The year 2008 saw the book-to-screen translation of two human/vampire love stories: True Blood and Twilight.
True Blood, a television show, which is (like Twilight) based off of a book series - the entire first season of the HBO show was based upon a single volume of the series called Dead Until Dark (The Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 1) by Charlaine Harris - has also developed a rather devoted fan-base.
Sookie Stackhouse is a young, intelligent, and extra-sensory perception wielding southern lady. Much like Bella Swan in Twilight, Sookie has rejected the advances of men she has known (that is, until she meets her charming, romantic, vampiric counterpart).
The most obvious difference, at the out-set, between the two stories and the worlds that Bella and Sookie live in is the fact that, in Sookie's world, vampires are commonly known to exist, and they are openly trying to assimilate into human society (for the most part, at least). The clever name of the television series, in fact, comes from the title of the bottled blood that vampires (are supposed to) live off of. In Twilight, by sharp contrast, the world is mostly unaware of the existence of vampires, and the vampires that do exist (save for the Cullens and the Denali clan) are mostly nomadic and do not try to resist their thirst.
Sookie (played by Oscar-winner Anna Paquin) is eager to become affiliated with vampires, and when she meets Bill, she, like Bella Swan, is totally enamored with him. Unlike Bella, Sookie can let Bill bite her without necessarily becoming a vampire as the procedure for "the change" is quite different between these two stories.
Bill (played by British Stephen Moyer) is a bit like Edward Cullen (played by also-British actor Robert Pattinson) in that he is frustrated with his circumstances as a vampire and wants to be different from some of the less human-friendly others of his kind.
Also, there is another similarity. In True Blood, as in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, there are also shape-shifting (werewolves, arguably) humans such as Sam (played by Sam Trammell) and Twilight's Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).
Perhaps most obviously, one similarity between these two series (book and TV/film) is the fact that the protagonist is a woman, who carries a voice and virtue that her audience can identify with. Her relationships with vampires in the stories is trying, at times, but for the most part one which she wants and finds love and comfort within. At the risk of being overly succinct, they are both a case of "girl is special, then girl meets attractive, kind, generous, and gentleman-like vampire, and girl's life is never the same."
As for the actors, Anna Paquin delivers in True Blood. She is able to present the southern sweet belle charm at the out-set so well, but also maintain that consistent edge that Sookie Stackhouse has. In other words, she is sweet, but she has a low tolerance for bull all the same. Kristen Stewart, similarly, presents us with a Bella Swan which we can recognize from the book series - inward, thoughtful and intelligent, learned, and constantly in awe of her leading man. Stephen Moyer effectively presents the inner struggle that his character has as well as the consuming desire to protect Sookie in True Blood. One could literally feel his pain as he lay in wait (because, in True Blood, vampires cannot come out in the sun, and, in the south, cloud coverage is not helpful) to come to Sookie's rescue. Robert Pattinson's performance of Edward Cullen runs through a similar vein - the viewer can identify with the washes of strife that come across his face, but are taken by his cavalier and courtesy throughout the story.
All in all, these two series boast a host of similarities, but there are also some defining differences. From the setting to the characters to the plot-line itself, True Blood and the Twilight series are two tales that nearly mirror one another in some instances and run dynamic opposites in others.
So, what do you think? Are these two series similar or very different to you? Which series and set of characters do you prefer? Comment below and let us know!

i like twilight a lot, both the books and the movie, but i am definitely interested in reading and watching the true blood series too... i like all vampire books, especially ones that add a new twist to the overall genre...
i wanna read the true blood series because the show was good
I like both but the books for True blood are by far better then the Twilight series. That's coming from an adult perspective tho. My niece who's 9 likes Twilight rather then the Sookie series. Mostly because it's more innocent. When it comes to the writing style of the books they are more in tune to what I read and why I like them. As for Twilight, you can tell Meyer doesn't have a lot of experience with the writing aspect. The series on HBO is great but the movie for Twilight could have been so much more then what they brought. The leads in both that were picked matched my expectations of who I could see them as.
Like Susie said, the main difference between the two is the target audience. Twilight is aimed at teens, and True Blood is for adults.
The Twilight vampires are more fantasy-like, shimmering in the sunlight. The True Blood vampires are more like psychopaths. Even Bill kills without ethical limitations, such as when he murders Sookie's uncle for trying to molest her way back when she was little.
I don't see the downside of being a Twilight vampire- they can easily live off of animals, while True Blood vampires cannot. They required human blood exclusively until the invention of the bottled beverage.
Edward might as well just turn Bella, and they can live happily ever after.
If Bill turned Sookie, she would no longer be Sookie, her compassion for humanity would disappear.
True Blood also deals with both vampires and humans taking both roles of predator and prey- humans stalk and kill vampires to drain their blood as a drug called "V". This gives an extra level of moral ambiguity to the storyline- no clear "good guys" and "bad guys".
I enjoyed the Twilight movie (I have not read the books) but I LOVE True Blood- both the TV series and the novels.
*True Blood SPOILER ALERT* If you haven't read very far into the series stop here!! I think it goes with out saying that though there are a few similarities in both True Blood and Twilight they are still uniquely their own stories. The most evident (and for me the reason why Twilight remains my favorite) is the broken relationship between Sookie & Bill. By book 8 Sookie is no longer with Bill and has been with another Vamp AND a Were-Tiger!! Though Bella has a moment (a stolen kiss with Jacob Black) where she realizes that she is in love with both Edward and Jacob, it is clear to her which is the love she will miss and which she cannot live with out. Though I enjoyed the 1st 8 books of the True Blood series, Twilight still surpasses it for two very important reasons. #1: Stephanie Meyer's ability to create such incredibly 3-dimensional characters and #2: The consistency of the love story its self
I like them both. True Blood is better written that Twilight, Anna Paquin is better actor than Kristen Stewart, but Robert Pattinson is much better looking than Stephen Moyer ;)
I have read both and seen both on tv/at movies. I like twilight because of its innocence but I also like true blood for its adult themes. I agree that Charlaine Harris is a much better writer than S Meyer and Allan Ball does an amazing job with True Blood. I was at first dissapointed w the Twilight movie, I hope they do better w New Moon. I love both male leads in both series, they both are gentlemen who struggle with what they have become. Sookie is way better than Bella though, she has a spunk about her that I love.
Twilight saga, Kristen stewart and robert pattinson, no argument however ima prob bias coz i haven't read the true blood book but have watched the seris
TWILIGHT RULES!!!! Iam a huge book reader and I have never read any "vampire" stories. But I have to say that when my friend bought me the book and told me to just try to read it...once I started I couldn't stop. I had the complete series read in just five days. I could not put it down. Now I have not yet read True Blood, but who cares. I am a 25 year old wife of 6 years and a mother of 2 wonderful boys who envies Bella Swan. Don't get me wrong I absolutley love my family....but come on, who wouldn't fall in love with Edward Cullen in like 2 seconds!!
Well I've never seen True Blood, and don't want too, but I really really am obsessed with Twilight. So I have to say Twilight's better :)
True Blood is infinitely better than Twilight.
Twilight, at least to me, is relatively boring. I barely got through the first book it was so boring. I have been trying to read the second one but I can never finish it. The movie was okay but I found the True Blood series was way better. The characters are way less bland and actually have depth. And the plot is a lot more interesting!
Twilight is a million times better.
True Blood is just horrible and the show is probably one of the worst shows I have seen in ten years.
I agree with Aleta. I have read both and seen both. They are different treatments of the same basic story. As an adult I enjoy True Blook more for the complexity and sarcasm involved. But I also like the Twilight series for the fantasy aspect and why not. We all dream.
Based on the Books I would prefer Twilight novels over Southern Vampire Mysteries(True Blood based novels) though as they were translated on screen I enjoy True Blood better since they expand on the storyline focusing on other characters of the story. Both of the novels have the point of view of the female protagonist and yet in True Blood it is well- developed and not just simply copy paste dialogues(as what I have seen in Twilight).
The theme of Twilight(book) is romantic but less action and yet by the view of the producers and director of Twilight made it more action, just can't figure out what is wrong but there is something wrong with it. No matter how many times I watched Twilight I still can't say Kristen is Bella, I really can't.
While on Southern Vampire Mystery, when I saw how Anna Pacquin interpreted Sookie she had it dead on and helped me understand Sookie more based from these novels. As well as the other actors playing characters in True Blood.
If the movie played out on what the books strengths has both would be equally matched in each own fans minds.
I lean more on True Blood overall. Twilight had let me down on the grounds of adaptation.
Ok. First if you have not read and/or seen both don't pick a favorite.
Second, I have read and seen both and find them both enjoyable. As for picking a favorite that is difficult to do because they may have simularities but they are completly different stories. The Sookie books are meant for a more adult audience and are about the commenly known vampires (can't go in sun, kill with a wooden stake) where Twilight is targeted to a more teen audience and is in a way a vimpire sotry but it does not have vampires in the commonly known way. If you want a good mystery/romance/comady then you will probably enjoy the Sookie books but if you like a teen/love story then read Twilight.
I have read both book series (minus the new one to come out of the Sookie novels). I love, love, love Twilight so much more than Sookie Stackhouse novels! I think that people really underestimate Stephenie Meyer's talent. I enjoyed the books and the movies although I would say the True Blood show is better than the Twilight movie. I also have seen all the True Blood episodes. Although some aspects of the plots in both stories have some similarities, the Sookie books always incorporate a murder mystery. I love Edward Cullen so much more than Bill. I actually like Eric over Bill. So there is no contest that Edward is the more interesting character and much more of a hero than Bill Compton ever would be. As far as Bella vs. Sookie. I just don't compare them at all. I adore both characters totally. I couldn't even say one is better than the other. Sookie is very quirky and funny and Bella is very introspective and compassionate.
Some spoilers below--beware!
I've read both series and honestly I wasn't really sold on the Twilight series until the third book. The reading was okay--but it didn't pull me in the way Charlaine Harris does (of the True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse fame). The fourth book/Breaking Dawn finally pulled me in though and in the end I was quite intrigued by Stephenie Meyer's characters. I also have a little bit of a problem with the fact that Bella to me doesn't really represent a strong female role model. I know a lot of young girls read these books and think about how things would be if they found 'their' Edward. She so rarely strikes out and does anything on her own--without vampire help--and became catatonic when Edward left in the second book. Sookie on the other hand is independant and spunky. She seems relatively unflappable. So Bill cheats on her? So what, life goes on. She's not going to die because her first love leaves. She keeps her life going and even ends up becoming (I think) more of a strong person from the situation.
As far as the tv/movie I think True Blood is definitely a stronger production visually and has better acting. I liked the Twilight movie but those vampire special effects (running up the tree etc) give me a break!! That being said I do really like both series and their film productions and am looking forward to their next installments.
I am a fan of vampire novels/movies and completely fell in love with the Twilight Saga from the first chapter. I could not put them down and have read them through twice. I loved the movie as well and felt Robert Pattinson totally embodied Edward. I saw the Tru Blood series and have since attempted to read the books....I can not get close to getting into them. The are not nearly as captivating as Twilight...I also felt that the mini series was horribly acted with the fake southern accents and Sookie really got on my nerves! Twilight is the better series, no comparison. Stephenie Meyer has an amazing talent that some just don't want to give her credit for.
(Spoiler Alert)
I have read both.
Twilight was an alright read, but nothing fantastic. I found Twilight hard to read because the writing wasn't up to par, but New Moon was fantastic. New Moon, it seemed that Stephenie Meyer put a lot more effort into thinking through all aspects of writing and also creating fabulous new writing techniques. Eclipse was boring for me; it was just so sappy, but Breaking Dawn is another favourite. I think Stephenie Meyer can really start a whole new series with Breaking Dawn. New Moon and Breaking Dawn would be my favourites in the Twilight Series.
As for The Sookie Stackhouse Series. I absolutely adore Charlaine Harris' books. I suppose because I am an older audience. Everything that Sookie feels and goes through is captivating and also easily identifiable. And ... I like how Charlaine Harris always has a different plot for each story. At times though, you can see some repetitive dialogue.
As for the Twilight movie. I thought that Summit Entertainment did the best that they could with the budget that they were on. For a low budget film, like Twilight, it was a great movie. Both Robert and Kristen made a fabulous team and the cast were all perfect albeit Eric. I had a different vision of who Eric was. I can't wait till New Moon. It will be interesting to see the Wolf Pack.
True Blood is a fantastic series. Again, that is only because I'm an older audience. I downloaded the series and I pretty much watched the nights away on a True Blood Marathon. Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are fantastic together. It's too bad that Sookie and Bill will eventually part ways. But ... I do think Eric and Sookie make a better couple. I think because Eric is strong and takes no crap from no one. Sookie so needs that. She is strong and independant, but she needs a strong male counterpart.
As for vampires in general. I've watched probably every vampire film ever made; all but two or three (I think). And ... I just have to say that Stephenie Meyer's adaption of vampires would be the most alluring from all other vampire stories and movies, as Edward Cullen is young, good looking and yes, a 109 (Correct me if I'm wrong on the age) year old Gentleman. If you are not gaga over Edward, then something is definitely wrong with you. And ... I'm not talking about Robert Pattison; I'm talking about the character Edward Cullen. Yes, Robert was fantastic, but then again, so was Brad Pitt as the vampire Louis in Interview with the Vampire. Anyone who plays a vampire is always going to look good.
I can't say which is my favourite as they are two completely different stories. Two different adaptions on what vampires are like and what vampire love feels like.
I also think everyone is different and we all have our own opinions. That is the bonus of democracy and freedom of speech.
I like both and I do have other favourite vampire stories other than just Stephenie Meyer and Charlaine Harris.
Anyone hear about Lost Boys? Now, that is a golden 80s Classic with a Soundtrack to die for. Check it out at your nearest Video Store. :O)
Hope all is well.
Loves & Huggles,
Briseis09 :O)
Twilight and TrueBlood are both interesting stories (movie/tv). True Blood is more violent though both stories are between human/vampire relationship. But for me, Twilight is best. It captured the attention of all generations.
True Blood is an amazing show. I have read all 8 books and I enjoyed them I prefer the show more. Also I have seen Twilight and personally it is too teeny-boppy for me. Give me True Blood with all the adult themes aspects any day.
TrueBloodNet.com
I read and watched the True Blood series as well as the Twilight series. I am a 30 something professional, yet prefer the Twilight series. I like them both, but felt that the pure and basic love story of Twilight far surpassed the excitement level when there is much left to the imagination. I think they are similar storylines but not comparable. With True Blood the book is all about the adventure, with Twilight it revolves around the romance. When you try to compare them you can get disappointed.
I read the Twilight Saga in one weekend, and read 7 of the Southern Vampire Series the next. I felt that in both cases, the first book really draws you in. The sophomore books digs the series' hooks into you... I'm not a writer and haven't studied literature extensively, so I cannot comment on the quality of the work of the authors. I can however say that both authors definitely got me hooked and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next.
I'd say Twilight is driven more by romance/love with an underlying restraint while the Southern Vampire Series is more of a whodunnit peppered with a number of carnal escapades. In terms of genre, I don't think I'd prefer one over the other outright, because that would really depend on my mood. In terms of repeat readings though, the Twilight Saga wins over the Southern Vampire Series. I've read the Twilight Saga twice now and I think I would read it again. With the Southern Vampire Series, I don't feel compelled to read through it all over again.
I find myself wondering if Stephenie Meyer ever read any of Charlaine Harris' work because of the similarities of the main protagonists. Meyer's Edward and Harris' Sookie both have the ability to read minds, while the object of his/her affections has the only mind that they cannot read (although in Harris' world, it's not just Bill's mind that Sookie cannot read, but for other supernatural beings as well).
I felt that from book to screen, Twilight was interpreted more faithfully in terms of characters and events. True Blood went off on its own direction from the Southern Vampire Series- way off! I felt robbed when the screen Twilight didn't have the blood-typing scene or even mention Jasper's special ability, but the gist of the story by Stephenie Meyer was intact. With True Blood, I felt robbed that Bubba isn't in it and that a different person stakes the vampire that was about to devour Sookie, so there are a ton of plot and character changes from Charlaine Harris' original. I've found that I get quite irked when book to screen adaptations veer off from the original too much, no matter how engaging the results of the changes are.
I can't choose which characters are better, but I think the Twilight Saga characters are more developed than the Southern Vampire Series/True Blood characters. The underdeveloped characters in the Southern Vampire Series/True Blood might be done on purpose so that the reader/viewer would have more suspects for the whole mystery vibe of the series. The character I most enjoyed watching though is Lafayette from True Blood.
As for the actors that play the leads on screen (Bella/Kristen Stewart, Edward/Rob Pattinson, Sookie/Anna Paquin, Bill/Stephen Moyer), the chemistry of Kristen and Rob eclipses that of Anna and Bill. All four are convincing actors for the parts that they play, but Anna seems to have the meatier role as her character goes through several levels of varying emotions. Great actors in that core four, but I can't say the same for the supporting cast of each franchise.
I'd recommend reading both series though, and watching Twilight, but not so much True Blood...
I'd also recommend L J Smith's Vampire Diaries as well, since the CW will be bringing it to the small screen. It will probably appeal to the teens more than the more mature target demographic of True Blood. I doubt that it would equal Twilight's cross generational appeal though.
I guess, for now, the Twilight Saga edges out the Southern Vampire Series/True Blood.
I love and adore the Twilight books and movie ! But I'm sorry the True Blood show and books did nothing for me because the characters weren't as likeable as in the Twilight series.
THE TWILIGHT BOOKS WERE BETTER THAN THE TRUE BLOOD BOOKS AND people shouldn't compare the two if you haven't even read the books.
Twilight is loved within many age groups. That is something you don't see very often.Twilights story is beautiful and breathtaking that's why it's the more popular.
I've read two of the Sookie books and TRIED TO WATCH the show but couldn't so that tells you how bad it was the books were not developed well and the characters are likeable like the Twilight books the stories jumped all over the place but I'll always love those Twilight books.
I have read both series' (numerous times each) and love them both for similar and different reasons in the same fashion that they are similar and different in comparison to each other.
Twilight is more universal I think because ultimately is a story about true love that happens to have vampires (and that all ages can read and love). It is more chaste and innocent as it is not only a young adult novel but also written by a Mormon author. True Blood (I'm using this in reference to all the books not just the show) is obviously more adult--it is more graphic, raunchy, steamy, and violent. It also seems to be more about vampires and supernatural beings that also happens to have a love story (or several if you've read all the books).
When I'm in the mood for sex, violence, and good entertainment I'll grab one of my Sookie books. When I'm in need of chivalry and ooey-gooey love I'll grab Twilight. While they are both different they both satisfy my need for vampires and love--and are each addictive and quick reads.
As far as the actors go: Rob is by far better looking, though Stephen is a better actor (and still good looking). I love Kristen and Anna equally, I think each play their parts to a T and fit the character in my mind. I was very disappointed with Twilight (though that doesn't stop me from watching it repeatedly) and I was actually overly surprised at how addicted to True Blood I became after just the first episode. For Stephanie being a new author and Twilight being her first book, I am impressed, but you can see the evidence of Charlaine's experience in her work.
I don't think in any way that Charlaine Harris is a better writter. I think Twilight was written ok but the writing got better and I just love the Twilight series for it's story and how it touches many different ages.
True Blood is aimed at adults rather then teenagers. I prefer the crazy fun story lines that the Sookie novels have. I like Twilight too. But if it's a choice i have to say Sookie.
The books shouldn't be compared. Twilight is more popular for a reason and the Sookie books were ok. I prefer the Twilight books and I'm in my late twenties so Twilight is univeral in age.
True Blood wins.
The sookie stackhouse series was written years before twilight, and i have to say that stephenie meyer totally ripped charlaine harris off. Sookie is a much more likable main character than Bella, and the characters in the Southern Vampire series are much more dynamic and fun.
in terms of the movie/TV show... Anna Paquin could kick Kristin Stewarts ass any day, maybe if the girl knew how to develop some character her acting could be appreciated.
To be fair, i went through a twilight phase. I was a fan of the series quite a while before the "twilight craze" began. I reccomended the book to several people! i remained a loyal fan until the movie came out!
and then, i was disguisted by kristin stewart, and soon after discovered True Blood, and shortly after that, read the Sookie series.
And now, my friends, I am done with Twilight.
True Blood is the winner.
well i have to say 1st came trueblood then came twilight and i became madly obsessed with both to a point.
i saw the series "trueblood" then decided to read the 1st book and really liked it but due to spoilers learnt that sookie and bill break up with seemingly no reconciliation in sight,so that was a major turn-off and i havent read any of the other books since, but i'm still madly in love with the show cant wait for the 2nd season!!!
now a few months later i bought "twilight" a week before the film came out,and i read that book from cover to cover till the wee hours of dawn needless to say i felt like a druggie after his 1st hit..and to quote edward it "was exactly my brand of heroine" and i really love the film, i understand the budget problems but really think reading the book before seeing the film helps a lot too...
i like to tell friends that i cant really compare the two as they both cater to different needs in me, i love them both, edward is my prince-charming if i'm looking for true everlasting love soulmates stuff whereas bill is my bad boy fantasy made reality with whom i wanna do bad things and have a really crazy good time...but since i'm more of a classic edward and twilight win every time, i've read them all 6times, sookie novel 1-only one time, twilight film over20times trueblood only once but only becoz i dont have the dvd yet..
I defintly prefer Trueblood over twlight anytime. I am 12 years old and I AM in love with trueblood. I have read all the books and am still waiting for dead and gone to come out in may. All my ferinds at school are obseesd with twilght (quite a few love trueblood 2) but twilght just doesnt appeal to me. Yes I have seen the movie and I got to chapter 5 in twilght. I stopped because I just didnt like it. In my opinomn it is HORRIBLE but thats just my opion. If you like it than thats great.
True Blood just is better to me and You shouldnt compare them with twilght. True Blood is more for the older audiences. While Twilght is meant for young adults like myself. I have ferinds taht love twilght and hate trueblood. I have ferinds that love trueblood and hate twilight and i have ferinds that love both and hate both. It Doesnt really MATTER BECUASE THEY ARE BOTH GOOD BOOKS AND BOTH AUTHORS ARE REALLY TALENTED.
They Ruined the tilgiht movie with pretty boy robert pattison. And Kirsiten Stewuart is a slut.
As of now i prefer Eric Northman Over Bill Compton but thats not becuase of waht bill did to sookie its because eric remembered what happend. I Think eric is more of a solid proider than bill.
This all Came from a 12 year old girl.. THATS RIGHT I WENT THERE :)
I have to say in reading these comments that I am very disturbed that a 12 year old is reading the True Blood books and watching the series. They are by no means made for children. The sex in bothe the books and TV show are graphic and not intended for children. Whoever is letting their kids watch or read these novels in a bad parent.
That being said.... I have read both Twilight and the True Blood series multiple times. They are both very different, but also both very enjoyable to watch and to read. They are both different from the books. The books in each case are much better than the Movies and TV series. However, HBO is doing a much better job bringing True Blood to screen than Catherine Hardwick did in bringing Twilight to the movie screen. If the dialogue is good, why change it? Why add scenes that never existed in favor of scened already written in the book that make it perfect? Allan Ball is doing a great job for HBO with True Blood, however there are differences such as Tara's character. She is a very minute character in the book, yet she is a huge character in the TV series, and an annoying one too!. And Jason never becomes part of the Fellowship. Why add when it is good to begin with?
They have similarities, but what makes them special is that they both have their own unique spin on the vampire genre, and they both do a great job in making them interesting, and unique.
Both are excellent.
i have read the twilight saga twice already and it is awesome, im totally a twilight fan so twilight is way better than true blood. i have not read true blood but reading on this page what the series is about i much prefer twilight. first because twilight has a much better interesting plot than true blood. second the characters of twilight is also much better than true blood because in true blood that vampire can actually bite tha girl and that makes no sense, and thirdly true blood has no point, and twilight is a very romantic story with a hot vampire so for anyone that havent read or seen twilight i recommend you guys to see/read it!
I love True Blood much more than Twilight. The main reason boils down to the heroines of both novels. I've read all the Sookie books; though I do have to say Charlaine Harris needs a better editor. I saw Twilight and felt that Bella was really annoying. I haven't read the books, so it could just be Kristen Stewart. Bella was just boring and she just let things happen to her. She is just so infatuated with Edward; its kind of disgusting. I'm told by friends that she redeems herself more in the later books, but as of now I think she is a very passive character. I may get around to reading the books, but as of right now its pretty low on my priority list. Sookie, on the other hand, is a much more active character. She doesn't just let the vampires have control over her. She has to save herself from danger. Although, I wish she would forgive Bill and get back together with him. Eric or Sam would be acceptable, as well.
THE SOOKIE STACKHOUSE NOVELS CAME OUT FIRST!!!
I am in love with True Blood and the novels. Twilight is a cheap version with lame characters. AND I have read both so I CAN judge... Stephanie Myer copied the fact that Edward wac read minds because Sookie can. And the fact that Edward and Bella are so happy because he can hear her thoughts when, Bill and Sookie are happy because she can hear his. They are both vamps to seek redemption. Twilight should be banned and Stepahnie should be sued, since it she copied an extremely talented author (Charlaine Harris)who didn't recieve the credit that she is owed. TRUE BLOOD AND SOOKIE STACKHOUSE ALL THE WAY!!!
I need a better editor,,, what I was tryong to say was...

I originally started out as a Twilight-aholic. I LOVED Twilight! Great book, different plot, good characters. I read them about a dozen times. After I finished them, I decided to 'branch out' my vamp reading. I tried Anne Rice(a little too boring for me) and happened to run across Dead Until Dawn, just in passing. Bought it, read it, ran to the store the next day and bought the other 7 books to the series. It is so addicting! And I know that the Sookie Stackhouse series was written first and a few things from Meyers does look familiar. I now feel that Twilight is for teenagers (even though I'm 23) and the Charlaine Harris books are for adults. I haven't seen the show, but I have pre-ordered it! So, overall, I think Twilight was good, until I read Dead Until Dawn. :) I guess it depends on your age. I would croak if I had a 13 year old daughter reading the Sookie series.
TRUE BLOOD ALL THE WAY!!
THE SOUTHERN VAMPIRE MYSTERIES CAME FIRST
THE SHOW IS FANTASTIC
AND CHARLAINE HARRIS IS JUST ONE BIG GENIUS!
hmmm.. I actually caught my first glimpse on "true blood" a couple of hours ago... and the first thing I thought was, "ooh! vampires!".. lol.. I watched the thing (thinking it was a movie), but was cliffhanged.. hmm.. True blood has more "violence" in it and sexual content as well.. but, I love the concept anyhow.. and now, I hope I'd catch it again on TV tomorrow..
and between the actors in the two franchises.. Kristen and Anna are both great.. But, I can't judge Anna yet as I'm still starting to watch the series.. and Rob and Stephen are so hot (lol), and they both can portray "vampires" (hot and mysterious) pretty well..
and btw, I love Twilight! as in freakin' love!.. lol.. I never paid attention to vampires until twilight came to me.. lol
I was a fan of Charlaine Harris's books when they first came out, so I'll always consider myself a True Blood Fan over a Twilighter. Though I do love Stephenie Meyer's books - and the movie - I don't read them for Edward; I read them for Jacob. True Blood is for a more mature, older audience than the teenage romance that Twilight is. That's pretty much the only thing I don't like about Twilight-- have you ever been chased down by obsessed tween fans all because you said you were Team Jacob? I've read all the books of both series, and I must say i like True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse Series over the Twilight Saga... Maybe because it's still on-going XD Or maybe it's just because of Eric...
I like both series though Charlaine's characters are a tad more varied. If Stephenie were to continue her story lines as Charlaine has done (9 books now) we'd probably see an equal assortment of supernaturals.
Still I like the Twilight Saga best - there is just more purity of love there - more passion in the way Stephenie describes Bella & Edward.
Sookie is a great character but it seems she is always in danger and Charlaine never allows her, a true soul-mate. In Twilight, we see the entire Saga centering on Bella-Edward and their extended family's security which is what intrigues me and makes me want far more from the author. Stpehenie has too, too many stories yet to tell about the Cullens to stop now!
Can't we all just get along? I love both for very different reasons. Apples and oranges here.
Um..didnt trueblood come out before twilight.why are we comparing trueblood to twilight it should be the other way around.
Wow I can't believe these comments on this site. For those of u who have not read the sookie novels and are choosing twilight over trueblood should not judge. U need to read the books not watch the show to really decide which is best. For me I was mortified when I had first seen trueblood and not know this piece of literature was out there and I haven't read it. I was hooked when I first seen bill at merlots. He and sookie captured a chemistry that I haven't seen in a long time on film. Now as for twilight, I gave it a chance so I brought the book. Couldn't get into it. But when I seen the film I was infatuated with edward. He has a certain angelic face that I love and is very handsome. I loved the film better than the book. So now iam a true/twilght fan.
both are good. true blood is for a more mature audience with all the sex and violence while twilight appeals to a younger audience with its "romeo and juliet" story. my heart goes to rob patttinson. he is the reason why i love the twilight saga the most. there is just so much more in him that i want to see and discover.i can't wait to view all four movies.
I love both...but prefer to stick with the Sookie Stackhouse novels more mature content
I read the Twilight books before the Sookie Stackhouse Series - since I had not heard of the S.S. Series until HBO's "True Blood." I couldn't believe the similiarities. I immediately thought that Stephanie Meyer copied Charlaine Harris' work. All Meyer did was water it down for a younger audience.
Read both series. Stephenie Meyer is a better writer then Charlaine Harris. Both are definitely entertaining.
u dont have to say bad things about twilight i am a twilight fan.Im 14 years old and twiight rocks i havent read True Blood but i belive Edward Cullen is the best vampire of the 21st century!!
