At this year's Comic-Con, The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz was a man of many words - words which laid out what would be small, trivial details for most but which for Twilight fans are of urgent and paramount importance.
A couple of such details were revealed in Weitz's interview with Time.
According to the interview, Twilight series author Stephenie Meyer will not be making a cameo in New Moon, and the reason, he says, was a simple oversight.
But now I feel bad about it -- as though I intended not to. But I had kind of forgotten that she had a cameo in the first one, and she never asked, she's very quiet and gracious about it. I don't know if she wanted to or not. I probably should have.
Weitz also revealed that "There will be lots of sparkling" in the film (presumably referring to the so-called instance of "CGI boot camp" going on with the spotted Edward we saw in Montepulciano).
He also spoke of the film studio's psuedo-personality-position in the Twilight playing field. Said he, "Summit understands that it's Stephenie Meyer's world, and really it's about recreating the experience the reader has, in some kind of faithful manner. Creating a picture that doesn't violate too badly the picture they have in their minds."
Finally, Weitz revealed that the film is pretty much done, as it must be "lock[ed by] August 30."
The full interview is available here.
Interesting, no? Are you surprised that Meyer will not be making an appearance? Anything else? Comment below and let us know!

That's really too bad Stephanie won't be getting a cameo - she's looking really good. Gee, can't they green screen her into a scene. If they can make Edward sparkle....
right.. that's what i was thinking.
I don't think it's a big deal if she doesn't have a cameo. She expressed apprehension doing a cameo in the first one because she "didn't want to mess up [the movie]." That's great that the film is done and will be locked by end of August. We might see some more marketing beyond a second trailer as a result of the finished product.
i got distracted when i saw her in twilight that i missed part of the scene!
I only noticed stephanie the 3rd time I went to c it!!!!
Time:5.20pm (irish time)
I was hoping she would make an appearance in New Moon! would've been fun! C. Weitz should have asked her
I wondered what those spots were all over Edward in all the released pics from the square. I knew he didn't have all those moles, so they were put in place to create CGI sparkle later?
I don't think it's a big deal. If she wanted a cameo she could have asked, plus she can still get a cameo in Eclipse.
it would have been good to see her in this one. but i think maybe she is okay with it. its good to here that its almost done- 11/20/09 can't get here fast enough.
i think it would've been cool for her to be like in the Volterra scene as just a bystandard who turns around when Bella bumps into her, that would've been cool.
I'm happy that Chris is really devoted to this and is staying true to the book, so much he forgot about Stephenie's comeo in the first movie lol. But no i'm happy that Chris stayed true to the books.
Nicole,
yes they are for CGI, they make Rob sparkle
Her cameo in the first movie completely wrecked the pacing of the scene. Hitchcock's cameos didn't. For the "author" to appear in a cameo, there shouldn't be any pausing of the camera, nor anybody in the scene directly addressing him or her.
i didnt even see her till i got the DVD lol I was like "hey thats the author" lol whatev New Moon comes out 5 days after my bday!!! perfect timing!!! I hope/know the movie lives up to all the hype!
I agree with sparky, her cameo disrupted the scene, which is definitely not her mistake, but the director's. I so dearly wish chris w. will prove to be a better choice of a director....
Not surprised. Glad that it's not going to be like a Stephen King movie where they put it a totally unnecessary scene just to he can make a cameo. Way to be humble, SM!
Thanks Chris Weitz ! All Montepulciano love you.The square in the movie seems wonderfull like it is.Thanks to the cast ,in italy you were so kindly and cute ,you seem very normal guys, you are amazing.
im glad she doesn't have a cameo, for the movies sake. it would be awkward to try to fit her in somewhere. the focus should be more on her vision with the book and less on her appearing in the product.
the edward's "moles" are something for the special effect. He haven't in the scene we can see in comicon
this shows ABSOLUTELY no respect for the writer. no wonder she's not doing press on this thing.
they could've worked her into a scene as the same character in the first film.
Dear Stephanie,
My opinion:
Summit = the Volturi
hard, game playing, untrustworthy, cruel
1. Catherine out, 2. Rachelle out, 3. Slade in, 4. what NEXT to ruin it all?
After the Breaking Dawn I'm wishing Stephanie Meyer to write the next phase about getting rid of the Volturi (Summit) altogether.
We need another producer!
Please, help, Stephanie!
