Should the first 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' teaser trailer appear at the Oscars?

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Summit Ent.

If you're like most Twilight fans, you presently await the first teaser trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with bated breath.

Of course, the first teaser for The Twilight Saga: New Moon came out at the MTV Movie Awards in May. That was around six months before the film's release. Since The Twilight Saga: Eclipse releases June 30th, 2010, it's nearing that six month mark right now . . .

So, one writer's suggestion (from The Hollywood Reporter) that the first teaser should be revealed during the Academy Awards ceremony (which will take place on March 7, 2010) might not sit well with you and/or all of those wishing to see the first teaser as soon as possible.

Of course, the suggestion comes from the angle of boosting ratings and viewership for the ceremony itself - in other words, not for the promotion of the film.

Can you imagine what kind of interest there would be if Summit revealed the first glimpse of June's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" during the telecast? Actually, we don't have to speculate. Exclusive footage of "New Moon" -- including the first shots of the film's shirtless werewolves -- aired during the MTV Movie Awards in June, and the show's ratings shot up 92% in the target demo, its best performance in five years.

You've certainly taken note by now of the fact that The Twilight Saga: New Moon was a promotional avenue for the next Critic's Choice Awards, so it's not entirely impossible, but isn't it a little iffy that a film which will almost certainly get snubbed by the Academy should bail them out? Your thoughts?

Noo!!! I can't freakin wait that long for a freakin teaser. That's when the FULL trailer should be out. March 17 is like 3 months before it even comes out. COME ON they can't make us wait THAT long!!!!

While I think that would be a *fun* tie in with the Oscars {I heard the suggestion would be to premiere other well anticipated trailers at the event as well} I feel the Academy is a bit too *snooty* to go the *MTV Award show* route, if you will.

I feel if the Oscars are truly fishing for ratings then they will hop on the back of the Twilight phenomenon and show the trailer. Until then, I would not mind a few more *stills* to crave my thirst.

Overall, I am just happy that we do not have to wait until Nov. 2010 for Eclipse. Breaking Dawn might be a different story on the wait, sadly.

I love Twilight. But the Oscars is no place for a movie trailer premiere of any kind, let alone Eclipse.

Having a trailer shown during the Oscars may not be a new medium for a production to do its promotions. Perhaps how it is presented and introduced before it it shown will create a stronger connection with the audience providing them with a better opinion of the movie.

PS. My apologies for my last post of Adoring Kristen collages. Got way to excited and lost perspective.

Well the problem with them releasing Eclipse so soon after New Moon,it has put them in a bit of a predicament.. New Moon has hardly left the movies yet, they need to let the hype settle, otherwise it will take the light away from New Moon, so they cant release something too soon. I LOVE the Twilight SAGA and i dont mean this in a disrespectful way, but i dont think a teaser trailer is really appropriate at the oscars. I think they should start around February time....and not give too much away this time, like they did with New Moon, which appealed to us, the fans who have read the books and who knew what was going to happen anyway. I even had one friend say that he had seen all the trailers and it felt like he had already seen the movie...I dont know what do you think? (I think ive strayed from the topic a little :P )

I think they should show the trailer during Robs movie Remember me. I and going to see it when it comes out and I would love to see the trailer fore Eclipse. Do you know how many people would go see Remember Me if they promised to show a preview of Eclipse?

As much as all of us think the Twilight movies are Oscar-worthy, I think they should keep the movies to their target audience: the MTV-aged folks. I could imagine during the VMAs when a Twilight or New Moon artist is about to present something. That would make more sense. Or maybe even the Grammys. Something music or younger-audience movie related.

N-O, No!! They should have nominated Sheen for the character "Aro" for best supporting male..that's how they could have gotten ratings..and he deserved a nod for that I think.

Oscars showing the Eclipse trailer for ratings? Not likely but not impossible.

Rachel's post is the most realistic though - the final trailer will get attached to Remember Me - still RP but more importantly still Summit. That alone will bump Remember Me's box office just a bit, so that's smart business right there.

I was hoping for the teaser at the end of NM's credits ala Matrix/Back to the Future 2 but that didn't happen. NM's box office is just about done (its at $276M now and it'll stop at the 280s) so they can start the Eclipse train soon. It definitely should come out right after new year.

Premiere viewing of any Twilight trailier should be kept to there target audience on events like VMA..Teen Choice..or even Viewers Choice. The Oscars are too much of a stuffed shirt event to first view the trailer.

I don't think it should appear at the Oscars. I'd like to see a trailer before March! Rumors are that the trailer is being released tomorrow but I highly doubt that. I think they will release it in Jan/Feb. Or before the remember me movie so they can make more money

Okay first, I'm sorry Sheen doesn't deserve an Oscar. There are so many other actors who have put their heart and soul into the movies...I'm a Twi-fan but I'm also realistic. The man who played Col. Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds is probably going to be nominated and win.

As for when the trailer should be released. I think in Jan/Feb but not before the Oscars. It should also be released online..so those of us who can't see the Oscars can watch it.

It would be perfect but still it is a little late for all of us who really want to see the trailer BUT still it is a good idea but if you show it during the new years eve party in New York we'd start off the new year with an exciting trailer

I personally don't think it should appear at the oscars. Critics will most likely snub this movie aside anyways, just like they did both Twilight and New Moon. Why should the oscar's ratings boost when the movie itself won't even receive anything else in return? I't not likely to win an award and critics will eventually chew it up. I am a twilight fan and i'm anticiapting the tralier, but I think I can wait a bit longer. I don't think it should premiere at the oscars though. It wouldn't be fair for the actors to boost the oscar's ratings and then be criticized for their work.

I Think it would be perfect but its driving me CRAZY to see the book come to life. I loved the Twilight movie, New moon. I am wondering how Eclispe can top the action of the 2 movies. I loved the book Eclispe in fact it was actually my favorite book of the Series. I hope they put the scene where Jasper Hale tells his story of how he became a vampire. I LOVE the Twilight Series. I can not WAIT much longer to see the Trailer for Eclispe. Please show it SOON I am really going CRAZY this is tourture. I can not wait until June 30 let alone wait until they put out the trailer. PLEASE SHOW THE TRAILER SOON I AM BEGGING!

so none of the Twilight series movies are good enough to be nominated for an Oscar, but they should show a preview of it to help boost the Oscar's ratings? What a f.....g joke!!!! if they want it so bad to boost ratings, then they are acknowleging it's popularity but choose to ignore that when nominating for an award!!!! how frustrating and insulting to everyone involved in Twilight!!!!
