New editor added for 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse'

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Summit Ent.

A new editor, Entertainment Weekly announced, has been added to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's staff list.

"Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the uber-successful Twilight series, confirmed this morning that it has replaced Eclipse editor Art Jones with Nancy Richardson, the editor of Catherine Hardwicke’s original Twilight film," EW reports.

Summit still said that the material put together by David Slade is "very good" and that there is no "blame" being placed upon Art Jones, EW continues, but that the film "needed a stronger edit."

Presumably, with the trailer coming sometime next week and the film due in just a few short months, there is some pressure to get the approved cut together here in the near future.

You might recall that in late January, David Slade notified his Twitter followers that the film was going through its early "director's cut" stage. Shortly thereafter, though, he used the same medium to state that he was going back to editing to add "more EDWARD" to the film.

So, basically, at this stage in the game, in order to bring about a finished product that fans will be pleased with, the decision has been made to bring in an old face to the staff. I'll reserve judgment on the issue here because I have no doubt that the motive is to make the best movie possible, but your thoughts are absolutely welcome in the comments below.

I had feared when I heard that David Slade was announced as Director of 'The Twilight Saga Eclipse' that their may be too much emphasis of "HORROR" put into this film, and I think my fears may have been coming true. If indeed that is the case, then I for one am glad that Summit has stepped in and taken control of the problem! This saga is not a project left to director interpretation!

Ohoh. This does not bode well, I'm afraid.

Terrible idea - awful. Twilight's editing was atrocious. New Moon was FANTASTIC, why not bring THAT editor in!!!!! Bringing Twilight's editor back in is a SERIOUSLY scary proposition. Had the editing been done much better, cleaner and with more flow between scenes, Twilight would have been MUCH better because the actors were decent and the story was all there for them to work from to begin with! As it stands, Twilight was a a let-down and it should not have been. Added scenes NOT EVEN IN THE BOOK, scenes switched around at the whim of the director AND editor's discretion...all of which were needless and did not follow the book at all.

Bad, bad idea. Is this the same person that decided to add in "butt crack Santa" & leave out the conversation between Bella & Charlie about the Cullens? Here's hoping this editor has picked up on the negative feedback & is going to try a little harder this time around.

Makes me wonder what they mean by "needs a stronger edt"...but I'm still crossing my fingers that the film is as good as New Moon was. Kinda scary, though. I think Butt-crack Santa says it all

Uh, ok apparently the movie is too much on the horror side of things. Slade's editor did both his horror movies. Clearly Summit knows its fan base and put a stop to what's going on with the film. This is exactly what Twilight fans feared (excuse the pun). That there would not be enough emphasis on the storyline between Edward, Bella & Jacob. I bet money that the emphasis was placed more so on the newborns. Trust me, this is exactly what happened. The romance got lost in the gore. This is my favorite book, they better not screw it up.

I personally thought Twilight was 1000 times better than New Moon. I saw Twilight 11 times in the theater and New Moon once. What was missing from New Moon? The MUSIC! They really let us down when they scrapped all the beautiful music established in Twilight. And hello, why didn't they encourage Rob to record some new songs? Such a loss. I am ecstatic that they are bringing Nancy Richardson back. Maybe they won't drop the ball this time.

Wow, they filmed Eclipse straight after New Moon and still only editing it? I thought the finished product would be smoking away there rearing to go! The Eclipse stills look good so far though. I liked Twi better than NM. It made more sense as a story. the music was great. more indie feel to it which was the best part about it and will make it more a cult favourite.

I dont really understand the need to edit !! why cant u just give us the whole book's story !! why even cut short !!! and if the cutting part is so important then cut the whole of jacob !! BUT DONT U DARE TOUCH EDWARD'S PART !!!!!!!!

I agree with Twinut. I too think that maybe the core love story has been smothered with too much horror. Especially when they were adding more Edward earlier. I did like Twilight but the lighting and makeup throughout the movie becomes more horrendous every time I watch it. Not editing's fault. I loved New Moon. Although the music in Twilight was great, I really loved the music and also the soundtrack for New Moon. Maybe this has something to do with me not being a younger fan. And of course Summit is going to say this film is still very good to decrease fan's fears.

STOP THE CUTTING !!!!!!!!! The first film was cut to pieces and cheated everyone that watched it. Espeicialy the ones who had not read the books. Let no one who worked on the first film anywhere near it. Twiexpert did you even read the books. Even New moon script was off from the books. At this point Summit knows that people will go to see it even if they rip it to shreds. They are taking advantage of the fans. From what I understand Slade fololowed the book more so then the other two and now they what to cut it. If you have been following his weekly reports you would know this. Dont edit this to cut time. You will lose the essence.

Yeah uh not too sure how I feel about this. I really didn't like anything about Twilight. The music, makeup, acting, and the actors lines were quite dissapointing. New Moon was put together 1000 times better than Twilight. Bringing someone back from Twilight makes me quite nervous. But hey I guess they must know what they're doing.

In response to some comments below...
You can't NOT cut and edit. Some scenes just don't fit into the flow of the story (unfortunately in Twilight some of those were left in while others that would have been more appropriate were left out). The point is to make a good movie.
As far as Slade and the horror/newborn stuff...I really REALLY liked Hard Candy. Impressive. I kind of wish Summit were giving Slade more slack (firing his editor this far along in the process seems sketchy), although the report I read on another sight quoted Summit as saying that all of Slade's raw footage is "really good". Which I don't doubt. Hopefully they aren't ruining it in the editing room. And hopefully they aren't adding "more EDWARD" to the detriment of the storyline. I'm interested to see what the trailer will be like...

I agree with twinut, but I am not a fan of Slade and have been concerned about the story line getting lost in the horror this whole time. It does seem a little late to be replacing an editor. It sounds like at least Summit is trying to make it what the fans want (although that is speculation). I am just crossing my fingers. The bottom line is the story is about love and relationship not about vampire horror.

Uh-oh. This one has me nervous, for all the reasons mentioned by everyone, particularly twinut. I've really been trying to give Mr. Slade the benefit of the doubt, but this, combined with his more EDWARD comment (come on, anyone who knows and appreciates the fanbase and what makes the books so popular understands there's never enough Edward!)has me concerned. David Slade is a gifted director, but his genre seems to be horror...here's hoping Summit didn't make a mistake! We'll know in 118 days!

Add to that the fact Muse isn't going to be on the Eclipse soundtrack, and the best book of the series may be the second most disappointing movie in series!

WHY OH WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD didn't they just keep Chris Weitz?? This movie is coming out in about three months and it looks like they are scrambling. Not good.

Sorry! I usually don't comment but don't blame the director! This is a very intense book that' SM wrote and Summit want's to change? They want to cut alot of the scenes to promote Riley's and Victory's love affair? Excuse me but where did you read that. It's only to promote Howard's other movie,so said,so done!
