'New Moon' changes the face of Comic-Con, or does it?

The Twilight Saga: New Moon will make Hall H at the Comic-Con event this Thursday practically unrecognizable.

According to Variety, last year's showing of six thousand fans to see the Twilight panel at Comic-Con, "cemented the reality that the face of Comic-Con has changed radically."

According to Variety,

The convention, which annually attracts 120,000 fans, had long been perceived as a show catering mostly to males interested in comicbooks and anything related to horror, sci-fi or fantasy.

But last year's event broadened its fanbase to include thousands of teen girls and moms. Comic-Con's audience had already grown over the years to a point where women made up 40% of its audience; last year's show considerably upped that figure.

But organizers have indicated that Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and its castmembers (including Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner) aren't the ones to thank for the increased demographic of showing.

Says Variety,

Comic-Con's organizers stress that "Twilight" shouldn't be given all the credit for expanding the demographic of attendees.

"More people know about the show," Glanzer said. "Our attendance has steadily increased since we started with 300 people in the early '70s."

But that's because of the types of projects Comic-Con has lured to the show.

"We have a lot of stuff for a lot of different people," Glanzer said. "The show is a place where the general public can meet and see the people who make the movies and television shows, comicbooks and games they love."

Among the films being promoted at Comic-Con this year are: Alice In Wonderland (Tim Burton), Avatar (James Cameron), District 9 (Peter Jackson), Princess And The Frog, Tron, Toy Story 3, A Christmas Carol (Robert Zemeckis), Iron Man 2, and many others.

I definately believe Twilight is resposible for the increase in females, both young and old, in attendance! Why is it that no one gives Twilight the credit it deserves??

I'm only going to comic-con to see New Moon and the cast. Before the Twilight Saga I would have never attend Comic-con!
