Controversy reared it's head on Twitter after the 2009 43rd Annual Country Music Awards (CMA) in Nashville named Taylor Swift "The Female Vocalist of the Year".
The show was popular among country fans that use Twitter. Those viewers were not shy about sharing their opinion over the Taylor Swift win for "Best Female Vocalist". Swift's win quickly made it into the Twitter trending topics list. Trending topics can change moment to moment.
The tweets right after the show revealed either a strong support for Taylor or strong opinions that she wasn't ready for such an award. Most against the award felt that Taylor was a talented entertainer but not gifted as a vocalist.
Taylor made headlines when Kanye West embarrassed her at the MTV's Video Awards show earlier this year. "I want to thank everybody in the room tonight for not running up on the stage during my speech." Swift joked with the CMA crowd during her acceptance speech.

I'm sorry to hear that. There is lots of great country music out there. You may have given up on the CMA but hopefully you will stay with country. Darius Rucker the former lead man of Hootie and the Blowfish does a great job singing country.
Taylor Swift winning Female Vocalist & Entertainer are a slap in the face to the truly talented singers & entertainers in the Country genre. Anybody who saw her 2 performances last night(why did she get 2 by the way?) or her live shows had to have seen that she can't sing. Her opening number was ridiculous. And that second number was so phoney. Yeah, she can write a song, about the same subject over & over again. Let her stick to songwriting. It's sad that the CMAs seem to have bowed to the teen audience. I lost all respect for them last night.
I believe that it's time for the CMA's to change with the times. I think that the CMA's should have a Pop County category along with a Classic Country category.

Taylor is very talented, but she should NOT have received female Vocalist of the Year. As she gets older, maybe her voice will get better, but my God...all of the other females in that category could sing their hearts out! At times Taylor has a hard time carrying a tune and it is OBVIOUS! The best part of the night was when DARIUS RUCKER won BEST NEW ARTIST. HE IS AWESOME...I LOVED HIM BEFORE AND I AM GLAD TO SEE HIM GETTING RECOGNIZED FOR THE GREAT ARTIST THAT HE IS.
how can anyone begin to say a thing about Taylor Swift, atleast she writes her own music, sells millions of records, and was always country from the start. Darius Rucker is a joke, he switch to country because his career ended in pop music. He was given songs to sing, because he don't write his own. It was the politically correct thing to do to give him an award. Jamey Johnson should have got "New Artist of the year" along with his "Song of the year", They kinda go hand in hand.

Hank, do you realize that Taylor Swift remixes her music to fit the Pop radio format? Yeah, she started out as country with her first song, but then she started remixing her music for the Pop stations. If you've ever seen one of her concerts, you would realize she is the farthest thing from Country and that she can't sing a note. That performance on TV wasn't bad just because of a bad sound system. She's just plain a bad singer. This is a girl who started out opening for the Jonas Brothers. Her management team knew what market to go for & wasn't country. And do yo also know that she & Kanye West apparently share the same management company? What a coincidance considering what happened between the 2 at the MTV awards. There was a lot of talk of that episode being a set up. And Taylor isn't alone in writing her own music. Many country artists do that as well. And they can actually sing & do more than flip their hair around. I do think either ZBB or Jamey should have won.

It is ridiculous that Taylor won anything at all. She can't sing. She is a good writer that appeals to teeny boppers!! It is crazy that she said she opened for all the the people in the category this year or last year, and yet she won. FYI CMA's if you are opening for peoople still, you do not deserve entertainer of the year. Fearless tour started late in the season! How can you put her in a category with Kenny, Keith, George and Brad, let alone all the people who have won it.....Garth, Reba, Dixie Chicks, Shania??? She is not even close!!
Taylor Swift can't sing. She doesn't have the vocals but she's a great songwriter, though. Very surprised that she won Female Vocalist of the Year.
On any given night in Nashville at any of the numerous writer's nights you can find 10 girls at each one that can sing better than Taylor, hell, most of the singer/songwriters are better than anyone who performed last night. ZBB and Jamey Johnson were the most on pitch and real of the night. I'm seriously considering purposefully singing off key when I perform around town so I can get a record deal.
I enjoy Taylor Swift's songs on the radio and I cringed when I watch her live on TV. Gosh those horrid performances have been consistent one after another - out of tune performances and often needing the background / backdrops special lightings to distract the actual performance. And to win Female Vocalist of the Year??? I can imagine heads shaking upon the announcement of her name. An utter embarrassment to country music.
Taylor Swift should not have won female vocalist of the year. She is not at all a good performer and apparently can't carry a tune on stage. I believe Carrie Underwood should have won. She is an awesome performer by far and knows how to carry a tune! Taylor Swift is not hardly even country, she tries to make her songs pop. As all of you know she is on pop stations and she is growing farther and farther away from country. By the way Darius Rucker is a great country music singer! Who cares if he started out as a pop singer? If he can sing country, then he can sing country. Anyone can try to talk country, but if you can sing it, that's one thing.
Taylor Swift should have never won such awards in country music. She is not that country and her vocals are terrible. What the heck is going on down there in Nashville?? You trying to play to the teeny boppers. Let's get back to our roots. There are some new comers out there that really deserve recognition. But pay some due here folks.
She did not open for JB. She only made an appearance for their 3D concert film. I think she has gotten a LOT of mileage out of that relationship. It's a shame she has been so rude in return. Unfortunately, I am no longer a Taylor fan because I am just so turned off by a year of Joe bashing. Makes me not like her as a person. Good luck Taylor Lautner - you're gonna need it. She's proving herself to be one of those psychotic ex-girlfriend types. She should just do her career thing and stop behaving so immaturely and elevating herself at someone else's expense. Poor Taylor, always a victim, eh? Perhaps karma will pay her a visit in the future.

I love country music and I ususally love the CMA's and the ACM's, it's my yearly highlight. I was dissappointed this year with the venue. At first glance I like Taylor Swift, that Tim McGraw song was cute. However, to hear she changes her mix to go to the pop music crowd does not make her Entertainer of the Year in Country Music, or Female Vocalist of the Year WOW!!! I love country music and will always remain a loyal fan. However, I may not watch the CMA's next year if it's going to be a joke again. I hope the ACM's have learned something from this and they don't make the same mistake. The CMA's this year was a complete joke and when watching Taylor Swift's opening act I thought I was watching MTV, not the classy country music awards I have become fond of.
I don't know about all of you but I have 2 teenage daughters in my house and 3 teenage nieces. These girls love country music and pop music and they especially love Taylor Swift because she fits both categories. Michael Jackson only made the nominations because they are based on record sales. He died and his old music became a hot commodity. He has not produced any new music in several years. And, really, I have not heard anything about Eminem since my sons moved out and they don't listen to him anymore anyway. Taylor Swift is everywhere. Turn on the radio you will hear her within minutes if you are listening to pop or country stations which are the main stream of the music industry.
Taylor deserves her award that music fans voted on.
