The Troops Aren't Coming Home

The Troops Aren’t Coming Home

It may seem counter-intuitive but by September of this year dovish Democrat Barack Obama will have actually sent more troops into combat than his hawkish predecessor George W. Bush.

How can this be?

After all, Barack Obama announced this month a phased withdrawal of all combat troops from Iraq by August 2010. (After the drawdown, a large force of as many as 50,000 troops — about one-third of what is there now — will remain with a new, noncombat mission: train Iraqis, protect U.S. assets and personnel and conduct anti-terror operations.)

But the time-line of the drawdown is back-loaded with the first US troops not scheduled to come home until this September – and even then our force in Iraq will only be reduced by 12,000.

At that point, approximately 135,000 US troops will still occupy the country. That’s the same number that invaded Iraq back in March 2003.

At the same time, Obama announced Friday he’s sending 21,000 more troops to Afghanistan and Pakistan – 17,000 combat troops plus another 4,000 to train Afghan forces and advise the Afghan government.

What this means is that under President Barack Obama the Global War on Terror is not winding down as many people expected. It is escalating.

We should all be ready for the human and economic consequences.

Can someone tell me why we are spending our last dollar restoring the world's infrastructures but letting our own go to pieces?
Can anyone tell me why it is our mission to tear them down, then spend the next 30 years rebuilding them?
Does anyone really believe they'll maintain democracy the minute we leave? They don't even fight their own wars, leaving it all to us. If they're not fighting for their democracy, why are we? Do they even want it?

While the united citizens of Nebraska fight the Red River with sandbags, has the sandman sold us down the river?

Democracy is not the reason the United States is illegally occupying Iraq. Democracy is merely a word used to justify violence to Americans. You want to know why we are there, ask the companies who are making the most money from this war.

How long before we reinstate the draft?
What if people no longer want to reup for the 8th time?
What if there are no longer 1000's to send?

If we start the draft, will we see protests like the 60's again?
I must say, there hasn't been much creative new sounds in music since those days.
It's been a long time since music matched a movement.

    For What It's Worth

    There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    There's battle lines being drawn
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
    Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
    Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, now, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

Just another lie from the Obama administration.

"I will not raise taxes on anyone who makes less than $250,000 a year."
Cigarette taxes went up yesterday and the majority of smokers make under $60,000 according to the CDC.

Can you tell me why you describe Barack Obama as "dovish Democrat Barack Obama"?

Obama said we needed "more troops" and a "strong defense," and, promised to go "finish the job in Afghanistan" throughout his campaign, and, he has always been committed to Africom, the U.S. Africa Command, and the expansion of U.S. military bases and troop levels in Africa.

Did you mean "perceived to be dovish"?

listen to the Christian radio stations, they will tell you what you dont hearany where else. Our government doesn't tell us what's up. Ask John Hagee, a Christian minister, he'll tell you what's up. basically, no one cares. bottom line. Look up the ACLJ who is fighting the ACLU everyday over BS.

Hopefully soon all of our troops will be brought home safe. The most important thing is that we remember they're over there risking their lives to defend our safety and rights. If our military leaders are urging the president not to pull out our troops, than we should probably take their advice. I understand the war is controversial, but it's a reality. There is no need to start a draft because we have brave men and women who are willing to opt-in to the military. If two presidents in a row things it's necassary for our troops to fight abroad, than we should support that effort. There is obviously a reason for it. The military takes the safety of the American people seriously and they risk there lives to defend us. I'm happy we will start to bring them home and hopefully one day we will be at peace. Right now, it's important to support our military and avoid using them as a political chess piece. One love.
