How do any of those other than Obama and Gay Marriage qualify as a milestone? FAIL
sweet merciful crap. what a joke.
Twilight. Lady Gaga. Every highschooler in this country that's not smoking pot is a big FAIL.
how do gay marriage and obama qualify as milestones? maybe the legalization of gay marriage and the first black president, sure. but things aren't milestones. accomplishments are.
I would most certainly say that the first black President of our country and having 5 states legalize same-sex marriage are milestones, in much the same way that Rosa Parks refusing to go to the back of the bus and Harvey Milk becoming the first gay elected official were milestones.
Just more evidence that America is getting stupider with every passing generation.
I think Obama not having to show birth certificates and all other legal docs. should be a milestone, "The 1st President of America thats not American" Then the gay marriage crap, that was a milestone back when Ellen was on a sitcom, and so all together we have 5 FAILURES...no suprise thats our "changed" america! ::facepalm::
Gay marriage? Ugh, I hate this. The fact that our country is in a crippling recession and we're still talking about gay marriage just makes me sick. It's such a freaking non-issue.
Twitter? Yes. Absolutely. In the same way Facebook/Myspace were milestones. Twitter is actually pretty cool if you're not being a total attention whore about it.
Twilight? High school kids like Twilight? When I was in high school you'd have been ostracized, or at least asskicked, for coming into school dressed like a metro vampire. And that was only like, 6 years ago.
Lady Gaga? She just happens to be popular, and Americans are popularity whores. Not just high schoolers. How many full grown adults watch TMZ?
Obama? I don't even have to make a case for him. Except to the idiot troll under me, apparently, but idiot trolls are idiots.
And honestly, what high schooler wants to list "crippling financial crisis" or "swine flu" or "North Korea's gone insane" as a milestone?
Stupider is not a word, but the irony is delicious nonetheless.
Every generation is pretty much the same coming out of high school. Caught up in the trends is just a part of it. You must be old so you are not expected to understand.
Perhaps you should learn some real words before insulting the intelligence of high school grads.
this list dosn't do anything other than mirror the vapid, mentally soft, and easilly spoon fed mindset of american teenagers.
Gay marriage, like it or not is amilestone of the shifiting american culture.
Barrack Obama is amilestone as well. everything else? I hate to think that these are our future justices of the peace and brain surgeons.
I don't blame the Twilight. I still, to this day, hold Lord of the Rings as the primary milestone for my generation. I wasn't into politics or music, or anything "popular".
To address one point, to the comment "Nate" delivered ... I guess he's forgetting the first 7 presidents before Van Buren. Furthermore, citizens being born in Hawaii after it was declared a state don't require proof that they were born in this country.
... who is Lady GaGa? Is she the daughter of JaJa Gabor?
Question for "Bob Switch"; if someone gets into a car accident, should they stop feeding their pets? Just because one thing is happening, whether or not you agree with the politics, others shouldn't be ignored. That's how former President George W. Bush messed up the country -- he spent too much time looking at Iraq, and not enough time looking at the drain it had on our economy (in the same way you would spend your entire paycheck to pay off your car payments, and neglect the need for gas in your
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Really? 'Twilight' and 'Lady Gaga'? Are you serious? I'm sorry, but are these listed as milestones for kids entering college or middle school?
FAIL
FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL
What are you guys talking about Lady Gaga should be first as a milestone. She is totally paving the way for girls who want to be fashion designers and musical singers at the same time. What has president Obama done all he did was get elected president and be black. Thats not that hard.
Well it is an MTV poll. The very network which has dumbed down America for the last 20 years. Twilight is a piece of crap. Anne Rice, the vampire series, was popular in my high school. It is Pulitzer prize winning literature compared to the Twilight series.
Hey, MTV - I know they're your target demographic and all, but for the love of god please stop interviewing the stupid kids for these things.
I can honestly say I have never, ever met one single intelligent person who liked Twilight. I can't even say that about George W. Bush or Nascar. And that's pretty sad, right there.
So you don't actually have to write articles anymore? You can just cut and paste things and get paid for that?
The list should go as follows:
5. Gay marriage
1. President Obama
Just omit the middle three and pretend like nothing happened. Just, go 5 to 1. I'm PART of this generation and I am amazed at the choices. But maybe it's because I graduated a whole entire year ahead of them that I realized how stupid my generation is. I mean, I do not even think we would notice if the list went from 5 to 1. We'd just clap our hands and move on to the next shiny, unimportant thing, all the while ignorant to anything beside auto-tuning and Robert Pattinson.
Wow... Just wow. Lady Gaga? Twilight? What kind of nonsense is that? All they're paving the way for is more idiots who think being pretty and having a double digit IQ is what's important in life.
Congratualtions on your fake and vapid lives!
May the Void take you quickly!
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
Interesting is the thread that this feed must've hit. Let's play a game- List your top 5 defining moments of 2009...
I'd love to see the answers, and I'll agree from the get-go, considering these comments- they'll probably be more thought-provoking than either Twilight or Lady Gaga!
im sorry, but if only those five items define my generation, i must be living in the wrong time period. can someone take me back a couple decades where i belong? cause i honestly do not thing president obama or lady gaga acurately describes me.
the worst part is, WE didn't even make this list. the older people trying to belittle our intellegence and values made this meaningless list. First off, not ALL of us are liberals. Not ALL of us believe there should be gay marriage or think President Obama is the best guy for the job. Those are not necessarily my opinions, but placing them on the list gets rid of all the diversity that characterizes humankind AND our generations.
And Lady GaGa? They play it on EVERY STATION ON THE RADIO. My mother loves the song "Just Dance." Twilight? maybe. but frankly, there are just as many people that don't care as tehre are obsessors.
Finally twitter. is it just me? or does it seem only old people use twitter. i mean, the govt uses it
