YARN features 'The Moon' poetry contest for teens

A new site designed for young writers, YARN will debut this winter, and to kick the site off with a bang, they’re asking for input from teens with a poetry contest inspired by New Moon:

• Theme of poem: The Moon (It does not have to be related to the Twilight series.)
• Deadline: Nov. 30
• Limit: 2 poems
• Tell us your contact info, and how old you are (you must be between 14 &18).
• Submit to poetry [at] yareview.net. Please write MOON in the subject line, and PASTE the poems into the body of the email.
• Winner will be the first writer to be published in YARN, the exciting new online literary magazine for YA lit.
• Winner will be announced in Facebook. Become a fan (from our homepage).
Don’t be alarmed by the lack of content- though a fledgling site, YARN is still gathering a comprehensive list of literary works. In fact, this is the best time for teens to submit pieces that speak to their heart. Aside from this poetry contest, a variety of submissions are being considered for inclusion as well. A basic overview:
Poetry: Please submit at least 3, and no more than 7, poems, totaling no more than 10 double-spaced pages.
Fiction: 6000 word limit. Please do not submit excerpts from longer works, like novels. The story should stand alone. Please double space your submission.
Essays: 3000 word limit. As with fiction, please do not submit excerpts from longer works. In this category, we welcome autobiographical essays, or reflective essays about events, people, or places. We do not welcome essays like those you might find on a college application, or those you might submit in a history or English class. Unless, of course, you want to write a parody of those forms. Again, double-space.

Encourage your teens to visit YARN and utilize the site as a whole. If your teen wins “The Moon” contest, let me know and I’ll be happy to feature you!
