Twitter history was made this week when the first United States Presdential tweet was posted. President Obama has a Twitter page at @BarackObama. The White House has a Twitter page as well but the first presidential post was sent via the Red Cross Twitter page.
President Obama visited the Red Cross Disaster Operation Center in Washington on Monday, January 18th. During the visit he noticed an employee sending out a tweet announcing his arrival. The President quickly accepted a request to send the tweet. "I just tweeted. The first time..," the President said afterwards.
The first Presidential tweet:
- @stefaniebainum, 'Just started a twitter account! My first tweet comes on the same historic day of the first tweet from a President of the United States.'
- @dzimmerman, 'Not sure Mr. President whether pushing a button to send a tweet really counts...'
- @Refugees, 'Thrilled Red Cross were able to get President Obama to send a tweet.'
On Tuesday, January 19th a Twitter account was opened in the name of Bill Gates. Was it really him? Photo/The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation...
