The Twilight saga versus "True Blood" drama has been a fun talking point, but enough is enough. Anna Paquin, who plays Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series seems to agree.
"It seems kind of funny...just because two things happen to end up being released around the same time, it's not like we all got together beforehand and had a chat about how we're going to make sure vampires had a comeback," Paquin offers. "But from the way people ask about it, you'd think that we'd all had sort of a sit-down. But it's coincidence, really [laughs]."
The only point of addition that probably should be made to this answer is the fact that those "questions" are almost exclusively asked to stars of True Blood like Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Alexander Skarsgard, and others. I have yet to read the sentiments of a Twilight star on the True Blood series.
That said, the dynamics of the discussion are very one-sided, and it is causing a riff between fans of the two series - especially from the perspective of Twilight fans. This animosity is rather unnecessary, so, perhaps, the debate should come to a close now that nearly each and every castmember from True Blood has weighed in on the subject.

True Blood has changed the way americans as a whole view the vampire society the real question seems to be is how to real vampires feel about twilight and true blood no royalties have yet to be received
True Blood sucks. Anna Paquin sucks. STEPHEN MOYER SUCKS. Every cast member in True Blood sucks. Anyone affiliated with True Blood sucks.
T W I L I G H T R U L E S ! ! !
So yeah, suck on that. =D
Not sure why the actors on True Blood seem so annoyed by Twilight. Like they have anything to fear as far as ratings go???!! I love Twilight and love True Blood, but the two book series are very different. Twilight is a romance beyond any other ... I'm such a fan. True Blood is fun but very adult and is for a very different audience. I think Stephenie and Charlaine are both excellent authors (me being from Arkansas, I have to boast on Charlaine, too), but Twilight will always be number one in my heart. Now, what I really want to know is: when Vampire Diaries hits the small screen, how will the fans of both series feel about any possible friction, if it does happen??? I'm just starting to read Vampire Diaries: The Awakening, and I'm so stoked about it already. It's such a great book!
I personally love both series... one is sweet and innocent while the other is very sexy and fun!! They both have their entertainment value and shouldnt be made to compete!!
Off topic, off topic, off topic
Hey True Blood is not the same as Twilight at all, Twilight is more for kinds nothing more
It's very simple.
Twilight is for kids.
True Blood is for grown-ups.
Really? Really? It's a series and a movie. Why fight over which one is better? It's fantasy, and they are both very good, but honestly, what's the big deal?
Verony must be a {pre}teenie.
Anyway, I prefer True Blood over Twilight. Why? As stated before, True Blood is for grown-ups, Twilight is for kids.
I love both. My only issue is that stephanie meyer released twilight a while after the charline harris books had been out, and the two plots are a little to similar. Edward can't read bellas thoughts and sookie can't read bills? sam and jacob both transform into furry friends and i just think it's weird. i love stephanie but i'm afraid that she ripped of charline.
Twilight is for kids? Think again, yes True Blood is more er "mature" in content and Twilight more "innocent" if you at the sex stuff. But no it is not just for kids. I do agree with the author, that this "debate" or whatever is one sided, how bout getting some Twilight cast members talking about True Blood?
I personally do not care for True Blood, I do prefer Twilight but that is just me, I won't diss a series cos it is not my taste but I would like to hear the Twi-stars comment about True Blood, to even out the debate, so to speak, Anna Paquin had the most well thought comment about this though, I prefer her comments to her boyfriend Stephen Moyer.
I am from the UK, an adult and I adore the twilight books and the movie. I have not yet experienced True Blood as it starts here in the UK in 2 weeks, I am looking forward to trying it. To be honest though, I would not have known anything about it if these actors had not been making all these comparisons. So for them, to keep their comments in the news helps to raise the status of the TV series. I have seen some you tube clips of the programme, it looks dark and a little 2 dimensional for me at the mo... but I am still looking forward to trying it.
Im 15 and ive watched and read both.
I dont like Twilight
I LOVE LOVE LOVE True Blood
True Blood is more concentrated and intense than Twilight.
Twilight is just boring, the only character that actually develops is Jacob. Half the books were describing Edward, his coldness, and his glitter skin.
It's maturity I guess. Which is why I dont understand Twilight mums..
Why don't we discuss a safer topic ? Like the hotness that is Eric ?
wow...true blood is good, twilight is good.
you really can't compare the two because true blood is more about the drama and the action, as where twilight is more about the passion and emotions between a love so strong it withstands anything...yeah the realationship in true blood is sweet, but you can really feel the relationship in twilight, its not boring and its not really for kids. You can't really say just because true blood is more violent and sexy its for adults cause i know kids who watch things that worse things, and i know alot of grown ups that love twilight over true blood. So i would like to say that the two are great stories for any age group. Its enjoyable, and remember this crap isnt really so no need to get all hostile on ppl for liking one more than the other. Be respectful.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE True Blood.
As for Twilight, Kristin Stewart ruined that series for me. Can't can't can't stand the girl and the character she plays in Twilight is so wimpy and pathetic. Perhaps if I had read the book before I saw the movie.....
I don't understand why people are saying that Twilight is for kids, when it deals with basic human emotion that applies to both adults and teens. If it were just for kids, you wouldn't have hundreds of thousands of adults who are completely taken by the series.
I am a huge Twilight fan. It was my step into reading fantasy of this sort. I was left craving more of the magic Twilight created. What I found is that there are tons of books out there that are so similar, that I have started to greatly dislike Stephanie Meyers for it. In particular because of an interview where she said she didn't have to do any research when writing the story, it just came to her. Well if you read around enough, you will see that is just not the case. A theif by any other name.
IN the same token, I have watched True blood and found it to be over the top for me. Close to pornographic. I dont need to see Anna Paquins entire naked body.
I'll take the sweet side of Twilight, thanks.
Let's face it ladies, there are no real vampires in Twilight. It's a great fun story for young adults though!
i've read all of the twilight books and watched true blood as well and i dont think that it is practical to compare the two.
they exist within completely different realms, true blood is sexy and exciting and the material is more adult, i mean it deals with ideas of prejudice and racism. while twilight is ecxiting it is more closed in and intimate due to the style of narration. stephanie wrote a great story but in truth it is not grammatically or stylistically mature. they are just both really different and dont need to be compared just because they both revolve around vampires.
Thanks Veronica for your well thought out and mature post. You've completely changed my mind about True Blood with your informative synopsis of the True Blood story.
That being said, my suggestion to most posters here that are opposed to the more mature subject matter in True Blood is to read the books. I think you'll find them to be just as much about the human condition as it exists in the vampire race as well as the human race as the Twighlight books are. The fact that True Blood as it is brought to the screen being tailored to a mature audience is undeniable.
Thanks to Stephanie Meyer for giving me something I can actually get my teenage daughter to read, and thanks to HBO for giving me something I can enjoy as well.
My brother works as a grip boy for true blood and he says it's horrible and that he prefers twilight
Got something to say?
