Filming for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been a whole different ballgame as far as the Twilight saga films are concerned.
In some instances, there is more clarity - what with the inherent advantages of cast members and director David Slade being on Twitter and all - while in others, the whole process has been infinitely more mysterious. The pace has been rapid, it seems, and the amount of accounts and on-set photographs have been much more limited this time around.
One scene, however, did make it into the blogosphere. It was of newborn vampires emerging from the water in preparation for what must be the imminent havoc that they are to wreak upon the city of Seattle and the inhabitants (particularly the Cullen and La Push families) of Forks, Washington.
According to The Daily News, though, some filming was done in Nanaimo Lakes recently (absent the cast) that the production team isn't spilling about. The scenes, it is reported, were visual effects shots. "Two of our cast members, Cameron Bright who plays Alec and Jodelle Ferland who plays Bree, have ties to Nanaimo, but were not involved in the scenes shot locally," a production member stated.
One look at Nanaimo Lakes, and you might guess that the visual effects footage being done might have something to do with those newborn vampire scenes that were captured previously.
Unlike in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, when a water sequence is specifically prescribed by the book, Eclipse doesn't have a lake scene, per se. That said, since the decision as to how to bring to life the newborn vampire back-story (as it, too, was not a feature in the first-person storyline in Eclipse) involved a lake such as this, perhaps the footage in question is related in some way.
On the other hand, the mountainous nature of the lake area also lends favor to the idea that it may have something to do with the fight sequences that will involve Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Boo Boo Stewart, Xavier Samuel, and Bryce Dallas Howard. In the book, Bella and Edward camp by a mountainside (with Seth Clearwater on guard) before they are attacked by Victoria and Riley.
Finally, it is always possible that, like with Twilight and New Moon, some overhead footage for introductory materials and scenic filler were being captured for the film. Any other possibilities? Comment below with your thoughts!

Hmmmm perhaps the "special effects" could involve a scene with wolves?
probley charlie's fishing trip when they had charlie safely out on a boat while the fight was going on hmmmmmmmmmmm
yeah when charlie is in the boat with billy and there are wolves howling --charlie tells bella about it later
I had the same thought lastnight when Billy Burke announced he was heading to Vancouver this thursday to do his LAST scene for Eclipse.. I tweeted back "Going fishing?" LOL but it also occurred to me that Gil Birmingham is not going to be in Vancouver filming .. but immediately thought of Amandas article w/ the lake..
BUT, the article does say that the filming was without the cast. Oh well, we will see come this JUNE... YAY I'm loving the back to back to back
Stephanie... I think you are on to something there, but if they have the Baby Vamps rising out of the water that won't work for the Charlie scene, but they could be filming same area for different parts of the movie.
They were doing backdrop ( bluescreen ) shots on the Nanaimo river in august 2010 and shooting at the same location in September. An early scene of the werewolves running along a river canyon has a well known spot on the river as a backdrop.
Got something to say?
