John Hohle found a way to touch Twilighters- through their intensity and devout generosity. Recently, John offered fans an iPhone application, either in a Team Edward or Team Jacob background. Through July 30, for every 100 applications purchased, a new book was supplied to a Seattle area shelter.
The promotion was an overwhelming success- a total of 40 books, or 10 total Twilight Saga sets were purchased for five Seattle shelters.
John provided this in-depth update:
The organizations were excited to receive the new books and many commented that they were perfect because they were “books the kids and adults would actually want to read!” Now the “Twilight love” is being spread to people who might not otherwise have had the opportunity to read these great novels.
The following shelters benefitted from the New Moon Countdown promotion:
• New Beginnings Shelter received 3 sets of the Twilight Saga Collection. They provide a home for women experiencing domestic violence abuse. They also have a 24 hour crisis line, transitional housing, free weekly support groups, and legal advocacy.
• Roots Young Adult Shelter was excited they now had 2 complete sets of the Twilight Saga. This shelter, located in Seattle, Washington, is the only shelter in the city that provides a safe place specifically for young persons between the age of 18 and 25. Snacks, dinner, and a hot breakfast are also given out in addition to visits by healthcare providers.
• Seattle Indian Center provides day programs for Seattle area teenagers. It offers a job placement program for adults among many other services in Seattle's diverse International District. Seattle Indian Center received two sets of the Twilight Saga for their library.
• Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission has been assisting the homeless for over 77 years in the downtown Seattle area. One set of the Twilight Saga Collection books went to the Women and Children’s shelter. While here, the women receive transitional housing, spiritual development, education and career training, and, if necessary, drug and alcohol recovery.
• Broadview Emergency Shelter provides confidential, transitional and emergency housing for women and children in the Seattle metro area. While at the site women have access to counseling, crisis intervention programs, addiction recovery services and goal setting meetings. Broadview received two sets of the Twilight Saga Collection.
Fortunately for fans, the New Moon Countdown is still available on the iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPod touch. New Moon Countdown is available in Edward and Jacob editions and is the original iPhone app for counting down the time until the release of New Moon in theaters this fall. It’s not too late to purchase New Moon Countdown for your iPhone or iPod touch.
