Like all things hip, the NY Anime Festival (NYAF) held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in midtown Manhattan was a trending topic or Twitter buzz within minutes of it's opening. Making it's way into many tweets or posts were eye-popping pictures of cosplay (costume play), through photo sharing Twitter applications like Twitpic.
The NYAF unites America and Japan in a love-fest of Anime screenings, Manga, video games, live-action Japanese cinema, fashion, Japanese pop culture and cosplay.
Festival participants engage in cosplay dressed as their favorite characters in Manga, a genre of Japenese comics and the stylized Japenese cartoons known as Anime.
Twitter cosplay fanatics let the rest of Twitter in on the fun:
- @EF Elmer "Final Fantasy cosplay group strikes a pose http://twitpic.com/j5wji"
- @kart21 "Cosplay Not just your nerdy pimpleface boy http://bit.ly/Pwggl"
- @ethics gradient "Arrived around 7 for #NYAF, caught...not much except the epic Cosplay Variety Show. I approve!"

According to a recent schedule and ticket update from NYAF, the festival times are Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. On Saturday the hall closes at 7:00 p.m. but discussion panels go on through 10:00 p.m. Saturday passes are now $45, Sunday passes are now $40, and Weekend passes are now $60.
Twitter is sure to continue it's weekend love affair with cosplay. Twitter users use a hash tag to represent a specific event and the NY Anime Festival is #NYAF.
