Twitter buzz: SNL newbie Jenny Slate drops the F-bomb

Pretty Saturday Night Live (SNL) newcomer Jenny Slate is considered to be a comic's comic. Accustomed to the theater and stand up comedy stage where language often goes uncensored, Jenny let it loose by dropping the F-bomb on her first night on SNL.

The F word is still not kosher to use on national television and was most likely unplanned by the show. Slate was performing a skit with cast member Kristen Wiig and Transformers star Megan Fox when the expletive occurred.

Within a few minutes after the slip Twitter was in full grapevine mode.  SNL skyrocketed to the top of the trending topics list (twitter buzz). Not known for letting 140 characters get in the way of sharing their opinions on everything from lunch to advances in tech gear, Twitter users could not wait to tweet or post about the goof up (@ in front of the Twitter handle indicates who the tweet is from).

@damwgodrey "Anyone else notice the F-Bomb on SNL tonight?"

@secretseasons "Can you get fired after being in only 1 SNL sketch? #jennyslate #f-bomb #snl Zut alors!"

@AddieC "Now the snl f-bomb fiasco is all over twitter. this cant be good...i wonder what lorne thought when it happened."

@kaspershow "New SNL cast member Jenny Slate drops an F-bomb during her skit, the look on her face is priceless."

@PopEater "F-bomb on your first night?! Jenny Slate, you're in for some serious Lorne Michaels stink-eye action. #SNL/I heard that, too! LOL."

@RobViccars "Bad first day at the office...dropping the F bomb on live national television.Tough start for SNL newbie."

As I posted on the Radio-Info.com National TV board at 11:54:51 PM PT:

They must have done the sketch over after the live show (or used the dress rehearsal version) and inserted it into the subsequent Mountain and left coast feeds, as it ran sans F-bomb in Phoenix a few minutes ago.

I believe KPNX Mesa airs the Mountain Time Zone feed (delayed one hour) rather than live ET/CT feed delayed two hours. I say that because it always has the "recorded from an earlier live telecast" font at the top of the show.

Left coasters: let us know what you hear--or don't hear--when the sketch airs around 12:43-12:44 PT.

I saw it live and she obviously didn't do it on purpose. The skit contained about a hundred "frickin's" as part of the joke of being a biker chick. A lot of them were spaced just a couple words apart. Any one of the actresses on the stage at the time, could have let the F-bomb slip by accident. The skit was part "comedy thru rediculous repetition", and it just happened to be the newbie. Lorne Michaels is a smart man, as well as SNL viewers...we all realize it was a mistake, nothing more. The dangers of broadcasting live. Ask Janet Jackson's boob. I believe there was even a recent Supreme court case about the F-bomb on TV after Bono dropped one on an awards show, I think. They determined context dictates the penalty, if any. Give the girl another chance...anyone could have done it...and it will happen again. Watch any football game on TV, and the microphones pick up crowd swears all the time. Its about time fowl language is deemed no longer a threat to America.

I hear you. Jenny Slate is a popular underground stand up comic in NYC. We love her. I'm sure this will not hinder her career.

Good to know Oldiesfan, that the bible thumpers won't be offended by the horrible language on TV at 12:45 am. Us right coasters have heard that word before.
