2009’s BET HIP-HOP AWARDS hosted by Mike Epps last night in Atlanta; the iconic Producer/Songwriter/Rapper and CEO of ‘Respect M.E.’ clothing line, brought to the masses by Adidas was on hand for the star-studded event.

In true ‘Supa Dupa Fly’ fashion, the celebrity diva wore a glitzy black designer-ensemble (see photo) to cover up her new svelte figure. Elliott, none-the-less has been known for shock value over the decade in which her fans can attest to -- whether it’s her lyrics, weight-loss or her mega-million dollar music videos.

Over the summer, late-night viewers caught a cameo performance of Missy Elliott on David Letterman’s The Late Show with Singer, Ginuwine back in July; Elliott also casually appeared in the insanely fierce music video for Ciara’s 4th single from Fantasy Ride, “Work” in which Elliott sports a stunning new mohawk-mullet inspired look.

The first-time BET Hip-Hop Awards attendee, Missy Elliott has candidly been in the studio with Beaterator impresario, Timbaland among many other producers for her long-delayed release of Block Party, Elliott’s seventh studio release.

According to Elle magazine, back in June 2009 -- Elliott tells an interviewer "there are a lot of great collaborations on the record, but I can only give one away right now, and that’s Lil Wayne." Off the record as in Elliott’s side projects, expect future pairings with Jack Splash as reported, Nikki 16, Queen Latifah, Shaun Bless of Soul Diggaz, Jazmine Sullivan, K. Michelle, Fantasia and maybe a few guest appearances on the new upcoming BET reality TV-series, Monica: Still Standing.

In the meantime Über-MUSIC fans, please avoid giving other artists the side-eye for their lack of Elliott’s inventiveness. Just know once she returns from her five year hiatus, the international and multi-platinum selling artist will deliver a comeback that will even make Whitney Houston’s creative-team take notes.
