British jazz great Sir John Dankworth died Saturday morning at the age of 82 according to reports from the U.K. and confirmed by his family and management. Fans and celebrity Twitter users from the U.K. and the U.S. tweeted RIP's and remembrances of Dankworth's performances throughout the night following the announcement.

Jazz musician Jamie Cullum tweeted, 'Sir John Dankworth - a great man and one of our finest musicians and composers has died. Rest in peace sir.'

According to BBC reports, Dankworth died at the King Edward VII Hospital in London. Dankworth had been ill ever since he wrapped up a U.S. tour with his wife last October.
