A very recent spotlight article by Billboard Magazine might leave fans of the Twilight series (particularly those interested in the forthcoming soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: New Moon) in a bit of tizzy.
Says Billboard,
Kings of Leon are pondering the release of another single for "Only By Night" -- Followill is thumping for "Notion" -- but will not, as rumored, be contributing anything to the soundtrack for "New Moon," the second film in the "Twilight" series.
It was no ordinary rumor, either.
The speculation that Kings of Leon would appear on the album derived from director Chris Weitz's suggestion that it was one band he was hoping to snag for the album (to join giants like Radiohead and Muse). Kings of Leon, however, has been known to regard soundtracks as not in their best interests. Unfortunately, it seems that KoL is out where the New Moon soundtrack is concerned as well - specifically.

I'm sad that they won't be on the soundtrack. While I respect their decision, I have to say it wasn't really a smart move. The Twilight fans have a way of boosting careers.
Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! I hope this is untrue.
Yes, I agree with "AMS" on this - KOL has to make decisions based on what they believe is best for their career, and I suppose some fans think bands are only popular because of being noticed on a soundtrack (yes, everyone starts somewhere), while other fans like "veteran" Muse and Paramore fans call us that learn about those bands on a soundtrack "not real fans" - which I think is dumb! Most bands just want to be noticed positively and get their career launched. KOL has some great tunes now on this new album, so it's too bad that they won't particpate, because their song "Closer" is the perfect Vampire song for when Edward is wayward and lost denying his feelings for Bella!
Why would the entire cast go to see them if they were not on one of the soundtracks. If not on NM they may possibly be on the Eclipse soundtrack. There is no direct quote from the band and Chris did say he was trying to get them maybe David did.
I'm neither disappointed or relieved this happened. Sure it would be sweet to hear their music accompanied with a storyline such as Twilight but its their choice and I don't think this will affect their careers since they seem to be doing just fine on their own without having to ride on a cultural phenomenon's train.
I don't really care. There are plenty of awesome artists out there. I don't understand why they are such a big deal. They sound like any other good/average band. Not really unique. Have a couple of listenable songs. So, hey, they aren't on the sound track. So what. Just because the Twilight gang goes to one of their concerts doesn't mean we all need to hear them on the soundtrack. They're ok but nothing special. Again, who cares? I'd rather hear Maroon 5 then those guys any day.
Robert Pattinson
Maybe the entire cast went to see them in concert because they like their music and had the night off. I don't think they would care whether the band was on the movie soundtrack or not.
I don't care either way if KOL is on the soundtrack, but if Radiohead dropped out I would be disappointed.
Too bad! I was a fan of theirs before any rumors of them being on the soundtrack started floating around, so I would not have seen it as "selling out." I am 100% with Jeanne from above, though. I am more disappointed that Robert Pattinson won't be on the soundtrack. His music is what made me see him as Robert and not Edward in the first place. Hope all involved reconsider.
While I'm a moderate Twilight fan AND a huge KOL fan, I have to say the guys made a very wise decision. Twilight would have pigeon-holed them and alienated their loyal fan base, which is already beside itself with grief over the fact that their "pocket band" is now semi-popular. While it is a bit hypocritical to begrudge your favorite band success, the point here is that KOL doesn't NEED Twilight. They have proved more than capable of forging their own path and need not hitch themselves to the Twilight wagon.
I disagree with Smart Decision, I don't see how having a song on the "New Moon" soundtrack would have pigeonholed KOL, that would be impossible to do, they are such a kicka** band in their own right. I'm disappointed they aren't going to be on the soundtrack, really.
very disappointed!!!! really hope it isn't true! closer is the perfect perfect song for New Moon! Its like Jacob and or Edward is singing it himself! Also, wanted to mention I think the perfect Muse song is Map of the Problematique - perfect for the Alice/Bella porshe race scene. Its awesome! lyrics fit extremely well! hope they use it! I also like that its not very well known either.
"Fear
And the panic in the air
I want to be free
From desolation and despair
And I feel
Like everything I sow
Is been swept away
Well I refuse to let you go
I can't get it right
Get it right
Since I met you
Loneliness be over
When will this loneliness be over?
Life
Will flash before my eyes
So scattered and lost
I want to touch the other side
And no one
Thinks they are to blame
Why can't we see
When we bleed we bleed the same?
I can't get it right
Get it right
Since I met you
Loneliness be over
When will this Loneliness be over?"
PERFECT!
maroon 5 over Kings....speaking of a band that has songs that all sound the same...
lol at "followill is thumping for Notion" are they not all called followill?
Aw. I was kinda looking forward to seeing them on the soundtrack. It's for the better though. I understand where they're coming from. KOL is amazing and I would have liked to see them on the soundtrack. I'm guessing they wanted to become famous through their music, not from a teen movie soundtrack.
great i hate kings of leon....
i thought because the whole cast went to their concert, it was like a sign they were already on the soundtrack, but i guess if they dont want to be on the soundtrack thats cool i guess, chris will just have to find someone else to give publicity to because you know what happens to careers when your on a twilight soundtrack
WHAT!?!?!?!?!? I WANTED KINGS OF LEON ON THE SOUNDTRACK.
ughhhh, i hope Chris will put Evanescence on there, Amy Lee is incredible
Kings of Leon need to get over themselves!
I'm from Russia, and do not know much English. I do not understand what is written here. From someone you know Russian language? Please explain to me what is written here!
if yous love the twilight saga listen to Manhattan by KoL
its brilliant i think that song could be in any of the movies i think its perfect for them
it might be cos i listened to it alot while reading the saga for the first time but what d you think!?
Well, I am disappointed. I thought their song "Closer" would have fit perfectly. I'm still going to think of New Moon when I hear that song. But I guess I could understand why they wouldn't want to be a part of it. A lot of the music websites I've visited take potshots at the Twilight fans and the music on the soundtrack.
Aw, man. I was hoping KOL would be on the soundtrack. But as long as Radiohead's still on there, I'm perfectly happy.
That is dissapointing! I have loved the Kings of Leon for a while now and when Chris Weitz said he was begging them to be on the soundtrack i just about did a flip!
Fine I didn't know them before and now I never will. Oh well. On the other hand I have been excited to discover Muse, Iron and Wine and Radiohead from soundtrack #1. Downloaded many of their tracks from I-tunes. Reminds me how fun it was to discover new talent from the Grey's Anatomy collection. Bought their music too. Too bad KOL.
