A recent press release from the Quileute Nation has highlighted a very disturbing set of recent events. According to them, one Twilight fan took anticipation for The Twilight Saga: New Moon a little too far.
Says the release, "A Twilight fan visiting Quileute from Georgia was rescued from an island they surmised could be the location where the main character Bella Swan goes cliff diving in the 2nd book of the Twilight saga New Moon."
The Quileute Nation, however, has spoken up on the matter, stating that while the "Quileute Nation has been very welcoming of all visitors to La Push," it "does not condone behavior that could result in bodily harm to anyone visiting this beautiful land. We understand the eagerness of fans to seek out every detail that is a part of the story, but please remember this is a work of fiction."
The fan was saved by the Coast Guard in a full-scale rescue mission on Tuesday, July 14.
This event serves as an extremely important reminder of the care that needs to be taken by fans of the Twilight or any other series. It is all too tempting, at times, to forget that there is a limit to what we truly can experience for ourselves. We don't need a warning sign on our fiction novels, do we?
With the Quileute Days festival forthcoming this weekend, one can only hope this is an isolated and un-repeated incident and that attendants of the festival are careful and respectful of La Push and the Quileute Nation during their stay.

Wowza - I wouldn't even have thought of doing that! The only reason Bella didn't drown was because super-wolf Jacob saved her human behind!
I hope that this fan is being cared for. Actions such as these are a clear symptom of deeper mental health issues.
Reading "Twilight" is a clear symptom of deeper mental health issues.
WTH!?! Why does that person have to be from GA? I hope someone explains to her that Twilight is a fictional story (hint vampires, werewolves). :-(
Like they said, it's beginning to be a little much if we have to put "Don't try this at home... or anywhere else" disclaimers on FICTIONAL books...
People are so stupid sometimes...
It's not necessarily a mental problem, this person is probably not disturbed, they may be natural thrill seekers. They probably should have used better care in picking a location, like a place where cliff diving is done by the locals.. I've contemplated trying cliff diving but OBVIOUSLY I would have a group of people with me JUST IN CASE. Kudos on the seek of the thrill, please use better judgement on location and use the buddy system!
Another great article, Amanda. You always bring us the unknowns as well as hot news! Y'ALL heard it here FIRST! :)
WTW? She would have to be from Georgia and give us southern fangirls a bad name. What a MORON!
LOL! MAYBE SHE WAS TRYING TO HEAR EDWARDS VOICE! THIS IS SOOOO HILARIOUS!
hahahahah! i love your comment:)) why the hell would you do such a thing.. i feel sorry for her tho, maybe she was just seeking some thrill.
It may not be such a bad idea to put warnings on Twilight books explaining that there is no real Edward, and girls should not be waiting for one to arrive. And the movies should have the same.
I am so tired of people not taking personal responsibility. There should be no need for warning labels for anything that common sense would be able to determine. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye you might cause blindness. WOW! Really? Fictional books, song lyrics, stupid movie stunts, etc. are not viable excuses for creating your own havoc or grounds for any lawsuit. You do something stupid you should be labeled as stupid.
And guess what, unless you specify, coffee is hot and can burn you. "Contents may be hot" labeling is for idiots.
Tony - What?! Edward's not real? Well, that's going to seriously alter my life plan. Thanks a lot.
Let's get a grip people!!!
And Darwin very nearly strikes again!
I don't think a warning label would make any difference. it's clear in the book that jumping was neither safe or a good decision on Bella's part. People are going to do whatever they want regardless of warning labels. Do you think warning labels on cigarettes really keep people from smoking?
Wow...Serves her right though for being that much of an idiot. Seriously, what the bleep was she thinking jumping off a cliff...if Bella had cut her wrists in the book, would the girl have done that too? Perhaps Darwin only had it partially correct. "Survival of the most Competent"
Bless her silly little heart. I guess she was just trying to secure her nominations for this year's Darwin Awards...
tehe "bless her silly little heart" cute saying. but i agree, i like the music in the movie but thats really just about it.. i use to like the movie too. but all these kids started liking it:// but yeah kids shouldnt do this stuff its crazy
Gad. I know young people can be a little short on judgment, but actions like this really make me wonder. After reading this, I almost can't help agreeing with the people who won't let their kids read fantasy because they're afraid said kids will forget what reality is. I hope this girl is getting help, including help from a psychologist.
what a moron to bad darwin's law didn't kick in
and i thought the whole naming your kid after the characters was bad enough ! then this ? twilight isnt even that good !!!
ok.. i think she went too far this time now..
is she insane? trying to follow bella's character doing dangerous stuffs..
i honestly agree...do we have to put warning labels on everything now?! wut the hell?! honestly this girl was not the brightest crayon in the box huh? reading a book and thinking o bella jumps off the cliff why dont i? people need to get a grip on reality and start taking responsibility in seperating reality and fantasy...its a book..this is life..people are so stupid...
XDDD
I just read it was a GUY!! (shaking my head, amused and amazed)
Fail.
lol
maybe she fell while she was looking over the edge i mean who would be stupid enough to do that i mean im CRAZY obsessed with twilight i want to go to forks you know but cliff diving what an idiot
geez what an idiot to model her life after a mary-sue who gets in trouble every 2 minutes is just stupid
now if we could only get all twilight fans to jump off a cliff the world would be a better smarter place
WOW, things like this really make be believe that the world will end on 2012.
what is it with people immediately asuming it's a girl, IT WAS A GUY !!
a 22-year old man to be exact.
Is it horrible of me that I lol'd?
roflmao.
I'm sorry, but is a horrible thing that I laughed out loud? xD
ACTUALLY....
All of you are wrong.
He is 21, he is not a fan, he had never even read the books. He had no idea he was 're-enacting' any story. he was just doing a bit of rock climbing. the guys is a friend of mine.
people should really get the facts straight.
this is just sad..lol.
For those of you who posted WITHOUT reading the other posts before yours let me just tell you, it was a 21 year old GUY who is a friend of mine, who NEVER read the Twilight books before and didn't even know LaPush was in Twilight!! He was just up there to take a few photos of the scenery. The coastguard thought he was stuck - he wasn't.
Of course someone would do something like this. Bella in the novel is practically a mary-sue or a self insert. Either way, people want to connect or even be her so they can escape into a delusion that the "hawt" sparkly, emotionally blank, wannabe vampire wants to violently rape her. Its only natural they'll become stupid enough to try to kill them selves so said sparklpire will rescue them.
To any twilight fans that are offended by my comments: HE'S A FICTIONAL CHARACTER WITH THE PERSONALITY OF A SERIAL RAPIST/KILLER. GET OVER HIM.
Even if the person wasn't a moron who tried to emulate a work of fiction, I wouldn't be surprised if this did happen one day.
come on leave the person alone just think if that was you...
seriously you guys need to shut up. it was a freaking guy for lord's sake e __ e wasnt even a twilight fan.
So... It wasn't a Twilight-obsessed girlfan who wanted SuperVamp to swoop out of the sky and save her, just a (maybe) a bit dim man who'd never even read the book? Am I getting the facts right?
Pity. The untrue version was funnier.
Another reason to hate Twilight: their fans are denser than a sack of bricks.
Why did the coast guards interfere with natural selection?
Got something to say?
