'Twilight' DVD deleted scenes should've been in theater, fans say

'Twilight' - Summit Ent.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart took the theatrical world by storm in 2008 with Twilight. Viewers clapped and cheered as they first locked lips in the movie (though the scene of their first kiss, Twilight book fans know, was quite different in Stephenie Meyer's version. Yet, the kiss could have been a lot sooner - at least in dreams.

In one of the deleted scenes of the DVD, Bella Swan’s first dream about Edward Cullen was a little juicier than that of the theatrical version. Though some say it was a little too racy for the big screen, many others disagree and say it should have very well been a part of the movie they saw in November, 2008.

The same is true for another scene, one where Edward tells Bella to stay out of the forest because within lurks things (a.k.a., less human-friendly vamps) more dangerous than himself. This scene also included a few other lines that were originally in the book (in some form, at least), such as when Edward tells Bella that her “number was up” the first time she met him. Fans say that this scene rings in the point that he struggles with his thirst for her so immensely.

Proponents of the status quo say that this scene was rightfully left out and that it was a little too racy (since Bella also puts her fingertip (her “fragile little human” fingertip, that is) into Edward’s mouth to test his reserve and self-control even further than it already is) for the young adult and teen audience Twilight was inevitably to (and did) attract.

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has justified leaving out some of these deleted and extended scenes for similar reasons, saying that these scenes (such as one between Bella and her father Charlie, at the diner, discussing her mother Renee’s terrible cooking and Charlie’s dislike for anti-Cullen family rhetoric and intrigue around Forks – lines also resembling those found in the text of the book) would have slowed the “pace” of the film.

Many fans disagree on both fronts. Fans of the book series, especially, say that these deleted scenes should have unquestionably made the cut and that they contain crucial portions of the book and the story that they missed in the film version of Twilight. To concerns about its racy nature, these fans cite Stephenie Meyer, who has been known on many occasions to state that Twilight, the novel, was not initially intended for young adult audiences. To issues with the pace of the movie, they say that these pieces would’ve fit very nicely in the flow of the movie, and perhaps the problem with the film was that the romantic development between Edward and Bella was a little too rushed.

In short, many fans say that these deleted scenes, which they have been waiting on since the movie’s theatrical release, should have been in the film they saw last November on the silver screen. In addition, they say that they hope New Moon, and its new director Chris Weitz, hears their cries and gives them more of the book than did Twilight, not leaving these precious moments of scenery and dialogue to the special features section of its DVD version.

What do you think? Should the DVD’s deleted scenes been included in the theatrical version of the film? Comment below with your views!

He** yes, the deleted scenes should've been in the original cut! A lot of the lines in them were verbatim from the book, and I missed those - especially the ones between Bella & Edward! My God, I was tormented by the fact that they weren't in there when I saw them... Catherine must've not been a big Twilight fan, then.

I've seen several of the deleted and extended scenes and my feelings are mixed. Some of them would have been nice to have in the movie, others were just inappropriate. Bella sticking her finger in Edward's mouth and asking him if he wanted a taste was entirely too far out of character and would have spoiled it for me. As for the dream sequence - what was needed there instead of the kiss (IMO) was Bella mumbling Edward's name and the camera panning to Edward's face running through several emotions (yes, I've read Midnight Sun), then back to Bella waking up. I too hope the Chris Weitz remains true to the book, and that they realize that we are die hard fans who CAN sit through a 2+ hour movie and still enjoy it immensely.

I think these scenes should have been in the theatrical cut. There was so little dialogue between Charlie and Bella that the extra scene could have helped, and also to explain the way Charlie feels about the anti-Cullen talk in town. I didn't feel that the dream kiss was too racy and would have been fine in the movie. I really think the part where Edward and Bella are walking and talking should have been included, with the exception of the finger in the mouth shot. Though that was a hot scene, "book Edward" would never have allowed that kind of interaction. He fights too hard to keep himself from killing her that there's no way he would take that kind of risk. "Book Bella" also understands the limitations so this part in the scene was really unrealistic.

I agree with what Soo says. It would have been good to have the deleted scenes in the movie. (Excepted the finger scene. That was so Robert Pattinson, but not Edward Cullen) Although it was nice to see in the DVD deleted scenes. There was also a scene where Bella was leaving the school the first day after Edward met her. He looked uncontrollable as she passed him. His eyes had dark shadows underneath them (like in the book) and he was digging his fingers into his car. Its the scene where Emmet says (shes not one of us!)It expanded on the turmoil Edward felt around Bella.
I felt the Wayland caractor was unnecessary. He was not in the book and the cafe scene about him took up precious time that could have been used to expand on Edward and Bella's developing relationship. They should have just made him an anonymous victim like the mill sectary guard. I did like the movie introducing the killers sooner though, it added suspicion. (did the Cullen's do it) kind of thing.
The longer dream scene would have been perfect. It would have made it clearer what Bella was thinking about him.

I think these scenes should really have made the cut for the film. The film I honestly think was not as good as the book. Some may argue with me, but I really liked the book better. The film was way too slow to get to the point. If these scenes had been in the film, it would have helped it go along faster, and get to the point. But the scenes were good, and I enjoyed them. I am very very excited for the movie to come on DVD!!!

I loved Twilight (the book) and really hope that New Moon will be more like the book than Twilight was. I really hated that everything was out of sequence and that thangs took place in areas that the book didnt have them. I havent seen the deleted scenes yet but cant wait to see them and air my disappointed with everyone else.

The films are never as good as the books!

Yeah sure some scenes should have been left in, I mean you can't really say it was too hot I mean look at all the BUFFY the vampire episodes how steamy did they get! Angel drinks from her at one point.
TWILIGHT should not hold back as Buffy and ANGEL never did.
Don't leave anything out in future and don't be afraid to keep it real to the books directors....! the hotter the better..! the darker the better...
We have films out like UNDERWORLD, and interview with the vampire, QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. If the fans wont what's in the books then give it to them!

And if RPATTZ is having trouble in N Y C well he can always find me ;-)

God I hope they do it right in BREAKING DAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with whoever said that those scenes should have been in the book. They DO give you that extra little information/feeling that Twilight was lacking. (although I still loved Twilight). The kiss was not THAT racy. With the things that preteens are coming across in todays society, that movie, even with all those scenes should have been rated PG!!!
There was another scene that I saw online, I don't know if you can still find it or not, but it is a continuation of the meadow scene. When I saw it, I got a little agrivated, just because it was SO perfect and they left it out. Edward touches her face all lovingly and there is more dialoug from the book that I can't remember, and she says one of my favorite lines "i'd rather die than stay away from you" It was soooo perfect.
Keeping all those scenes in alone, would have made the movie better. I am disappointed with Catherine. What does she mean it would have slowed it down? The movie was pretty slow moving in the beginning, and she sure as heck added enough stuff that didn't need to be in there anyway. And plus, the movie was not even two hours long. It could have been quit a bit longer!!! The more I think about it, the more dissappointed I get with her.
Another thing, I'm not sure if this could have been avoided or not, but my friend said something that got me thinking. We are going to see Twilight in the dollar theater tomorrow and she was telling me she hasn't seen Twilight since she read the book, (she saw the movie with no knowledge of the books whatsoever) and she said that once she read the books she understood it way more. I see what she's saying. If you haven't read the books the movie would be quite confusing. Especialy with Edwards reactions and things. You have no idea what is happening! Do you think that could have been avoided a little better?? Maybe that is a reason that some people who haven't read the books don't like it very much. They are like what the heck is going on here?!?!? Why does he look like he is going to puke??? (when edward is trying to hold his breath when bella walks into biology) people that hadn't read it where like.... why is he doing that and people that had read it where like oh there he goes trying to hold his breath and not kill her? Do I make sense?

Amazing! The article pretty much sums up what I thought about the deleted scenes too. Those scenes definitely should have been included in the movie. They would have made the movie so much better.

I think ALL of the deleted scenes should have been in the movie. And the left out alot of the romantice scenes with edward and bella that were in the book.

I think the conversation with Charlie at the diner would've fit very well into the movie, and it wouldn't have slowed the pace. Of course, throughout the movie you don't really see Bella cook as much as she does in the books, so I guess she did that on purpose. The racy dream sequence was better left out of the movie. It might depict Bella as just being attractive to Edward when we all know it's much more than that. And the whole finger in the mouth thing? Someone say AWKWARD! I mean, seriously, guys, it was pretty weird.

I think if there were a scene with them actually saying 'I Love You' to each other, it should have been in the film. Its like one minute theyre in the meadow and the next scene shes saying the "about three things..." line. Maybe some other stuff should have gotten edited out, so that we could have seen more of that. But then again...books never fully translate onto the big screen too well.

The deleted scenes should not have been cut! So many of the best lines in the book are cut out! I bought the DVD yesterday and I am a little disappointed that Catherine. Also even if the deleted scenes would have "slowed the movie down" then they could have put ALL of them in Special features or at least some of the appropriate ones. Catherine has no concept of how much those lines mean to the fans of twilight they show so much of the storyline! In my personal opinion the movie is WAY too fast. I mean it doesn't even last two hours. Wot a disappointment! I agree with everything that missy said. and I do get her point!
I so hope they get their butts in gear for the next one!

Also if you've seen the movie but you havent read the book. READ IT! If you have done that read "Midnight Sun" (*swoon*) and then read twilight again you will understand Edward soooo much more. Plus he is so cute when in "Midnight Sun" he wraps his arms around his knees. Its so human! and also when Bella says his name whilst she sleeps and his emotions are so deep! As well as that you get to know more about tanya and also you find out more about Edward and Alice's relationship. they are adorable!!!

On the DVD set, there's a deleted scene missing. I saw it on a show - it's Bella's first day at school and she's sitting next to Edward in class. He suddenly stands up, grabs her from behind and bites her - it's his imagination of course. Where is it on the DVD?

Ofcourse, ok this is why. Once the movie was it...I was like" are you serious". I was so ashamed and so mad. I wish they really put the deleted scene. It would have been so much better than before. Hope they put the whole movie together in new moon. 'Cause I would have to read again the whole series of twilight to calm me down.

OMG ABSOLUTELY! Thoses deleated scences should hve been in the movie! i wached the movie first and then read the book! i was like wow there is a lot of differences between the two! I hope they have the next movie similar to the book! I refuse to read the next book just incase they do the same thing as they did with Twilight! I just dont want to be disappointed! I LOVE TWILIGHT SOO MUCH!!! I have watched the movie 10 times and still love watching it! I am going on my 2nd time reading the first b

I agree with everone here they should have put the deleted scenes in the movie i agree with the walking in the woods part but leave out the finger biting. bella does know how he has to fight to keep from hurting her. the meadow scene should have been like it was in the book that is where they connected the most. i think they should have showed them sitting together in the cafeteria. i have read all of teh books and midnight son. i wish twilight was done better. they left out a lot of important info.
i think chris weitz wil do a heck of a better job than catherine did. i hope the other movies will be a lot better than the first one is. the deleted scenes wasn't racy compared to what the teenagers are doing today they already know about everything. probably more than some adults know. the kissing scene wasn't racy think they should have put both kisses in there.

The film left out lots of really nice scene's such as, in the lunch hall, most of the meadow scene and the 2nd kiss. I really do with they put the deleted scene's in cause it would have made the film even better and make it stick to the book more. But i dont get the bit where Bella outs her finger in Edward's mouth and he bites it.. surely shouldn't she become a vampire if he bit her? Anyway, except from that i really did enjoy the film and book equally as much. Can't wait till November 20th! :D xx
