Peter Facinelli wins Twitter bet: Twitter admits it caused back-ups, Rob DeFranco concedes (video)

Half a million, quarter of a million, four hundred thousand, two hundred thousand … This was the back-and-forth that was seen this week on The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Nurse Jackie star Peter Facinelli’s twitter page after his blitzing week on the social networking site.

What started as a friendly wager between Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco grew into an absolute worldwide phenomenon.

Everyone from Extra to E! Online to Ryan Seacrest (and, of course, Twilight fansites - tirelessly) worked to contribute followers to Facinelli's campaign to keep his actor's chair back.

Even Facinelli went to extreme measures. In an interview with MTV, Facinelli even suggested that fans of Robert Pattinson would benefit from getting involved as he had once sat in the chair (thusly adding his DNA to the fabric), and since one follower would receive the cloth as a prize for the win, it is conceivable that in the near future cloning developments would lead to the ability to clone Robert Pattinson - solely by helping him to win the bet by following him on Twitter. What a stitch!

The result?

Thousands upon thousands joined suit and followed Facinelli on Twitter.

So many so, in fact, that even Twitter had a meltdown in response to the vastness of followers.

Says Rob DeFranco, "Peter was getting so many followers so fast, the system was interpreting them as spam." Continues DeFranco, Twitter admitted "we have been working on this decision for some time, we suspected Peter won many days ago."

With that concession, DeFranco must accept the terms of his loss.

Included in Facinelli's win is not only a sweet piece of Twilight memorabilia pie for one lucky follower, but also something we can all enjoy: DeFranco will have to dance, on video (to be posted by Facinelli for all to see), in a bikini on Hollywood Boulevard to Facinelli's favorite "Single Ladies."

That event, according to Facinelli's victory video, will take place on Tuesday, June 30th. More details on the win and the consequences of that win are available in this video and will be coming in more detail once they are made available.

Congratulations to Peter Facinelli and to his followers for making this one happen, and regards to Mr. DeFranco (who said "I don't think I will wake my wife and tell her this, just maybe mention casually," and "mention it like "hey, honey pass the butter, oh yeah I am dancing on Hollywood blvd in a bikini on 6/30").
