Chris Weitz's Collider interview, 'New Moon' to 'come in at around two hours' (video)

Collider had a very interesting interview with The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz at last week's Comic-Con film event in San Diego.

When asked about the run-time for New Moon, Weitz stated,

I think it's gonna come in at around two hours. I mean, it's whatever kind of feels right in terms of the pace of the story. It's not gonna be one of your three and a half hour Return of the King kind of epics, but at the same time we're not going to rush in and rush out. I think it does have sort of an epic feel, and there are going to be these extraordinary locations and beautiful sets and special effects and stuff. It probably won't be terribly longer than the first film.

"To be honest, we really haven't cut very much," he said when asked if there would be deleted scenes on the DVD.

A similar interview video of screenplay writer Melissa Rosenberg is available here.

I'll be happy with anything over 2 hours. I'm happy they're not cutting too much. That means that the Chris was happy with everything he shot and thought it important enough to put in the movie. I just want to see the final product so badly!

I agree with others, as long as it stays true to the book, i dont care how long it is as long as the story gets told. Seeing the deleted scenes from Twilight, i think that they could have been added in and it maybe would be flowed the story better and it probably would have added what 10 more minutes. i am excited too about new moon, cant wait :)

I just sat through the Godfather trilogy for the first time the last 3 nights in a row, with each of those movies clocking in at around 3 hours long. I just kept thinking "they can do this for Breaking Dawn!"
Glad to hear Chris isn't cutting much, I was so irritated watching the extended scenes from Twilight and seeing that Catherine had cut good dialogue to save like 15 seconds (I'm thinking in particular of the scene where Bella & Edward are walking to the Jeep and he's putting the baseball cap on her and he says something about what Charlie's thinking, which was axed).

I agree with all of you especially Dani - when I watched the Twilight deleted scenes, I thought - "Why did they cut that? It made complete sense in the movie!" I guess it comes down to the budget? I sure hope that ALL of the Eclipse and New Moon details stay intact!

I'd be happy with anything over 2 hours, too. My only problem is I read the script -yes it was bad of me, I feel guilty. But I was curious- and I don't feel like there's enough Jacob/wolves. =[ Kind of disappointing and I could be wrong
but can't wait none the less. =]
