Summit Entertainment has been surprising Twilight fans left and right lately with its relatively constant cast-updates of late for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Though no official word has been given yet, we feel sure that Easter Sunday's news that Michael Sheen will portray the Volturi Aro is as reliable as were the reports that Dakota Fanning would be joining the cast as little (but powerful) Jane.
As we discussed yesterday (see here), there are still a number of spots up for grabs. Taking the rumors that Justine Wachsberger will be Gianna (the human secretary for the Volturi) to be true, what's left?
First, we have Alec. Alec is the second part of the dynamic deadly duo of Alec and Jane. He, who is also a member of the Volturi guard, is a direct contrast in his extra capacities as a vampire. Like Edward, Alice, and Jane, he has an additional power - aside from being unbelievably strong, fast, and lethal - and that is that he can virtually erase all sensory experience from his prey. While Jane puts the force of indescribable pain upon her victims, Alec takes it all away - leaving his victim ripe for the taking with no clue whatsoever as to what is even happening to him or her. The tricky part? Alec is supposed to look very much like Jane. This means that whoever is selected to play Dakota Fanning's Jane counterpart will need to look like, well, Dakota Fanning.
Second, we have the forgettable but important nonetheless (forgettable only because of his lack of speech throughout the series) Marcus, the third of the ancient Volturi leadership (alongside Caius (to be played by Jamie Campbell-Bower) and Aro (to be played by, well you know, Michael Sheen)). Marcus' ability is rather extraordinary as well - he can sense the ties that bind relationships like Edward and Bella's or the Cullen family in general. This proves to be a handy tool when it comes to spotting loyalties and the ties that bind, and coupled with another Volturi guard member, Chelsea - who can break these ties that bind with her own extra ability, Marcus can prove to be a quite powerful adversary. So what does Marcus look like? I imagine him as an older, heavier man, but many fans say that they see Marcus as younger, like Jamie Campbell-Bower.
Third, we have Seth and Leah Clearwater. Though their roles are albeit practically nonexistent in New Moon (a mere mention or two, at best), they come into play at a much greater level later in the series. Seth, who becomes (spoiler) a friend to the Cullens, is young, Native American, and sweet. Leah, on the other hand, is sassy, strong, and has a bit of the blues throughout the series. She (spoiler) who becomes the only female portion of the wolfpack, becomes a vital part of the Cullens' life near the end of the series and is one of the few (Seth and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner)) who breaks away from their allegiance to Sam Uley to allow Jacob Black (the "true" Alpha of the former pack) to take their lead.
Finally, we have some side characters whose role in the films will be fairly small, but important nonetheless. Take Mrs. Clearwater, for example. Though she, like Leah and Seth, is a small role if at all in New Moon, she'll be more important to the continued series, as, ahem, her and Charlie Swan (Billy Burke) make their acquaintence. Or, for example, Ben (Angela's later love interest). Rumor has had it that this character won't be brought to life on the big-screen, but in the films, Angela (played by Christian Serratos) abandons her half-interest in Eric Yorkie (Justin Chon) and starts a long-lasting romance with the sweet and lovable Ben. In Midnight Sun, even, the draft portions show Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Emmett Cullen (Kellan Lutz) playing a little gotcha game with Ben in return for Angela's kindness - though few expect this to make its way into the film series. Another important set of characters, as we discussed, will be Felix and Demetri, more members of the Volturi guard with talents beyond mere (pssht) vampirism. Felix makes his first debut in New Moon and should be expected to be seen in The Twilight Saga: New Moon as well. This dark, Emmett-big guy is rather intimidating. Demetri, who is an excellent tracker, puts Alice (Ashley Greene) and Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) on their feet and Bella on a wild goose chase in Breaking Dawn, and should also make an appearance in New Moon.
So who do you think should play these roles? I'll start. I think that someone like Viggo Mortensen (though he'd probably never go for it) would be an excellent Demetri and that Gerard Butler might suit the part well as Felix. Who would you cast? Comment below and let us know!

OMHO, Jamie Campbell-Bower should play Alec. He is all wrong for Caius - he should definitely be older and more manly
in all honesty, someone like Vin diesel or Ving Rhaimes(i know felix is never described as black, but neither was Laurent) should play Felix, Gerard butler would probabl make a decent marcus or Demetri, and i Agree with Gigi, about Jamie Campbell-Bower.

Maybe not Vin Disel (love him much but for another kind of movies). Have you ever considered Jonathan Rhys Mayer for Aro/Caius/Marcus? He got that cruelty in his eyes...

Melissa said she didn't write Leah Clearwater into New Moon. I don't think we'll be seeing her this movie -- at all. Makes me think Seth is unlikely in New Moon, too.
In the movie, Catherine said they'd combined several characters - think Lauren Malloy - she's included in Jessica's character in the first movie. I have a feeling that, instead of casting a Ben, that they'll add Ben to Eric's role as well, keeping Eric as Angela's love interest. I kind of hope not, since we both know how cute Ben and Ang are, but you never know - what's another new character in the grand scheme of things? :D
Jon Rhys I always thought would be perfect. I LOVE Gerard (top 3 fave actors) but I don't think I'd want to see him in this. Ving is definitely an interesting choice - I never thought about it, but now that it's been put into my head... :) Jamie I don't think should play Caius. It just doesn't fit. He should go with being Alec - I think him and Dakota have similar enough features that, with makeup, will make them look close enough.
For the part of Aro, I peroanlly would love to see Jack Nicholson in that role. He could do the creepy smiley Italian thing down to a tee--and I have heard that Rob Pattinson would rally like to meet him--so that chemistry on set should be awesome, don't you think??
Jack Nicholson is great - one and only. But, do you really see him in Twilight???
Gerard Butler is my dream actor. I would totally swoon if he played ANY part in these movies. lol. Im not sure about Viggo Mortensen, though. I thought Johnny Depp would utterly amazing, but he wouldnt go for it. Too big an actor-too much money. I was dissapointed about Caius- hopefully the boy(yes, little boy) will be able to play the vicious, cruel role he presents in breaking dawn. Maybe Max Thieriot for Alec. he's cute and blonde and kinda a Dakota look-alike.
some other good vampire-ish people who might be good i found straight from peter pan. Jeremy Sumpter(alec), Rachel Hurd-Wood(chelsea), and Jason Issacs- he would be amazing as any of the vampires. he's got those creepy evil, kinda, eyes.
What about Henry Cavill? He could play someone. I know he was Stephenie first choice for Edward. And he is unbelievable handsome and did a great job as Charles Brandon in The Tudors

Julie Walters would make a good Sue Clearwater but i dont think Vanessa Hudgens would make a good Leah Clearwater.

well, everyone should keep tabs on all of these names ppl are coming up with. come breaking dawn, they are gonna need a whole freakin load of hot, vampire-y ppl to play parts...alot alot alot.

I don't know that casting Leah and Seth Clearwater, or their mother is important for New Moon. As I understand it, they are not even in the script, which makes sense as they are really only mentioned in the book. So, casting for those three characters will be left to the director of Eclipse.
The four biggest left to cast, in my opinion, are Marcus, Alec, Dimitri, and Felix. They are all part of Breaking Dawn, with Dimitri and Felix appearing in Eclipse as well. So, I think those are the only big characters left to cast.
As to who asked if Quil was cast.....yes, he is being portrayed by Tyson Houseman.
I think felix should be Jensen Ackles because you can tell that felix has a sense of humor and a smart ass so I think he will be good for that part.
kind of a diss to the original cast.they're getting bigger names than the original cast.why are they afraid jacob black wouldn't carry the film like pattinson did (who is btw awesome)as bella's love interest? ...
yeah jacob black got big.but what kind of sexiness can you expect from a 16 yr old who doesn't even have a GF IRL.Steven Strait would've been awesome for the role even Michael Copon if his acting got a bit more serious.
Bottom line is..jacob black has to be at leaast at the same level as ed cullen or else the movie will really suck!jacob black's acting really was terrible in twilight.not his fault though.but his fans set him up for failure big time.this is going to put more strain on jacob black because all those big names will outshine him.sometimes fan shouldn't be overtaken by blind emotions but rather with balanced and realistic judgement.
i think hayden christensen would fit any of the volturri character as well, since he kinda have that dark side with him... and no not because he was in star wars, thats beside the point, but i think he would be great to play marcus or any of the vampire character...

thats because we didnt really get to see leahs character evolve until eclipse and breaking dawn... so there's really no point of casting her at this very moment

He would be very good. he was amazing in Sweeney Todd. he is 16 so would be good with Dakota.

I know seth doesn't really have much of a part in new moon, but i can't get tyler posey out of my head for that part! he is so adorable and he is at the right age. i thought he should play jacob until i saw taylor.
i think alexander ludwig from race to witch mounatin would play a good alec. and him and dakota look sort of the same so they can pass as twins.

I think it's interesting there is no mention of casting theDenali clan when Laurent's relationship with Irina factors into New Moon so much.
I think Tom Felton ( Draco Malfoy ) would make a good Alec ( he looks like Dakota Fanning alot to me ), or Benjamin Mckenzie. Also I think the guy who played Victor Crum in Harry Potter would be a good Demitri and Jensen Ackles as Felix. I think Jason Isaacs would have made a better Caius than the kid they cast to play him. Also Taylor Kitsch would be a great Quill.

well i dont know who should play the roles but there are a few characters that i feel need to be cast for new moon that are not listed above...
1. the Denali clan: Irina's relation ship with laurent causes a problem in eclipse and breaking dawn so it would be necessary to introduce the clan during new moon
2. harry clearwater: when edward calls to see if bella really did die jacob states that charley is at the funeral (Harry's) which edward assumes to be Bella's funeral thus causing him to go to the volturi
I would love to see Alexander Ludwig from Race to Witch Mountain play the role of Alec! He would be great! I also would love to see Hayden Christensen play the role of one of the other vampires.
ok. im the one who chose dakota fanning as jane in the first place. i was out searching the whole time for ppl for this, and she was perfect. so i posted her on my blog on myspace. and now shes in! woohoo.. so im good w choosing this stuff.
and since ive read the books a dozen times i hav to say, that for sure i have:
Felix- Jason Isaacs. he's perfect. cute, kinda gives you the goosebumps somtimes. perfect!
Demetri- could be Hayden Christensen
Leah Clearwater- is kinda a tie between Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. (cuz shes supposed to b n her 20's)
Seth Clearwater culd b played by either: Austin Miller, Taylor Kitsch, or Tyler Posey.
and Marcus. well he's supposed to kinda look bored all the time. show no signs wat so ever about ne thing. so maybe johnny depp. but idk if he wuld actually fit in..lol.
and Jaimie Campbell-Bower..well sorry to say. but he's TOO young to play Caius. way too young. and Vanessa hudgens better not b ne where n here. cuz if she is ill immediatly think that stupid highschool musical..(yuck)

Alec has many to choose from: Justin Chatwin, Austin Miller, Thomas Sangster, Jeremy Sumpter, Ed Speleers, Haley Osment, or Edward Sanders. i know. thats alot. but good selection sorta.
and for Aro Cauis and marcus. these others can b either i think- Jeremy Irons, Garrett Hedlund and Elijah Wood. (maybe elijah idk. he's just soo cute and white and he was fantastic in lord of the rings. never know!)
ooh! and Quil! he should NOT be played by this Tyson Houseman person. Quil is supposed to be barrel chest kind of guy. this guy is pathetic looking. not to be rude. but he does Not portray one of my favorite Quiluetes. nope. not happening!

I picture Demitri as looking very Italian. I think the man who played Samantha's beautiful neighbor, Dante ?, in the "Sex and the City" movie (current Dancing with the Stars contestant)would make an excellent Demitri.
Alec- Camron Bright from the movie Birth would make a great twin for Dakota Fanning. He's got big, spooky eyes. Alexander Ludwig would be my 2nd choice.
Marcus- Ian Somerhalder from the first season of Lost. Great eyes.
Felix- Taylor Kitch from Friday Night Lights. I'd love to see him go up against Emmett.

ok yes the Denali clan become a big part later in the series but i don't see why they need to cast them now. i think they would need to focus on the emotional ranges in this movie and not so much on seeing how many new people they can introduce. they can always mention them in this one and then cast them in 3 or maybe wait till 4. it's not that important right now. and Harry doesn't really need to be cast he's really not seen that much and if he is he can just be an extra you see at the dinner at billy's but that's all. the big part with harry is after he's dead. so harry s not a big deal.
Seth- i think Tyler poseyis perfect for Seth. that is so how i pictured him.
Alec-i think Tom Felton or Alexander Ludwig would be perfict
