Twitter responds to Vatican's Twilight damnation

Many Hollywood insiders often say that in show biz, "your nobody till somebody hates on you." The Twilight crew should feel validated this week. While Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, have been busy promoting the the release of Twilight around the globe, the Vatican has been busy preparing a statement condemning the movie. After reading the statement from the Vatican, Twitter got busy responding to the what it deemed to be the absurdity of it all.

According to news reports from ABC, CBS and Fox News, Monsignor Franco Perazzolo, of the Pontifical Council of Culture made the following statement: "The theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element. It is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office. This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern."

Tweets varied from laughter to mockery and anger after the statement became public.  Twitter user @LizaExpatiating tweeted, "Why does the Vatican have an opinion about Twilight? Are there no bigger issues of moral depravity than a stupid teen vampire book?"

Tweets at the time of writing:

@notvforchickens "I cant believe the Vatican is slamming Twilight this is hilarious, Hypocrisy."

@allythenerd "Is it bad to find it funny the Vatican is saying Twilight is for devil worshipers? lol."

@Se7enSyn "Ha, the Vatican condemed Twilight, finally me and the and the catholics agree on something."

@stugots23 "So the Vatican condemned that new Twilight movie. Maybe i should give it a once over. Pro-protestant."

@chrisberez "The Vatican condemns "New Moon", but not for any rational reason such as the fact that "Twilight" sucks."

@knitmeapony "Hahaha: "Vatican condemns Twilight as "morally deviant". Because only sickos would even think about drinking human blood."

@LizaExpatiating "Why does the Vatican have an opinion about Twilight? Are there no bigger issues of moral depravity than a stupid teen vampire book?"

I'm sure Catholics feel stupid now that the Vatican has spoken out about this. No wonder their numbers keep diminishing with idiots like this at the top. Isn't there some priest sexually assaulting someone for them to comment on?

The Vatican are just a bunch of old men who have lost their touch with the real world and real people. I doubt if any of them have read the books or seen the movies. They are quick to judge when Jesus reportedly said "Do not judge others, lest ye judge yourselves" - or something like that. It just shows the hypocrisy of an archaic system. If they can't see the "love" and yearning of "soul" in these books and movies, then they're blind. And, why in the world would they take time to comment on this?

P.S. Remember when many of the priests of the Catholic church condemned Harry Potter because of "wizards," etc.? Same thing. It is all really ridiculous.

It used to be that if it was "Banned In Boston" it became an automatic read or watch....BTW that condemnation always came from the archdiocese there and many Catholics felt the need to check it out.....works for me

Ok, so I'm getting into my Twilight world here, but they're condeming a story about people (vampires, ok) who strive to do the right thing and go against their nature to not kill and murder. Who promote that you don't have to accept things the way they are. That the guy tells the girl they have to be married before he'll even do anything but kiss her, ohh that's certainly unexceptable! I mean really, are there not worse books and movies out there? Reality shows, now there's something scary!I could go on and on.......
