'New Moon' behind the scenes, Robert Pattinson, Chris Weitz, and plans for 'Breaking Dawn' revealed

The Sun Sentinel's Gina McIntyre got the chance to go behind the scenes of filming for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and had some very interesting information to report as a result of that visit.

Firstly, McIntyre took note of the work that Remember Me star Robert Pattinson was doing to prepare for his scenes of "flittering images." Says McIntyre, "the lanky English heartthrob stands in front of a tall, wide green screen murmuring a tender admonition, 'You promised me nothing reckless.' Motion capture cameras hurtle toward him across a length of track affixed to the stage floor, while a team of technicians studies his stance and the tilt of his head."

McIntyre also spoke with director Chris Weitz about his hopes for New Moon coming off of a dismal reception for his work in The Golden Compass. About The Golden Compass, McIntyre reveals, "'It's one of the great sadnesses of my life that it didn't turn out the way I intended it,' [Weitz] says. 'New Moon,' a story about surviving the ultimate heartbreak and loss, is Weitz's chance to heal his wounds and find a new creative path."

According to McIntyre,

Today, that vampire ruling council is ruminating over the fate of Edward and Bella. Walking forward with his arms extended, Aro, played by British actor Michael Sheen, sporting blood-red contact lenses, offers a vaguely sinister greeting to his reluctant guests. The scene is replayed over and over, with Pattinson at one point leaving the set to consult with Weitz about a particular line of dialogue.

Standing by the monitors, the pair run through a number of options, while Stewart sits on the floor looking a little bored as she waits for the cameras to resume rolling. After several minutes, Pattinson, wearing a long, red robe and fake bruises painted beneath his eyes, returns to his mark, and filming resumes.

"I promised the actors that no matter what, we would have time to discuss every single line," Weitz explains. "There was a line that he felt was repetitive, and Rob wasn't feeling where he was in the scene. We worked it out and came up with some alternate dialogue. I can work on the fly a bit because I'm a writer-director, which is helpful. I don't feel stuck or panicky when an actor is not down with a particular piece of dialogue."

Taylor Lautner had a few choice words for the journalist with regard to fans as well. Said he, according to the Sun Sentinel, "You're always experiencing the fans." "Sometimes it does get a little overwhelming."

Finally, McIntyre spoke with Wyck Godfrey, a producer on the Twilight series, about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. "Godfrey was mum as to specifics, saying only that everyone involved fully intends to make what would be the fourth movie."

The full story is available here, and it is a fantastic read.

Edward would have "bruises" from not feeding whilst Bella is pregnant...And why can't there be some suspense with these movies! I want to leave it till I am in the theatre to really get into it.

I feel exuberant knowing that they are still 'planning' to do the fourth movie. It will be tricky. Its the LONGEST book, and the most important! I dont know how Edward could have bruises, vampires never change except to show wear in their eyes to show hunger levels...LOL it will be interesting. November is NOT coming fast enough.

umm, twilight freak, you do realize Edward is just a character that Robert Pattinson portrays? Right? I mean, RPATZ in real life is not Edward Cullen. Just always remember that, ok? This is how MAD FANS are created. :)

They better do BD, Summit will be blacklisted if they don't.

Oh and FYI MANY fans are over the age of 14. I am 32 myself and have many online friends my age who are in love with the Saga. I am personally very excited to see Slade bring a more mature vision.

Amanda, i read in the Life Story Film Fantasy edition for New Moon in Stephenie's interview it says something along the lines of "i think people will understand Edward better once Midnight Sun is avaliable" i was wondering if that means that she's working on it or what because it caught my attention really fast, or if it was something from before Midnight Sun was leaked, but i dont think it is, i was just wondering if you have more information on that for us, all of us TwiHards are dying for Midnight Sun so if you could reply to this in the comments ASAP that would be great

    Peace, Love, Twilight

the bruises on edward just really makes it more interesting for me..i mean yeah there's stephenie's theory of vampires..but if you look in other movies..you can see that they can get up to scratches..well i hope weitz can redeem himself and makes this movie awesome..because the movie also has to redeem itself since twilight was a crappy movie

    AshleyGreeneFan,

I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I hear any buzz about 'Midnight Sun.' Unfortunately, no official commentary has come down the pike, so we're left with speculation at this time.

It's in New Moon more than once that Edward had bruise like shadows under his eyes from not feeding.

I so love Chris in every interview he has given regarding New Moon. I look forward to seeing his vision. I liked what he was able to do with Golden Compass. He would have been perfect for Twilight. You can tell that he really cares.

As for Spade, I will just have to wait and hope that the romance is not lost. There is plenty of it in Eclipse.

The saga will not be complete without it. Bella wants to be a vampire throughout the series, we need to see that happen!
