David Slade explains how 'Bree Tanner' influenced 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse'

By now, you're fully aware of the story behind The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella and how The Twilight Saga: Eclipse screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg was privy to that publication during the filmmaking process (as was actress Jodelle Ferland who portrays the character, among others). What we didn't know, for sure, was how director David Slade handled the information and storyling contained in the novella - until now.

In this video interview with MTV, Slade explains how the book influenced the film.

"A few bits and pieces . . . some location choices . . . One of the things in the Bree Tanner story is that one of the newborn hangouts is very close to the water, so we specifically went after locations near water, the other one is that as you get to know more about vampires in the Bree Tanner story . . . is that they take the dregs of society, they take the not the dregs but the people who won't be missed. They take prostitutes, they take drug addicts, they take people off the streets. You know, so we cast people who looked like that . . . we didn't actually skew the entire to film to fit that. I maintain that that little book would actually make a great film."

The thing I like about Bree Tanner becoming a film (which he mentioned very last) is that quite a bit of detail can make it into the film due to the length of the book. It has the potential to be a really different (more of a horror film) kind of Twilight film that might bring in a very different fan base.
