Marcus Foster, co-author of the Twilight soundtrack's "Let Me Sign" (with Bobby Long) and singer and songwriter behind the lovely "I Don't Mind" and "Tumble Down" (which he said before he always enjoyed playing), has been keeping busy over in the U.K. with plans, according to his Twitter page, "as soon as I get my Visa sorted . . . to play lots more shows in America including L[.A.] and New York."
The first announced of said appearances (as of right now) will take place at the TwiCon festival in Dallas, Texas at the end of the summer.
Marcus Foster was kind enough to (again) grant me an exclusive interview, with updates and insights galore for us all to enjoy.
Before May, Foster was, according to some, a rather "mysterious" person, but when he started using Twitter, the man became a mystery no more. I asked Foster if there was any particular reason why we have been hearing from him more often. Said he, "Have you? I never really know what's going on. I guess more people are, hopefully, interested in what I do, and I'm booking more shows, and more people seem to be coming. It still seems quite slow. I'm doing it all myself, so it's taking a bit longer than my friends, I'm really disorganized."
As a bit of a Renaissance man, that so-called "disorganization" may, in part, be due to the fact that Foster wears many coats. Not only is he a singer and songwriter, but he is also a student and sculptor. I asked him if he could tell us a little bit more about his sculpting. Said Foster, "I'm doing my M.A. at the moment. I've got a show coming up, and, so far, I've made lots of sign posts and a large steel sculpture for the wall that looks a bit like an elongated domed awning. I might do some wall paintings - my work at the moment kind of addresses the ideas around place and meeting points." It is surely, if by the hands of Marcus Foster, a thing of beauty. Foster said that he will finish his school work "this time next year." (Unlike his friend Bobby Long, touring in the U.S. might not be something Foster can write up to field studies.)
Despite his busied schedule, though, Foster has by no means been neglecting his singing and songwriting. Recently "tweeting" about a new song he wrote in France (and his desire to play it at his show two nights ago), I asked Foster whether he ever did end up playing it. Said he, he did in fact, "and it went well. My friends seem to like it... it's like releasing a child or an animal into the world, I still don't know what to call it yet or if it will survive out in the open." Meanwhile, Foster is also working on getting an EP released on iTunes at the moment as well. Said he, "I hope to get a release date soon, sorry for the wait."
In the meantime, Foster is also preparing himself for his trip to the United States. About planning the tour, Foster said, "I just hope there will be a good crowd, I worry sometimes if I book shows in America not many people will show up. I always get nervous before shows but once I'm up there I'm fine." Otherwise, he said that "I'm excited about playing everywhere really."
Promising to link up with Bobby Long during his tour of the United States, Foster said that it will be manager extraordinaire Phil Taylor to give him a hand. Said he to a question of which shows he'll be joining Long on, "Bobby's manager is booking the shows, and he will book lots of shows for me when I sort out my Visa, so I'm not entirely sure yet."
Meanwhile, Foster says that there "are always songs in the works." Continued Foster, "some have been stuck in my head like dead birds, but I'm currently working on two in the studio that sound good, and I still have loads I need to record. I wrote quite a few songs with Rob so I'm hopefully going to record some with him and possibly do some shows with him when I go to New York."
Speaking of Rob, Foster's song "Let Me Sign," which was sung by Pattinson but co-authored by Foster and Bobby Long was a big hit in the U.S., yet Bobby Long said that couldn't play it today if someone asked him to. I asked Foster whether he could, and he said "I have some recordings of me Bobby and Rob singing that song on New Years Day really drunk. They sound really good, I will probably only do that again if it was with them."
Finally, I asked Foster whether he had changed his mind about which word he would choose to describe himself with if he only got to use one (last time I interviewed him, he choose "indecisive"), and he said "thirsty." Was that a Twiight pun, there? Hmm...
In closing, said Foster about his plans to tour in the United States, "I can't wait. When I book my shows in L.A. and New York and some other places, please come along. Bring your bells, I'll bring mine."
With the tour dates and locations undecided at this point, here is your chance to put in your two cents. Comment below and let us know where you think Marcus Foster should stop on his tour this August (including which shows with Bobby Long you'd like to see him link up on)!

Marcus,
Why don't you come to Atlanta with Bobby? He's booked at the Earl. We'd love to have you! Or, you could play Birmingham, Alabama (please, please=) I'm still disappointed Bobby dropped Alabama off his list! I have some venue information for B'ham if you need it..It's a great city and there are some really cool places to play that you'd have no trouble selling out. Regardless of where you play, if you play close enough to me...I'll be there =)Wishing you all the best, Shelley
I'm so excited that Marcus will be in NYC!! Can't wait for the tour schedule to finally be settled and announced so that I can add all the NYC shows to my calendar!
LoD will definitely be representing at all the shows, especially anything he decides to do in NYC!!
Another great interview Amanda! Marcus need not worry, his shows will all sell out. I'm certain of it. I already have my tickets to Nashville and I'm waiting for more as his schedule firms up...my flight to Austin is already booked. Marcus is not the only one who is "thirsty," The States is anxiously awaiting for him to arrive to quench our thirst for the amazing artist he is. Thanks again for writing this wonderful article!
Finally an interview with Marcus!!!!
I completely agree with you Hope--August 18th and 19th in Nashville!!
Great interview, there is not much out there on Marcus and it was good to hear from him.
He should really go to Bobby's Portland Oregon shown that would be amazing
Marcus is going to be at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville on August 5th. Tickets are on sale now at the venue's site. :-)
Marcus you never fail to surprise me. I'm glad you are doing some sculptures. So excited for that. I hope you take pictures so that we can all see your work. You are a fascinating person. I like your perspective and you always have a different take on things. You are so unique. Personally, I hope you do shows in ALL the same places as Bobby Long because you will be traveling with your friend and you will have even MORE fun hanging out with new and old mates on this trip. It's hard, becau
Marcus, luv, have no fear that people won't come to your shows. We've been anxiously awaiting your arrival! I've already made travel arrangements to see you in Texas, Colorado, and Tennessee! However, I'm ditching my husband for those shows and going with the girls so I would LOVE for you to add St. Louis, MO to your list so he can see your show, too! All the best. x
Thanks so much Amanda for another great interview with one our guys! We love hearing from them as always.
I cannot wait for Marcus to make his way to the states.
And he really shouldn't worry about not filling venues... the LOD will do him right and promote the hell out of him.
I'm gonna use smoke signals .....LOL....sorry, I got cut off. LOL
I was saying it's hard because some people can't afford to go in two directions.....so by you guys going to some of the same locations, everybody wins and more joy is shared amongst us. I said more, but all I really wanted to say was this is your time, get the dead birds out of your head and into musical notes and share them. You can go as far as you want to go......we are all cheering for you and love your work. :)
love,
Don't worry Marcus. If you book it we will come! 7/31(dallas)can't get here fast enough. I am very anal but I am not creative at all. So it's ok be disorganized.

Toronto soo needs a litle Marcus fix. Pretty please?? So great to hear about all of his other talents - very impressive!
Thanks for another great interview Amanda!!
I agree with doc...come to Atlanta with Bobby Marcus! I already have tickets to that one. Although if you come close enough to NC I will be there. :)
Hey Marcus, We would love to see you and Bobby in Phoenix! Please put us on your tour and I promise you it will sell out. :)
Thank you for the interview!
Your articles always make my day, and I especially love new news from Marcus.
They NEED to play the Southgate House in Newport, Ky!
Thanks for the interview Amanda - its nice to see some focus on Rob's VERY talented friends. Tell him we'd love to see him in Tallahassee - a small venue, I know, but Floyd's Music Store is very popular - one of the launching pads for Creed back in the day, and even Kenny Chesney has played. Point is - they book a diverse selection of musicians and we'll definately show the love to the BritPack!
I vote......Atlanta!!!!!!
Hey Marcus, please come to Philadelphia, PA or surrounding area. You'll definitely sell out! But New York is also cool, only 2 hours away!
Come to Portland, OR - There are some really great venues to play here - they (we) would love you here!!
Great to hear that he is writing with Rob. Can't wait to hear all Marcus' new songs. Is there a chance he might sing with Rob in the future???
Marcus, you should play in Chicago with Bobby at the end of August! It's a huge city with tons of people interested! I've seen you play live in London 3 times, now I'd like to see you in America!
Marcus is absolutely amazing! I am glad that he is not so much of a mystery anymore and I am so looking forward to his US tour!
Great article, Amanda! Along with the LoD, you do a wonderful job supporting and promoting the Brit Pack.
I'm soo looking forward to Marcus's U.S. tour, and am already counting the days to Dallas and Austin. I vote for Los Angeles shows, and I'd love to be able to travel to New York to see him there, too. I'd also be happy if he teamed up with Bobby at other points along the southern leg of the tour - Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa.
And Marcus, please know that we love you here,
Great article, love to hear more about Marcus! I have not doubt wherever he books shows people will show up in droves to come see him play! I'm already going to see him in Texas and anxiously awaiting more dates I'll try to make it out to!
I cannot wait to see Marcus in Nashville! No worries about people not showing up. That's why we have the LOD :-)
Thank you for the wonderful article Amanda. Like Lynda said, "Philadelphia loves you." The World Cafe in Phil. is a great venue. Until then, we are looking forward to making the 13 1/2 hour trip to Nashville to see Marcus.
Thanks for doing this interview I absolutely love Marcus' music. He doesn't have to worry about people coming to the shows in the US we will be there w/our bells on.We have been waiting for this show for so long. Thanks again1
I'm stuck halfway between New York & Boston, yet nobody ever comes to the Hartford, CT area. I'd love to see him play!! Perhaps he'll make a stop at some point between the two major cities.
Marcus Marcus Marcus! You have to KNOW we got your back and we will be where ever you are with bells on!! Amanda, thanks again for your constant support of our 3 fav brits!!we will send you an honorary LOD laminate !!! shoot me an email with an address
Phoenix is waiting for Marcus.
St. Louis, MO. would love to have Marcus and bobby!! They have to talk Rob into recording and performing more songs. I have downloaded everything I can find of Rob's, I'm a huge fan of his music. Now that I know that Let Me Sign was a collaboration of Rob, Marcus and Bobby I'm a huge fan of all of them! I will definitely be adding them to my Twitter page and checking out their music!
I second Nadine....Hartford CT would be Awesome but will go to NYC if there is a show there!!!!
