Here's what we do know. Firstly, The Twilight Saga: New Moon is in full-swing as it films on-set in Vancouver, British Columbia. Also, its budget has been increased to $51 million (from Twilight's $37 million), reportedly, indicating that expectations are, understandably, higher from Summit Entertainment, the director, the cast, and crew of the up-coming film (due on November 20, 2009). Also, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been confirmed by Summit for release in North America on June 30, 2010 (a little over 6 months from New Moon's release date).
We also know that Summit Entertainment has taken The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn as an "optioned property," which, basically, means that they have the choice whether to make the film or not - and they haven't decided at this point. We also know that Robert Pattinson was quoted to say on the Red Carpet of the Oscar's this March that Breaking Dawn would, indeed, be made as well (video below - saying "and Breaking Dawn's gonna be done at some point as well, so yeah...").
[ * Warning * the following contains spoilers for those who have not read Breaking Dawn ]
So where does that leave us? Unfortunately, fans, in limbo. With the imminent and inevitable success of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the demand-side will certainly not be an issue. Rumor had it that the issue was with the character Renesmee and the impossibility of casting a baby with a full set of teeth who continues to grow at rapid and inexplicable speed, talks (when she actually speaks) like a mature adult of wisened years, and who can do spectacular things physically (such as, for instance, jump eight feet in the air to catch a snowflake).
I am reminded of a particular series of wildly successful and well-done films which remains amidst the heat of speculation as to whether it will be completed - The Lord of the Rings series (with Elijah Wood and crew). The Hobbit, which was the first book in J.R.R. Tolkien's literary series, was never made, and fans of the series continue to plead for it. So far, their prayers have remained unanswered, despite the heavy demand, unbelievable success of the films, and, most likely, the willingness of the cast. [Update: Plans to film The Hobbit have been announced.]
In the case of Breaking Dawn, though, there are quite a few distinctions to be had. In The Lord of the Ring series, there was an ending with The Return of the King, but with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, there will not be a tangible sense of completeness to the series without Breaking Dawn's production. Also, Breaking Dawn presents, for some, some of Bella's most shining moments as a strong character, and, quite simply, it is as important a part of the story of Edward and Bella as the very first kiss in Twilight.
So, how could the barriers to Breaking Dawn's production be overcome? Simple: CGI. We already discussed the fact that gifted-CGI-user director Chris Weitz is employing its use for New Moon, and we've seen it bring to life some of our favorite literary characters in other series (think Gollum in The Lord of the Rings or Dobby in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets). Renesmee is, quite simply, not out of reach for our wonderful age of cinematography. Concerns that a CGI-enhanced Renesmee would be inadequate are speculative, really, and I have optimism in the possibilities that the United States' entertainment industry holds.
As for concerns that it would be too long, I am quite positive that I speak for all Twilight series fans when I say that we would be thrilled to sit in an epic-length depiction of this film, just to see it unfold on-screen. Perhaps, I am wrong, but I doubt it. To see characters like Irina, Tanya, and Brie come to life; to see Jacob's inner-strife as he witnesses Bella endure sheer torment, and to have to endure and persist as a labor of love; to see the wedding, the dress, Isle Esme (oh my). To see it all, I dare say, the fans would happily remain seated for three hours or so. Perhaps the studio could even break the film in half, if necessary. In any case, bring Breaking Dawn on, I say.
What do you think? Could Summit and the cast over-come the obstacles that accompany the filming of Breaking Dawn? How and why do you think they should make this film? Comment below and let us know!

it must be made!!
summit must do that film!first this is the whole story of edward and bella about their love and second we have to know and understand why bella' love for edward is better than jacob (eclipse is so annoying),we must feel the truest of true love...
Breaking Dawn is the Epitome/the Highlight/thePeak of Edward amd Bella's love for each other.....
Twilight Saga won't be complete without the Breaking Dawn Movie...
I can sit through a 4 hour Breaking Dawn Film...hey, we all did for Titanic, right??
lol, i really want that film to be made but it will cause great arguments and controversey! Jacob and Renesmee! If they describe impinting properly in Eclipse, there will inevitably be some people who will be disgusted, and try to ban it because of it. Stupid, but true. People tried to ban Harry Potter for Gods Sake so they will have a field day with breaking dawn...
It must be made. If it doesnt there will be no end you will never see the final resolution and how everything finishes. They made other whole serieses why not Twilights, they must!!!!!
I agree that he has to be done. I don't think it would be in Summitt's best interest to end it at Eclipse. It doesn't make sense that they would leave the Twilight fans hanging like that. I don't believe there are too many obstacles to be overcome by making Breaking Dawn. The matter of Renesmee, I really don't see what the big deal is. Technology and CGI have come a long long way over the years. I don't see how it could be such a big issue. I have a lot of faith that Chris Weitz is going to do us fans right by New Moon, I also think he'd be the guy to go to for Breaking Dawn. I guess time will tell. We'll see.
Its a must, like said, its when Bella truly shines.
I'd sit through 3hrs prob more to just see it on screen.
omg they SO need to do this film. i would be most pleased to sit through a 4 hour breaking dawn film! i would love to see the wedding, and how will bella look as she got more older. and how they describe her in her wedding dress, how they say she is the most beutiful girl. and jacob's and renesme's love for eachother, how he is like a big brother to her. i want to see that compassion put into film! if lord of the rings could do it, then for god sakes, twilight can to!!!
I don't care how long it is!! Breaking Dawn is just as important as Twilight, so they have to make the film!! It wold be silly of them not to!!!
plz plz plz plz plz !!!! we want to see it on the big scree ! breaking dawn is the best book of the series !! they must make do it !!
I agree 100% !!!
I think they are waiting to see how well New Moon will do. Will it be as successful as the first flick, i think they will officially go out with the word if they will do the movie or not. Well all depends. Let's just hope we get a 4th film!
Noooo don't make Breaking Dawn!!!
As much as I love Twilight, BD is just a bad book. The story is borderline ridiculous.
And I don't want my beloved RPattz making a fool of himself in a craptastic movie. He has better things to do with his career!!!
It's got not only to be made, but to be made GOOD, all of it, without cuts!
MAKE IT! The first 3 books are leading up to it. If they are not going to make then, what are we building up to??? Bella finally doesn't have to play the victim in the last installment, and Edward in a sense is finally at peace with himself. WE NEED BREAKING DAWN! As far as CGI goes, they should use it as little as possible. They are putting too much thought into it. All they need to do is have different babies, toddlers etc. to play her as she develops. Obviously they would be older toddlers who look younger, smaller in build. The movie version can vary some from the book, it will have to a little. Most of the time her character doesn't speak in the book. She communicates through touch mostly. That is not that hard to shoot. Also, I have heard people freak out about the whole baby delivery scene saying it can't be done. Again, overthinking it! It is so not that hard to do it tastefully. When Edward goes to remove baby they can cut to a scene of what the family is hearing outside the door and downstairs, and not actually show the whole using the teeth to get the baby out. I think that would make it rediculous.
I don't understand how the three could not be made without the fourth? Challenges maybe, but I can't believe that would stop them. The series in film version would be incomplete to say the least without Breaking Dawn. I think majority of fans would be disappointed - I would love to see Bella changed and what Kristin would bring to the new Bella!
The Saga is incomplete without Breaking Dawn. They MUST do it.
i don't care HOW long Breaking Dawn is. They made Harry Potter films and LOTR films that are 2 1/2 hours plus. Gone With the Wind is what? over 5 hours? I would HAPPILY sit through a 3 hour+ movie if it was well made and worth my time- and with the right director/crew- Breaking Dawn could be AMAZING.
The series does not need Breaking Dawn.
The first three books centre around the Bella/Edward relationship, while BD is about something completely different (namely: how wonderful Bella and her perfect baby are). Bella is barely recognisable as a character and Edward has no role in the plot.
I say don't do it !!!
Breaking Dawn has to be made. The other three books/movies lead up to the resolution of all the problems that Bella and Edward have. Trinity - you might want to re-read the books, Bella is not portrayed as perfect - she is seriously flawed and full of self doubt. Her relationship with Edward gives her strength and makes her a stronger person. Reneseme is not perfect either, she is a captivating and unique creature in the book - but not perfect (hence the biting of Jacob and her impatience). I hope Summitt breaks the movie into two - the book has too much in it for even a three hour movie - make TWO!!!!
I don't know why anyone would stop to think that Breaking Dawn would not be produced. Its going to happen, people. No one in their right mind would turn down such a profit, no matter the cost of production. Alo, summit entertainment has caught on to how demanding this fan base is.
If they were to not follow through with Breaking Dawn, they would have an onslaught of rabid fangirls to deal with. The reference to The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the fact that they didn't make The Hobbit is irrelevant. The Hobbit was not a part of the trilogy. Those two books were a seperate entity all together. However, if someone had done enough research, that point wouldn't have been needed because they ARE filming The Hobbit afterall. Look in to it more and you will see. They are in the works right now.
Also, why would you think that Breaking Dawn had no connection to the other 3 books? Bella and Edward are different in the 4th novel because of a little thing called character evolution. I think Breaking Dawn was the best book and will be dissapointed if it does not recieve an R rating.
They really should make it. Cause I don't think any true fan could really have closure with it. I agree that they should use CGI cause they can do so much with it. and they can use a "stunt baby"(a baby doll i guess) for the jump stuff if they really needed to.
I think there is no reason not to do Breaking Dawn. All those things you are talking about could be resolved with a special effects. Summit Entertainment just need to invest a little bit more money in it
I believe the film should be made if it's possible technically. I don't believe length is an issue, as long as it's complete. I would prefer something to be complete and finished rather than imcomplete. Why bother starting what you're never going to finish?
It has to be made, all the way through the series we are constantly waiting to see if Edward will change Bella or not and well Breaking Dawn answers that question!
I think things will have to be left out and I also think some things will need to be changed but I really want to see it!
It would be so amazing with all the Volturi Guard and the Cullens... all the vampires meeting and deciding Renesmee's fate along with everybody else. It could really be an epic film if done correctly and tastefully!
I like some of the suggestions that ppl have said about the birth! They HAVE to do it, it would just be totally incomplete and a real waste of time doing the other 3 without it. Breaking Dawn might not be the best book/story but it finishes it off!
I think Summit has every intension of completing the series. Especially now that they've seen how huge the series actually is. There would be no point to making the first three movies without the fourth. So many things would be left unresolved.
Breaking Dawn was by far my favorite book of the series. It doesn't matter how long they make the movie, I'll definitely sit through it. Probably more than once!
Something catch my attention - "New Moon budget has been increased to $51 million". That is not so much. Is that means, with all that new actors, that our favorite people aren't going to become rich from this saga???
Oh but they must make Breaking Dawn!
I thought it was the best book in the series. I hope it gets an R rating as well. Im 25 and sat through all those books cringing at Bella and Edward's underlying sexual tension waiting for them to explode! All my questions were answered in Breaking Dawn. It must be done.
And I'm sure the talented people at Summit can figure out a way to make Renesmee come to life.... really tough?
Either break it up in two, or make it long. I'd sit through it.
Breaking Dawn should definitely be made because it completes the whole series. There is a sense of resolution in Breaking Dawn. Will it be challanging? Of course the book deals with the supernatural, things that are not ordinary. It can be done though, we have seen crazier things appear on the big screen.
I know some who would think BD should not be made because of its' lack of believablity, but seriously this is a fiction book. Who said anything about any of it being believable. I would be excited to see the wedding scene, the isle scene, to see who would play all the different and interesting vampire characters that we meet in BD. It is a great book that Stephanie created to bring a sense of closure and open up a little of her world for the different vampire clans. We get to see how other vampires exist outside of the Cullens, James, Victoria, and Laurant.
They need Breaking Dawn to be produced to create that same closure, if they don't then another production may and they would lose that profitablity. It just makes sense.
While Breaking Dawn is easily the worst book in the series, they'd have to make it or that would just be pointless. It's the end of the series, even if there is no plot. I will not see that particular movie, as I never finished the book, but they'd have to make it.
They have to make BD. I have to hear Jacob tell Edward to through the baby out the window. I laugh everytime I read that part. I have to see Rosalie make the FIDO bowl for Jacob. I loved BD. Please make it...
The problem Summit faces with Breaking Dawn is that they didn't get all their ducks in a row from the beginning by nailing down the actors for the fourth installment. They are already contracted for the 2nd and 3rd, but the fourth was left out of the contracts (admittedly because at time the contracts were inked Breaking Dawn hadn't even been published yet). But this leaves the studio with a lot of variables, that biggest being that the cast will be making some heavy demands and have the option still at this point to say, NO THANKS. Honestly, it would be the most expensive of the series to make even without exhorbitant salaries for the principal actors. Then you consider that there are more characters in Breaking Dawn than any of the other stories; filming would take twice as long (at least); almost the whole movie would require major CGI enhancement; and the actual film would have to have a run-time of at least 190 minutes. Not that fans would have a problem sitting through it, but the longer the movie, the more film it requires, the more it costs to distribute. You'd be surprised how it adds up. All that combined means a SUPER expensive to make and market movie. Add in the fact that many of the pivotal scenes would cause the movie to be rated R cutting out much of the major fan-base... Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. But to be honest, I'd rather see it not be made, than to see it done poorly.
amishell says: "But to be honest, I'd rather see it not be made, than to see it done poorly."
Agree (I didn't even considered that option) - the worst thing would be if they totally blow it up
If anything they should at least make the first half of the book. (The wedding, the honeymoon, the pregnancy, the birth, and the first 3 months of renesmee's life, before Irina sees her and reports to the Volturi). That would at least bring closure to the series for those who have not read the book.
But I am with every other twihard out there.... they should definitely make the 4th movie. And unfortunately.... the decision will have to be made sooner rather than later because vampires don't age..... so they can't wait a couple of more years....... unless they want to change the principle actors... which would be a complete and utter disaster.
Who knows... if they don't make it then at least 20 or 30 years from now we can look forward to its remake and maybe by then our CGI affects will be out of this world and the making of Renesmee won't even be an issue.
The MUST make BD! The movie series would be incomplete without it! Obviously, CGI could handle the Renesmee issue. Nail down the actors and get on with it! We have to have the whole series in movie form!!! I love how Bella develops in the last book and I'm dying to see the final "battle" scene on film!
I REALLY want them to make BD and with the same actors. If they aren't the same then don't ruin it. I have to agree that I will sit through this movie no matter how long it is. I actually think Twilight should have been longer since they left out SO much. All of the movies should be at the very least 3 hours. You can never get too much of a good thing. I don't understand why some don't want this movie to be made. It ties everything up and some people like me...need closure. Why would I spend all of my time watching the other 3 movies and not see Bella & Edward marry and her change take place. These are the moments we have been waiting for the entire story.
If you think about by the time Breaking Dawn comes out, if they choose to make the movie, the younger readers would have gotten a little bit older and may be aloud by there parents to go see a rated R movie more so than when Twilight came out.
I really hope to see Breaking Dawn be made, but also made correctly. I would have no problem what so ever sitting through it, not even it was 4 hours long....I'd actually really enjoy it if they didn't leave any of the important parts out. It's very possible for them to make this movie considering the CBI stuff, it's all on if they want to fork out the money to do it. They would get their money back for sure in ticket sales and whatever else! I can't see them not making this movie, it just wouldn't be right to cut it off at Eclipse.
It just won't be complete without Breaking Dawn! I am reading the 4th book for the second time and it completes the series. If left out, there will be no sense of completion and the fans will be left wanting. I don't think you would hear the end of it, however, this said, it has to be done with the current stars, no substitutes. The fans wouldn't have it any other way and this might be very costly to Summit! They should have thought of that when procuring the cast for the first three movies. You can't leave out the most important book for many reasons!
Breaking Dawn has to be made, preferably in two parts... i think bella giving birth would be a good break; end the first part with the end of her being human and start the second part with her beginning her existence as a vampire. It is the conclusion to the saga and rounds everything off - bella and edward, renesme and jacob, the volturi get the smack-down that has been needed for centuries. To finish the saga with eclipse would just be so very wrong. As for the difficulties of renesme, CGI would fix that, if you can have guys taking a running leap and shifting into wolves what is so tricky about making a young child appears to have teeth, talk, jump, etc.
Breaking Dawn is a must!
I think it should be made. The book is brilliant and the key scenes make it fantastic. I really hope they do it. I think though due to the amount of story involved it may have to be done in two parts. I think they'll do it they would be chucking away a vast amount of money if they dont.
The Hobbit movie has been announced. It is being directed by Guillermo del Toro and is scheduled to begin shooting in 2010. Should that give us more hope for BD? I agree with the rest, if Gollum can be brought to life, then why not Renesmee.
I think Breaking Dawn has to be made. It also can't change any of the characters. The choice of Robert Patterson for Edward is perfect. The description of Edward in the book is uncanny to Robert Patterson. I am now a fan of his as well. If the characters are changed it won't be the same. If you make it, people will watch. Everyone that has read the book will be looking for this movie.
because without this film why did anyone bother making the others they will be dead hanging in limbo without the end with out breaking dawn the movie there is gonna be well what happened i myself even thou i have read all the books like 3 times each know in my mind i need the movie and im sure that most feel the same all the real magic happens in that book the real love they have for each other as well as there sacrifice for each other
I believe it should be made, the series is a circle and with out BD it is not complete. One of the most important happenings in BD is that Bella finally becomes a vampire, which I can't wait to see on screen, Jacob finally finds his love and Edwards is at peace. I do think that certain scenes need to be done as tasteful as possible so they don't seem out of line or cheesy, but I would not mind sitting through a several hour movie. There are too many important scenes to leave any out.
Breaking Dawn MUST be made. It brings to screen Bella's goal all along: To be immortal and spend forever with Edward. Who in their right mind doesn't want to see that? I for one can't wait :D
The last book (to date) is a must do. To stop with "Eclipse" cheats the story line.
Breaking Dawn should 100% be made into a movie. I would sit in a theater for 10 hours if it meant I could see this book on the big screen. It is absolutely amazing. The world of movies is very advanced and the could for sure figure out a way to make Renesmee's character work out. :)
They could simply employ a life-stage of actresses for Renesmee (similar to having teen and adolescent versions of characters in progressive story movies i.e. Jumper) Use an infant, a 3 year old (mine could talk very well at 3), and maybe a 9 year old for the end. You do not need to CGI too much, to keep from cheapening the film. I am a guy that really enjoys this book the most, and feel abandoning the tying up of ends or the hunting after Bella's change would destroy many fans like me. You could use tame scenes that fade to black for the Isle scene, blend the Jacob POV into the rest and reduce some of the breaking ribs during pregnancy to allot time -- it wouldn't diminish anything. But she has to change, see herself and work some kind of camera of her eyes seeing the blood pulsing inside the animals when she runs. I think it'd be a crime not to do this film.
Breaking Dawn has to be made, otherwise the whole series will be incomplete. I do understand that its a lot to cover in 1 movie, but there are movies that are 3 hours long, and I know for a fact that fans won't mind if Breaking Dawn the movie is long ( or they can make a 2 part movie) I really believe if they can make it right by using the latest movie making techniques, visually it Breaking Dawn will be amazing.Even better than New Moon or Eclipse. Breaking Dawn has many great things to offer.Such as, the Isle Esme scene(so romantic),the process of Bella giving birth and Edward transforming her into a vampire would be an interesting thing to see(Kristen Stewart will make a SEXY vampire).Off course Renesme, she is an unique creature. I really want to see her brought to life. CGI and other techniques could make Breaking Dawn spectacular. The last book is an icing on the cake for the whole Twilight saga, and it would be stupid if summit does not make it.
