'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' producer Wyck Godfrey says the story cannot be changed to draw in guys

Wyck Godfrey

In the pursuit of an expanded audience for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - namely, to attract the male demographic - there are a few allowable measures to be taken, but one of them, according to producer Wyck Godfrey's recent feature in TIME Magazine is not changing the story.

TIME posited that Eclipse has created a window for the Twilight series films to welcome in a new, increasingly male audience what with the "noticeably more macho" trailers, a director - David Slade - who is famed for his male-friendly films in the past (who stated that the script for Eclipse "was a d**n good story"), and "tantalizing starlets like Kristen Stewart, Julia Jones and Nikki Reed."

While considerations, TIME explains, were made about the concept of having the wolves (including she-wolf "Leah Clearwater") remain tastefully nude for a sequence, nothing substantial was ever on the table for the changing.

"The most important thing in doing a book adaptation of a beloved series is, you have to make the movie work for the people who love the books," said the astute and historically very fan-friendly Wyck Godfrey. "We stick to the core of the books — and expand beyond that. But what you cannot do is change the story. People would kill you." Truer words, eh?

He's a smart guy. I don't understand what this crap is about getting guys to watch it WHO CARES? I'm sure there are many guys out there who enjoy them and well we can make guys watch it haha We that power lol ...
What I don't get is the guys who hate Twilight because they look like diamonds and it's a love story ? What you'd rather watch some dumb romantic comedy? That's lame. I just think their jealous because women rather spend their time with fictional characters lol

who cares about guys, their tastes are usually catered for in most hollywood offerings.

one thing the makes Twilight different is that for a series of books/films with a cult following the majority of fans are female... so who cares if the story is more girly and doesn't appeal to macho guys - that's just the way it is and i'm glad they have stayed as true as possible!

I saw the movie last night and I have to say that out of the three, this one stayed the most true to the book. I am taking my husband on Saturday to see Eclipse, and I even hooked us up with VIP seats. To say the least, he is looking forward to nice seats and to see the movie his wife has been waiting for with a bated breath. I will let you know what he thinks ;o)
