Fans push for 'New Moon' director Chris Weitz to direct 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn'

The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz has certainly made a name for himself in the Twilight fan community. At least, that is the impression one might get from the fantastic buzz that surrounds the snippets of information that have been released about the project (particularly, the two trailer features, the two snippets at Comic Con, and many lovely still frame photographs - some of the best featured in the slideshow below).

Even the actors in New Moon have given unscripted praise for the professionalism and vision that Chris Weitz has offered the set of the films.

Not to mention, he's been a beacon of understanding for Twilight fan expectations - with his constant promises of a faithful translation of Stephenie Meyer's book series, and his subsequent delivery thereof.

That said, there is at least one group of Twilight fans that doesn't want Weitz's involvement with the film franchise to end any time soon. A small facebook group entitled "Chris Weitz Directing Breaking Dawn!" promotes his involvement with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (that is, if and when it comes into official reach).

A petition of sorts, the group is based out of Italy (where portions of New Moon were filmed).

This group is but one of many and the buzz surrounding the idea of Weitz being behind the lens of Breaking Dawn has been abounding for a while. Even Paul Weitz, his brother and colleague, had something to say about the matter.

Catherine Hardwicke, director of Twilight, was also one that some fans thought might should return to direct Breaking Dawn (to effectively bookend the series), but her recent comments at a convention confirm that she isn't planning to direct the project.

So, while Chris Weitz has a pretty hefty film schedule ahead of him, is he the one you want on board for Breaking Dawn? Comment below and let us know!

HELL YES HE SHOULD DIRECT BREAKING DAWN!!! From what we can all see he is doing a FANTASTIC job with new moon and I think he would absolutely be the best one for the job!

I believe if your to make a second, third or fourth movie then all the main characters should always be the same as well as the director for ex. "the mummy" 1st and 2nd movie fantastic but the 3rd bummed out because they changed the main character "the wife & mother" It doesn't work never has never will!!! So don't do it to the twilight saga! Keep all the same people or it'll just be another bad movie on the shelf.

I think He should film breaking dawn, bc from the looks of New moon, it looks really good. Also, i wouldn't even want cathrine hardwick to do it, bc I really thought that twilight could have been done much better and authentic, and with how complicated Breaking dawn will be, If she couldn't master Twilight ( the easiest of the books to make a movie in my opinion) then I don't think she could do the breaking dawn book.

I also agree with Iris to an extent. I think that they should defidently make sure the main characters remain the same.

okay, i can't pretend i liked the first movie; twilight....i dont think the director put a lot of effort into making that film, i understand the book is long, but they could have done so much better than what they did with the movie...i think this new director should remake the first movie...i know they wont, but thats just my opinion. i think new moon is going to be awesome, and im looking forward to it.

DEFINITELY!!! The trailers alone for New Moon are driving me nuts! It's only right that he should direct the final movie of the series...i think he'd really bring the whole saga home! It;s such a great book, he could turn it into a fantastic movie!

I LOVED what he did with The Golden Compass. The movie was exactly like the book but in my opinion, it was even BETTER! I would LOVE to see Chris Weitz direct Breaking Dawn. If his work on New Moon is anything like The Golden Compass, it will blow Catherine Hardwicke's terrible version of Twilight out of the water and I truely hope that he will agree to do Breaking Dawn. With its complex story line he would be great for the job!

I was disappointed in Twilight the movie, I didn't feel that it represented the book very well, the promo images of Edward were crap and I'm sorry but the acting? Horrible! It looks like Weitz has really improved the image of Twilight from the look of the actors to the colour tones in the film itself. I'm really looking forward to this one and praying that the acting has stepped it up a notch. If Weitz lives up to the hype that he's created with NM I definitely want to see him back for BD.

Although I usually like to withold judgement until I have seen a finished product, I have been pretty impressed with the trailers, dialogue from those trailers and stills from New Moon. One of the main reasons for me not to like Twilight the movie was because it strayed so far from the book that it turned into something different altogether. Chris Weitz seems to have captured the fans disappointment from that and has promised to stay true to Stephanie Meyer's books. If all turns out well on November 20th, everyone who loves the books will be signing a petition of sorts to bring Chris Weitz back for Breaking Dawn (both if they make two movies out of it).

Btw-Dumping Rachelle for Bryce is going to be bad for Eclipse - changing major characters throughout movies makes the fans really upset!

I think he should. I have read a few things saying that whoever they have thinking about it is going to change some of the characters and I believe that will ruin it, especially if they change Edward which i read they have thought about it. The same people should have all the same involvement the last movie, the finish it off and make a great series, if anything changes it just wont be the same.

Yes, Deffinitley, Chris should direct Breaking Dawn,
From what I've seen so far for the movie New Moon, I am now one of those people who Cannot wait to see it... With all of the other movies Chris has directed, have been incredible, so on that note.... Yess, Absolutley yes Chris Weitz should direct the twilight saga: "Breaking Dawn!" He should be so proud of himself, for an opportunity like this! If he gets picked to do this film. . Well lets just say that, he will be one lucky guy..

    Thanks :)

Well, so far so good. From what I see I really like, but I'll wait to make a decision after I see New Moon. I didn't like what Catherine Hardwicke did with the first movie, they could have done so much more with it, but, it wasn't that bad.

Yes!!! 100% agree!!! Chris for Breaking Dawn! He seems to have a handle on the most important things, The Book and staying as true to it, and the world the author has created!! We are fans because of the books, stay to the books, stay true to the fans!!! I just don't think I could handle another BAD Twilight movie, that first one was just awful and not very close to the book at all!! Bella and Edward didn't even say "I love you" the meadow was awful the dumb lines "spider monkey" the feel of the whole movie was off!!!!! I also think that Melissa Rosenberg should be replaced !!

From what has been seen New Moon looks fantastic and I would love for him to direct Breaking Dawn. However, I am reserving my judgement as we have yet to see David Slades' work. I do think that Breaking Dawn should be directed by one of the directors of the previous Twilight films though. Too many directors spoil the the film. Cannot wait for New Moon either way!

I like Twilight to an extent there was major flaws, but then I really liked the whole cast and the visuals were beautiful, but it strayed too far from the book and I believe Christ Weitz just from the pictures and trailers has stepped up the movie another ten notches, New Moon has me extremely excited, I will give credit to Twilight though the whole cast had me drawn in, there is something special about all of them, it became my addiction and I went to see the movie the following day, I can only imagine what New Moon will do to me.

From all the trailors and stills ii myself and 100 billion fans can not wait until november because of chris weitz. these books mean alot to pple and love it when they see words come out into action and chris has done more then that! =)

From what I've seen, New Moon looks incredible...November can't get here fast enough...Chris Weitz seemed to have captured the visual I had in my mind reading the book and bringing it to the screen moreso than Catherine Hardwick, but she still did a good job, however, she did do us all a favor by making the movie in the first place...yes, I wish it was closer to the book, but it's already done...I just really hope they make Breaking Dawn into a movie or movies...I love that book, it brings the story to an end, plus that book in general is phenomenal...they can't stop after Eclipse...so as of right now, I'd love to see Chris Weitz bring that to life...and stop changing the characters...I like Bryce Dallas, but once you get a character establisehd, it's not the same when they go and change things up...though I'm sure it'll still be awesome!!!

I really have liked the bit I have seen so far of New Moon, however, I really would like to see the movie in it's entirety before I decide about Chris Weitz as the director. That being said I feel, from what I have seen so far, that Mr. Weitz seems to have taken the Twilight Saga to a more mature level and I like that. I guess I will have to wait until November to make my decision.

yes yes most definitely yes... catherine hardwicke sucked at directing twilight and the movie was hardly tolerable... i still like it cause i'm a faith fan of the book but as far as the prospective of others that have not read the book it was a let down and they didn't understand important issentials... chris needs to take the reins on twilight series period!

Twilight was okay, but I feel as though the director of Twilight didn't quite get the whole aspect behind the series. I know you can't cram all of the details of the book into 1 1/2 hours of film, but I feel like the director left out some important parts from the book. I, like a lot of other fans, thought the movie was okay, but it was the books that made me a fan. I think Chris understands that, he seems to get the fans and know what we want and what we are looking for in the saga. I don't want to judge any of the other directors that are working on the saga and I really can't judge New Moon based on a few clips and pictures, because alot of previews to other movies give you a misinterpretation of the movie. They take the funniest, dramatic, thrilling clips of the movie to make the preview and then when you see the movie it's a big letdown because it didn't add up to the preview. I don't think New Moon is like that and neither is Chris. He knows what the fans want to see.

I think Chris Weitz would be perfect for the part of being the director for Breaking Dawn [If it come's to life, hopefully]. From what I've seen of New Moon with the two trailers that have been released, clips, and movie still's everything look's amazing and so true to the book in the series. I really liked what Catherine Hardwicke did with Twilight but it wasn't as good as I was hoping for but they made it as an independent film and had very little money to work with since the budget was short. I also think that before everyone start's saying who should direct Breaking Dawn we all need to wait and see even if there will be a Breaking Dawn movie.

  • Michelle 2 years ago
    Report Abuse

I don't care who directs Breaking Dawn as long as it isn't Catherine Hardwicke again. Anyone who can take the most pivotal scene in the series (the meadow) and butcher it like she did doesn't deserve to direct another one of the movies. I think she was absolutely horrible as a director and I was extremely disappointed in the movie. She left out so many important scenes and added scenes that weren't even part of the book in the first place. She didn't even come close to showing how clumsy Bella really is and Edward never would have let her anywhere near the top of that tree, let alone climb around it on her own. She would have fallen in minutes. It just seems to me Catherine Hardwicke didn't take the time to get to know the characters' true personalities. I'm hoping the future directors of the saga are able to clean up her mess. My apologies to those of you who thought she did an acceptable job. I just don't see it.
