Mitch Hansen Band: profile of a 'New Moon' soundtrack hopeful

Mitch Hansen has “been playing guitar and writing music since [he] was 12 years old.”

His band, the Mitch Hansen Band, has been featured by many Twilight fan sites (such as Twilight Lexicon, Twilight MOMs, Twilight Teens, Twilight Series Theories, Twilighters Anonymous, and others) as a favorite amongst The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack hopefuls. Having reached over a million plays on MySpace within the span of two years, it is clear that the Mitch Hansen Band is one to watch for on billboard charts (which they have already reached on Tunecore’s top 20 in 2008 – alongside artists such as Jay-Z).

The Mitch Hansen Band, within which Hansen is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, includes his friends, Brent Cook (lead guitarist and back-up vocalist), “Gunn” (drummer), and Doug Epstein (bassist).

Hansen recently discussed his aspirations with us.

“I am a 28-year-old husband/father who manages a retail store for a living,” Hansen says. “I happened upon the Twilight series right after Eclipse was released, and I read all three books in a week.”

Given his long-term love for music and songwriting, Hansen says it was his wife, in fact, who gave him the idea to write a song about Twilight.

Says Hansen, she “suggested I write a song about Bella and Edward, so I did.”

The reception, Hansen says, was instant. After posting the song on his MySpace site “for fun, . . . people responded enthusiastically. Encouraged by the response, I released a self-produced acoustic album of Twilight-inspired songs called Twilight Hour in December of 2007.”

After that, says Hansen, his band really started coming together.

“I started building a full band and playing shows in 2008 and got a record deal later that year. Harper Music LLC, based in Las Vegas (our record label), released our second CD “Endless Day” which is a collection of nine of the best songs from our previous release.”

The album’s producer, says Hansen, is John Hancock, who is also one of American Idol star David Archuleta’s producers, “so the album is top-notch quality wise.”

Hansen’s interest in becoming a part of The Twilight Saga: New Moon’s soundtrack was “inspired specifically by New Moon’s story.”

They have composed two songs that would “compliment the film perfectly." The two songs are “By You” and “A World Without You.”

“By You,” says Hansen, “is a moderate tempo, angst-laden rock song from Bella’s perspective about her feelings of abandonment and subsequent happiness during the story.” Continues Hansen, “given its emotional feel, I think it would be perfect for the cliff-diving scene or during any scene that conveys Bella’s feelings of emptiness.”

The other, “A World Without You,” says he, “is from Edward’s point of view and has more of a Brit-rock feel to it with strings and clean guitars. In my opinion, it would be a good song for the scene when Bella and Edward are reunited.”

Alongside being loved by the Twilight fan community, the Mitch Hansen Band has also been a regular at fan events as well. Earlier this summer, they played a concert at the Summer School in Forks: A Twilight Symposium event, and they also played at the TwiTour 2009 Twilight Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. New Moon and Nurse Jackie star Peter Facinelli encountered them and “Play[ed] a mean guitar” (Mitch’s) at the event. MHB is also slated to play in this month’s TwiCon 2009.

You can listen to Mitch Hansen Band’s music via their blog, MySpace, Twilight Hour YouTube page, or purchase it through Amazon.

The band sounds nice - clear and crisp with nice voices, but in my opinion they aren't quite the caliber of Muse, Paramore, Blue Foundation, and Robert Pattinson. Maybe it's becasue I am so used to hearing these others. My Twilight CD is one of my all time favorites! I am looking forward to New Moon in November, but am especially excited about Eclipse (June 2010) and Breaking Dawn!

The first time I heard these songs I was shocked at how accurately he used the emotion form the movie and incorporated them into music. It seems like nearly everyone who hears these songs loves them instantly! It would be a mistake to not include them on the New Moon soundtrack. Thanks for the incredible music, guys!

My entire family loves the Endless Day CD. "By You" is a perfect fit for, and would be a pleasant addition to the New Moon movie. It would be an asset to the New Moon soundtrack. Way to go guys, keep up the good work!

It would be an absolute crime not to put Mitch Hansen on the New Moon Soundtrack. Mitch Hansen is able to capture and convey the deepest and sadest moments in the book. He really makes you understand exactly what Bella is feeling. Every song compliments the series perfectly.

I don't think Mitch's sound (on either album) works with my vision of the soundtrack for New Moon.

I think "By You" is perfect for the "New Moon" soundtrack. It captures Bella's anguish so well and the chorus especially would work with so many scenes.

I would love to hear Mitch Hansen Band on the soundtrack. They've put so much time and effort into their music and it would be a shame if the soundtrack didn't have them on it!

I LOVE The Mitch Hansen Band!! My friend got me listening to his songs and I fell in love with them instantly. Every week I would have a new favorite song because I couldn't pick out of all his songs. All of their music is amazing! Their lyrics make sense and are amazingly written! The music is the kind of music I listen to, but its about something I love, the Twilight Saga! If Mitch's Music was on the New Mooon Soundtrack, it would make the entire movie sooo much better!
    Good luck Mitch!!!!! :)

The Mitch Hansen Band is great! Both the Twilight Hour and Endless Day cds have perfectly captured the feelings and experiences found in the Twilight Saga novels. Have a great feel and sound and would be wonderful to listen to even if not playing Twilight themed music. They're an awesome group of musicians that I can't wait to see leave their mark on the music world. I really hope and pray they make it on the New Moon soundtrack, they deserve it!

OMG! This is the worst music I have EVER heard. I seriously can't believe anyone would think this is good. Do people think it's good just because it's about Twilight??? I gave it a chance. The lyrics are horrid, corny and just plain stupid. The guitar is good though. But that's about it. Sorry, I really have to disagree.
