Yesterday, talk about the possibility of The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz taking on a producer role in American Pie 4 came about, but the possibility that Weitz could still helm The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn lingered on.
That is, until the Gossip Cop confirmed that Chris Weitz will not be coming back for the movie.
"Gossip Cop has received official confirmation from Chris Weitz’s rep that he will not be directing the film(s)."
GC points out that the decision remained with Weitz on this issue.
"Ultimately, it was Weitz’s decision . . . We’re also told Summit is currently looking at top-tier directors to helm the final “Twilight” film(s)."
So, despite the vested fan interest in seeing Chris Weitz reprise his spot behind the Breaking Dawn camera, it appears that he will not.

Sorry to see him go. I'm still concerned about David, especially hearing about the new editing requested by Summit. Now it's a wait and see for the final movie(s).
I do know that "Breaking Dawn" is my least favorite of the series, so if "Eclipse" (my favorite) is not good I probably won't bother with the last part anyway.
I'm very sorry to hear that. I thought that he would do a great job staying true to to book and making it believable. I really liked the detailed emphasis he gave to New Moon. I too am worried about Eclipse with David Slade.
Too bad. I liked him and his approach to New Moon. He stayed as close to the book as possible and I thought he would do a good job with BD.
So, if we can't have Weitz, can we have PETER JACKSON???
Please?? :)
*GASP* THATS TRAGIC!!! If Chris is reading this.. I hope he knows that his talent will be missed. I, for one, am very disappointed. I thought it would have been a great idea to have all three put their creative heads together and make a combined effort to please the fans! SIGH!!
No offense, but I am glad he is not directing it/them. I think he could have done a better job with New Moon, but I still loved it! I would love to get Catherine back for one or both of the BD films!
As long as they get a good director, it's fine. But I AM disappointed Summit's hired a new editor for Eclipse. If it's a small issue, like making sure the film gets a PG rating, fine. But if they want a major re-editing, it must be in pretty bad shape.
Sorry to lose Chris on the project. He was outstanding! And if any of the books had a feel similar to Chris's style its BD!
I remember when the "first look" at Jakes WOlf appeared. I was the only "Wolf Girl" on a site of 1200 Vamp Tramps, they laughed and teased and joked Chris! I knew I KNEW he wouldn't let us down on the wolfs . HE didn't. I don't know enough about David, but am very concerned over reports and the new editor on staff. COntinuinty is really hard switching up directors all the time.
Interesting.
Well, he done great for New Moon and I can't wait for Eclipse. If he can't do the Breaking Dawn film, thats cool. As long as someone qualified is able to do it. Breaking Dawn will require more than technical genius though...someone has to think out of the box and make it memorable.

Hmm...I was hoping that he would, I really liked New Moon...I liked everything about it...I think that his calm and his sense of color and style would have brought a lot to BD...I really like Ms Hardwicke and she was very good for Twilight, she has that whole kinetic thing going on...Mr Slade I am sure, was the perfect choice for Eclipse..I am counting the days..BD will need a director who can combine those three directors for the final story...I loved Peter Jacksons direction of Lovely Bones and thumbs down to the critics who didn't. I think he would be a good choice...
Of the 4 books, New Moon was my least favorite. I didn't expect much out of the movie and I wasn't disappointed. Though admittedly, the wolves were quite impressive. Eclipse was the BEST in the series. A lot happened in Eclipse and hopefully the movie will capture most of it. Whomever directs Breaking Dawn will have their work cut out for them. The final turns the corner in a big way.
Chris would've been great at the helm for BD. New Moon was not my favorite book(mainly b/c Edward was MIA for most of it) but he did a phenomenal job transforming it to screen. He stayed true to the book and gave us some extra icing (which is more than I can say C. Hardwick's version of Twilight too much of the story was left out.) No offense to the Cat Hardwick fans. Peter J would be a good fit his vision of Lovely Bones was artistically beautiful it'll take someone with that kind of sight to get BD done the right way. it'll b a challenge but whomever gets the job i just hope they don't chop up the story.
